Trouble after the game
Re: Trouble after the game
After a really good afternoon for Barrow AFC this really does take the shine off it.
Its all very well to write it off as 'a few idiots' or a 'one off' but the painful truth is that this IS NOT an isolated case. Far too often people are doing this kind of shit in and around Holker Street and at our away games - hence the large police presence today.
What the answer is I dont know but burying our heads in the sand is not the right course of action.
Fans up and down the country will avoid coming to visit Holker street for fear of getting hurt and that genuinly upsets me as a long standing Barrow fan.
My thoughts go out to all the York fans affected today in what must have been a very frightening attack

Yes it's not an isolated case. But it doesn't happen often for away games like you say? They only go to one away game a decade. Little ones like borehamwood aren't cool enoughblooberd wrote:After a really good afternoon for Barrow AFC this really does take the shine off it.

Re: Trouble after the game
just got home from work to be told of this!! Should be a day for all associated with Barrow AFC to be proud of but a few idiots bring shame on our club.
Again a very small minority spoil it for the majority, as Dave said if it were like minded yobs wanting to knock lumps out of each other then let them get on with it as they might knock some sense into each other.
But this is a totally senseless act carried out by cowards and has no place anywhere!
Can only sincerely apologise to the York supporters and hope those injured and upset make a speedy recovery and are not put off travelling to football by today's sorry event.

Re: Trouble after the game
To be fair, yes I do accept that this type of violence does not happen at our away games, particularly at the less glamourous ones, but that said we do still have a section of idiots who travel to the higher profile away days and paint our club in a bad light and these are the games that catch the attention of media and police alike.Bluebird_john wrote:Yes it's not an isolated case. My initial post may have been a bit of a knee jerk reaction but I had only just heard about it and it and I was [SwearFilter] off.

Plea to Paul Casson and the whole Board of Directors:
I realise that the culprits (if caught) will be dealt with by the Criminal Justice System (the usual tickle on the wrist to leave them gurgling and giggling???) and I do not know what the limits of your powers are in terms of involvement. But whatever those limits are please push for the absolute MAXIMUM in terms of punishment for these individuals. Nothing soft please . . . not a one year ban from entering HS, not a ten year ban from entering HS, only a ban for life will do. If you can bring any influence to bear in terms of naming and shaming them please push for this to the MAXIMUM (no going soft if they are less than 16 or whatever). Barrow AFC need to press to the limits of their powers in terms of involvement with every aspect of the repercussions for those found to be involved.
Thank you.

Wow I guess you're so so very proud of your little selves.
The effort put in by the current owners and all associated with making this club happen for the town and it's true supporters is tarnished by a maronic minority that have chosen to attack innocent people who have supported their team by travelling over to our town.
You are not worth any further comment other than to say shit on my shoe is a more pleasurable experience.
To the York directors, team and supporters, I like 99.9% of true Football and Barrow AFC supporters am mortified by the actions of these individuals. We are a decent set of people who are just passionate (like York and all other teams supporters) about our football team.
I personally would leave the culprits with a high pitched voice for life if I could get my hands on them, but alas that would make me as bad as them. I wouldn't lower myself.
To all you York people and fans here's to hoping and praying that your injured fans are okay. I wish you well.
Last week I went to Lincoln to support my team Barrow AFC, out of the ground after a great win the defeated supporters were nothing but gracious about our teams success. This was the main topic in our car on the journey home.
To the morons today who decided to attack the bus or buses on their way home you are pond life.
I know in this close knit town your names will bubble to the top. Your life has now changed forever and you can't even put that into perspective cos you did it for a laugh with your mates!

Re: Trouble after the game
It's happening outside of the ground - nothing to stop these kids turning up even with bans - maybe instead of stood watching the game with no trouble the police need to be ourside the ground at the end of these games or even before the end
I worry that this hurts the club and the genuine fans who travel
Be good if the club could issue a statement
Best wishes to those caught up in this hope it doesn't put anyone off travelling in the future

Re: Trouble after the game
My understanding is this didn't happen outside the ground or even near it but along Park Rd near to or on the by-pass. The police would have seen the fans onto the coach and away .I don't know why the police always end up getting the blame for everything. If they take action they are in the wrong and now they are in the wrong 'cos this has happened.
The only way to safeguard away fans any further is to provide a police escort until they are away from the town. The first season, when we won promotion last time, we were given police escorts away from grounds on a regular basis. The Oxford game in particular was memorable---wrong side of the road, through red traffic lights and cutting across roundabouts at break neck speeds. If we have to do this then the cost will probably be invoiced to the club. Unnecessary expense but vital to stop this happening again.
It must have been terrifying being on those buses and attacked like that with nowhere to run to. I hope there are no serious injuries and they all get home to their families.
Those who were at Atherstone will know how they will be feeling right now.
They are dragging our club through the mud and they have to be stopped.

Re: Trouble after the game
When I left the ground there was a group of chavvy kids hanging about on the bridge by the traffic lights now I'm not saying they are involved in this incident but why were they hanging around watching? They were kids and think they're so cool but believe me you're not you're just knobheads
everyone is entitled to their opinion, deal with it

Re: Trouble after the game
Also saw the group of kids definetly looked sus but if incident occurred park road area as mentioned in another post may not be involved. Not everyone from York will read this forum do would be nice if Mr Casson or a board representative wrote to their club on our behalf with the regret and apologies of all our supporters and requested this be printed in the appropriate York home programme. We should be celebrating a great result on the field but feels a bit flat now after these idiots have shamed us.We had bags searched entering ground (3 pensioners) pity the security checks of people outside wasn't as diligent.

Re: Trouble after the game
I was at the match and left elated with the result and performance.
Now I feel deflated because of the serious attack.
It seems to me 3 things should happen.
1. A club statement issuing an apology to York, and emphasising a no tolerance strategy for troublemakers in future. A life ban will be a consequence for misbehaviour.
2. The criminal justice system to deal with the offenders in a way which will act as a noticeable deterrent. A swingeing sentence and the maximum football banning order available.
3. The police to adopt a realistic strategy which is designed to prevent any repetition. Proper effective policing before, during and after the match which reflects the need to stop a minority spoiling it for everyone else.

Ask on local Facebook pages if anyone travelling around the area concerned to check there dashboard cameras.Might just have the people in the area at the time on video.
