Re: Furness Select Game
Won't be bothering with that then.
Good player that mckluskey.
I hope mukendi is better than his brother.
I hope it's not these trialists going for a Costa.

Re: Furness Select Game
Can understand it, no offence to any of the select team but one miss timed challenge could see a new signing out for a good part of the season.

How many players have missed best part of season after this annual fixture in previous seasons?PRR wrote:Can understand it, no offence to any of the select team but one miss timed challenge could see a new signing out for a good part of the season.

Yeah but it's not worth the risk. If you've got players of a lower standard they are more likely to miss time a challenge. What's the point in building a good squad if you're going to lose a player immediately?boyliegladbach wrote:How many players have missed best part of season after this annual fixture in previous seasons?PRR wrote:Can understand it, no offence to any of the select team but one miss timed challenge could see a new signing out for a good part of the season.

Would have been nice to see Walker and Cowperthwaite play for Furness

I am going. It's a nice venue up there and a chance to meet up with folks. A game of football is a game of football. I am not one for only showing up for the big game scenario as witnessed by turning up on a Sunday for games in the park!!!!!!

Could say that about any pre season game though. Any actual teams we play might contain trialists keen to impress so going harder into tackles, or stronger players liable to give ours knocks.PRR wrote:Yeah but it's not worth the risk. Disrespectful to both the fans and the Furness select lads. Not played at Holker St anymore, not containing any Barrow AFC players, what a pointless fixture.

Is Cowps definitely not re-signing for us then? Apologies if this has been announced, I've missed it if it has.HenneysKnee wrote:Would have been nice to see Walker and Cowperthwaite play for Furness

Why,HenneysKnee wrote:Would have been nice to see Walker and Cowperthwaite play for Furness
I thought the furness team is best of locals under a certain age.

Re: Furness Select Game
I can see both sides of the argument here. It's always good to see your new signings in action for the start of the pre-season so a little disappointing from that point of view but, I can also see why Paul Cox would perhaps want protect some of his signings. It's probably also the club taking that next step to becoming a more professional type set-up.
Imagine Ross Hannah or Liam Hughes picking up a knock...or worse! when players like that are bound to be what the team is being built around, I know it can happen in any pre-season game but perhaps Coxy just thought this was a risk too far at this stage.
Perhaps that was the thought behind bringing the players into the town centre before the game to give supporters a chance to still meet them if they wanted to.
Not a big problem to me anyway, I always enjoy the afternoon and if I'm being totally honest, it's more of an opportunity to have a craic with some of the lads, have a drink and watch (bits of) the football.

We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.
