Did they get all they want with the player's lounge though? I spoke to some players last season and they asked what it was all about. As they agreed they are non league, not Premiership footballers. Last season I was no nearer recognising some of the players at the end of the season as I was at the beginning. It is there mainly for their families and their kids. Where can the kids go I was asked by someone (not a player I might add). At home where they belong. HS is their place of work and we are their customers and how many jobs allow a wife/partner and their children to go to work with them? Players see more of their families with the hours they work during the week than any other profession I would say.
I have categorically told PCO (Paul Casson Owner) I will not do any voluntary work in that area.

PS I did pop in there to speak to someone the other week and there was an elderly couple sat at a table on their own and I am sure they would have got some conversation in the main bar from some fans. Families have always been made welcome and become friends over the season.

I think you might get a few different responses with the players we have this season Elaine. Last season we had more players of a non league background than this season, with many coming from the football league.

It may be there mainly for the families and kids but this season, how many players have you seen in the bar interacting with the fans? Outside of the two men of the matches so far, I have only seen one, Liam Hughes I think it was, who was likely getting a lift home from Jordan Williams and was stood awkwardly next to him whilst he got his award!

I agree with you that families have always been made welcome, and so they should. But I personally can't see that happening this season because we won't meet any! Well maybe you will because you meet everybody!

A few players were in bar after aldershot game chatting to fans.
Tuesday nights they are always going to get away quickly.

It was a bad experience all round at The Crabble on Saturday afternoon and contrasted sharply with the run-up to the game where we had been enjoying the local hostelries and our optimism was increasing with every pint.

At the ground our ‘hosts’ treated us like (insert your own swear filter word here). The so-called response team were looking for trouble, trying to provoke our fans and give them any excuse to throw people out.

On a lighter note, after the long hike up the hill and the walk through the crystal maze (thanks to Darren for that one) to get to our cage we were in need of some refreshment. The ‘Snack Shack’ staff asked me whether there were going to be many of us because they’d thought we were from somewhere in London and had only realised that we are from somewhere near Scotland. Let’s just say that this was one of their more insightful moments of the day.

I’m sure all this jaundiced my view of the on-field activities. But it’s true to say that there wasn’t much happening on the field to distract us from the off-field misery. I’ve frequently applauded the team off the pitch after a defeat and will do so again in future. On Saturday I didn’t because I didn’t think they’d earned my appreciation. Paul Cox coming over and asking us what else did we expect was not what we wanted to hear right at that moment.

Maybe the team had had a similar experience from their hosts and didn’t want to hear the reaction from the fans either.

I do believe Paul Cox has the right credentials and experience to take us forward. I’m certainly not advocating a change of management. Time to move on, perhaps a little wiser, certainly wary of repeating the trip to The Crabble.

At the close of last season I said Parry had grown into a quietly tremendous player over the weeks and months and that he would be essential for coming seasons. He doesn't get half the credit he deserves, and shielding the defence is precisely what he does. He'd be my first name on the sheet every week. I don't understand why he isn't starting!

Totally agree. He was superb at the end of the season and I can't believe a certain midfielder gets the nod instead of him....

If this "certain midfielder" is the one I think you're talking about, he won't be getting the nod instead of Parry - he's a completely different animal, not on the pitch for shielding the defence specifically - more for his ability to break quick with the ball/tigerish tackling etc etc.
It's all about finding the right balance - I agree, I'd have Parry starting as well, probably at the expense of Turnbull .Not really impressed me at all, maybe he's still carrying an injury from pre-season ??

Another total Parry fan here.
He reads the game exceptionally well, and plays better than anyone without the ball.
The problem is - where do you play him?
We aren't really set up for his style of play patrolling in front of the back four. We are currently definitely 2 banks of 4.
I'm not the manager, but maybe 4-5-1 would do it. Back 4 picks itself. Meikle and Williams wide, Parry in front of the defence, with Hughes and Turnbull doing the angry bits.

Technology isn't my subject tried to put up the stats for the last 18 games of last season after parrys inclusion ( which is on the Torquay v barrow thread) whilst I know it wasn't all down to him they are pretty good stats . Food for thought!!

I accept that this season, rather than rushing to complete a squad before the season has started, we have begun with an incomplete squad that may not be the finished article.

The result often affects a spectator's view of a game and one can understand that this is accentuated in defeat when lengthy journeys and large expense are involved. I briefly saw the Non-League Paper match report on Tuesday - written, one would guess, by their Dover correspondent. Unfortunately I no longer have access to it to quote them, but their rating of players, from memory, was similar for both teams. Perhaps there's a press box conspiracy...

I hoped, if we were going to be seriously challenging the playoffs, we'd be three points better off right now (1 at Dover and 2 more from Torquay). That would have been a really good start. As it is, decent start with lots of room for improvement. I would have also hoped we'd have ran Tranmere a lot closer even if it ended in defeat.
