Re: 2016 Released List
Surprised with Grandy, Jason must be to free up wages as he performed well as back up. About right overall, look forward to seeing who Cox brings in now

Re: 2016 Released List
Many thanks to the players who have been released.Quite surprised at S Williams being retained as he is very injury prone. However when he has played he is solid and hopefully he can improve his fitness and stay injury free.
Pleased for Elliot, hope he gets a chance next season and as many have said NWA a must if he wants to play for us. Onwards and upwards.

Re: 2016 Released List
Agree with barrowaberdeen's post above.
I really enjoy watching players like Grand: capable yet obviously flawed (lacking pace with lapses in concentration), he compensates the deficiencies with complete commitment. Aerially powerful, vocal and, bar the odd howler, improved since Cox's arrival, I thought he'd be retained. His partnership with Danny Livesey is experienced, intuitive and served us well. He's the kind of character I want in our squad.
Steve Williams: serene and technically sound in the brief appearances he's made, is he physically robust enough - surely a prerequisite for a centre half? More time injured than not and leaving the field unexpectedly and oddly with no obvious cause suggests to me, from afar, not. I stress suggests. Hopefully these injury difficulties are behind him.
Jason Walker will be missed. A legend for his contributions down the years. Still lively, his unorthodox roaming provides a different style of forward to the typical channel runner and his ability, dubious though it may be, to win over referees despite minimal contact has been a valuable source of goals this season.
Injuries have sadly blighted Pilks. I'll remember fondly his Ronaldinho-esque free kick against Gainsborough 2014: far top corner on the angle from 35 yards, it helped turn that early season game around and establish ourselves as league front runners. But mainly the effortless way he could drift past his man when - sadly seen all too rarely - he was fit and firing.
Paddy Lacey is admirable. He'll be an asset for his new club. Tenacious, proud to represent the club, he deserves a good home, perhaps as a regular in the tier below.
Always a little sad in May as changes are made. Good luck to all who have represented us this season - and thanks.

Re: 2016 Released List
Suggested on BBCRC tonight that Paddy Lacey may have a League Two club lined up.
Always enjoyed his commitment; similarly with Jason Walker and Simon Grand. Thanks and good luck to them and others released.
Disagree with rather sniffy comments about ARH; he's worked hard and steadily developed through his time at Barrow.

Who ever it is will have to negotiate with Holkerbird to get him out of her cellar 1st - I bet she's a tough negotiator....Hadrian wrote:Suggested on BBCRC tonight that Paddy Lacey may have a League Two club lined up.

still it would free up a space in the cellar for someone leaving next season.....

Re: 2016 Released List
Glad all of that crap has gone. Not including the young lads of course (never got to see them did we?). I just hope we have proper plans in place for E Newby, there's no doubt his career has stalled.
I'd be absolutely amazed if Lacey starts for a league 2 club. No doubt a club like Morecambe.
Surprised in S Williams, if fit he's a good player but he's never fit is he ? Disappointed in ARH staying. There's not many jobs where you only have to perform for 6 weeks out of the year . . .
All the best to them.

Re: 2016 Released List
Accrington for Paddy? I wonder. They often get Liverpool lads and develop them. Previous managers used to insist there was a lot of interest from above for him so hope so.
As for sniffy comments re ARH, well one person's steady development is another's frustratingly inconsistent record. H's certainly been a lot stronger, maybe he's had more and better training. He has bags of talent but goes missing at difficult points in the season r when he's not 100% IMO . Still, miles better than when he was winking at fans after a 6-0 defeat at home, he's proved many wrong there and to come back from that shows character. Maybe Cox management and Sean Riley's physio can make him the player Ste keeps telling me he is!

Re: 2016 Released List
Professional sport is tough.
Grand has displayed the most excellent of attitudes and has been outstanding for Barrow. His age and lack of pace has done for him. We all ought to revere him.
Lacey has a great attitude too. Just not skilful enough.
Walker no longer centre of attention, but to be revered too though.
Pilkington has always flattered to deceive.
Fofana just a powder puff - glad to see him go tbh.
Ashton still capable of being good.
Mellor has a great left foot, but is a bit of a pudding - no good for the National League unless he becomes athletic.
Parry exceptional.
Dixon the most improved player at the club, but being pushed hard by Howarth and ARH.
A few decent signings (and we all know Cox can spot a player), and we have half a chance of being dangerous next season.

Does he? Always baffles me when people say that about ARH. He has average talent at best, should've been on the released list in my opinion.barrowaberdeen wrote: He has bags of talent
Re: 2016 Released List
Would have agreed two months ago, but since then he's been impressive and I would have handed another year deal. Maybe he's finally turned the corner and will be consistently good? Or maybe he's duped us and will go back to being a waste of a squad number. I think for the wages, it's probably worth the gamble.Kieran wrote:Does he? Re: 2016 Released List
ARH has improved considerably under Cox. Consistent performances have earned him an offer.
"To achieve anything and to get to the Football League, we have to expect to win every game. I've got to get everyone believing that we can, and I will work hard to embed that mentality into the players, the town, the board and whoever else” Ian Evatt.

Re: 2016 Released List
Impressed with him when he came back into the side, time will tell but Cox doesn't seem like kind of manager to allow ARH to go missing after giving him a chance. Maybe that's been the problem, he's been allowed to do it in the past.Moribund wrote:Would have agreed two months ago, but since then he's been impressive and I would have handed another year deal. Re: 2016 Released List
I'd of kept Jase and Grand. But not surprised Cox letting go Jase, on decent money , and Cox never really rated him , super sub most games Thanks for the memory's Jase ! Grand, I thought was really good towards the end , and dangerous in the oppositions box. Cox will bring in a good replacement for both Grand and Jase, so that softens the blow ! Alex Ray, improved just needs too keep giving his all for most games and he's a good CM. Williams if fit quality CB , So is Cox keeping Cowps? All the rest that's going , happy with . Probably sign Tomlinson now . Done a decent job for us , sure he will bang more in when we get some attacking midfielders in . Ins -NWA , Troy Archibald Henville( released CB from Carlisle ?) Ottis Khan, Bogle, and Bostons Southwell , would do for a start! U'd say Cox will have a good squad at the start of the new season, exciting times!

At least it wouldn't be for him to travel from Elaine's cellar.
