Re: Ground Maintenance Area
Not that I know of Graham, I was there when we were showing one contractor around and there was absolutely no mention of that. I know exactly what you and Cubbins Paratrooper are saying though, it is a very bad spot for wind and rain. I think the trouble would be the cost of going into that, they'd have to do structural tests for the extra stress etc on the steelwork (it'd be a bit like a giant sail) and if that original steelwork wasn't made to take that, which it won't have been, it'd mean upgrading everything connected to it.GTBLUE wrote:Just wondering Ian. Seeing as there is scaffolding erected in the stand, has there been any thought of putting in perspex windbreaks on the ends.
The old ones on the original main stand will have just been thrown up, anything would've got passed whatever "safety" groups were in place at the time, I'll bet no one was even notified anyway.
I'll ask but I don't think that'll been looked into. Remember, the work going on at the moment is (as the plan stands) just making the main stand safe for the coming couple of years....as far as I know.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Re: Ground Maintenance Area
Thanks for the quick reply Ian. I hear what you say about the structual side of things. But that is always going to be the same when any alterations take place. It should'nt be used all the time though, as nothing would get done.spirit of 1990 wrote:Not that I know of Graham, I was there when we were showing one contractor around and there was absolutely no mention of that. Re: Ground Maintenance Area
With regard to this question regarding filling in the ends of the stand, it was intended to do exactly this but because of non payment to the contractor Mike mcKenzie it was not completed, if you look at the stand itself there are holes for draining away rain etc, on the terracing this was left as well and filled in with cement this is why you get flooding on the front 3 so so front rows.

The sad thing is that you have to ask this question!GTBLUE wrote:Just wondering Ian. Seeing as there is scaffolding erected in the stand, has there been any thought of putting in perspex windbreaks on the ends.

What the chuffing hell are you on about. "Sad thing:" It was a perfectly normal question about possible furthur work on the stand and if there was any plans for windbreaks for the fans. Jesus wept, I give up.blue nige wrote:The sad thing is that you have to ask this question!GTBLUE wrote:Just wondering Ian. Thanks for an educated answer as opposed to the one above !!popsider wrote:With regard to this question regarding filling in the ends of the stand, it was intended to do exactly this but because of non payment to the contractor Mike mcKenzie it was not completed, if you look at the stand itself there are holes for draining away rain etc, on the terracing this was left as well and filled in with cement this is why you get flooding on the front 3 so so front rows.

Re: Ground Maintenance Area
Good mornings shift today, with some progress that should please many Barrow supporters.
Exile was busy adding a couple of inches in thickness of yellow paint to the steps on the pop side, that should be dry by the start of the season........2020.
Barrow fan Chris joined in the painting fun by slapping on a coat of white masonry alongside the steps by the pop side turnstiles, that's that area completed now apart from a new centre handrail to be fit in the coming months. Two new handrails left & right and both walls painted
I think Mark Mc was also helping with the painting over there, he then shot off to undercoat the cellar doors and try and remove some various locking devices that have been used over the years, we'll be replacing them with new hasps & locks this week.
Elaine was painting the first aiders dugout along with fitting her favourite pastime in, picking litter. She also kept us watered with a mid-morning brew.
Myself and Mrssenoritta cracked on with the segregation fence (proper work - not painting like everyone else was doing
) I missed Mike Forsyth yesterday so I gave him a call this morning and explained what we wanted to do. After a bit of negotiating we came up with moving the R/H side over to the left of the L/H side (if that makes sense) on the condition that we fabricate a third fence that can be quickly assembled and put back into place where it has been for the last few years, that's as cover in case we expect a larger than normal away support.
More work but hopefully a compromise that suits everyone.
Big Al was smashing something to do with the goalposts and basically making a lot of noise. He also cleared up a load of rubbish that was just thrown around the ground yesterday, bins placed all over but it's obviously easier for people to just drop their rubbish at their feet. Its a shame really because that's two people who could've been doing other things but had to spend a couple of hours each clearing it all up.
All watched over by the gaffer for the morning - IRVJ, who was feeling a little under the weather so he had the captains armband for the day
Mrssenoritta (after nearly lopping my finger off with a fence) came up with a brand new H & S line which could be adopted by companies worldwide "lets chop this off (a length of stud iron) before some [SwearFilter] dies"

Re: Ground Maintenance Area
The perplex inserts to the stand sides, would as a stand user be an excellent project addition as current work is underway. Comfort for the supporters would really be enhanced on cold wet windy days. I do hope serious consideration to implementing is given, if not immediately, in the not to distant future.

Re: Ground Maintenance Area
Was just wondering if that rusty piece of fencing on the popular side adjoined to the gate could be removed and open up the full view of the pitch again, think it was used for segregation when away fans used to have all the hs end
Re: Ground Maintenance Area
I remember talking to someone about this a while ago and they said the problem with putting inserts in to keep the wind off sounds great but apparently they soon get mucky especially with the wind blowing stuff around. Once they get mucky you can't see the match through them. I know the obvious answer is to keep them clean but not sure if that's possible for each match.Wildwolf wrote:The perplex inserts to the stand sides, would as a stand user be an excellent project addition as current work is underway. Re: Ground Maintenance Area
I take your point. Consider, Barrow RLFC have had them in the Willie Horne stand for many years. They do not seem to have a big problem. Also total vision to the corners would not be through the perplex, If cleaning was required, I do not see it being needed after every match. Could it not be incorporated into the clubs window cleaning cycle as and when ? Previously posted, it was intended originally in the design to close off ends to help reduce fans discomfort from wind draughts. I know there are many different types of perplex available now, of course qualified advice would aid selection and installation.

Re: Ground Maintenance Area
I've spoken with Mike Forsyth about this (well, we're on a roll aren't we?) and he's going to have a think about if it's still necessary. Of course, if it can come down we'll be looking for a bit of help shifting it.......barrow-mike......barrow-mike wrote:Was just wondering if that rusty piece of fencing on the popular side adjoined to the gate could be removed and open up the full view of the pitch again, think it was used for segregation when away fans used to have all the hs end

Re: Ground Maintenance Area
Yeah the mesh grille serves no purpose at that height other that put rust marks on the wall below.... The wall sufficient height for segregation anyway..... Just need the grille off
