As a Supporter of BARROW AFC for 65+ years I am appalled and apologise to these good away supporters for the actions of a minority. Do not think that this is the norm at HS.
They weren't good BEFORE the game. I was receiving texts last night from friends asking if there had been trouble at the match? Apparently groups of York fans were causing trouble in the town centre pubs before the game and goading Barrovians - many of whom weren't even football fans.

I don't agree with stoning coaches containing women and kids.
I also don't agree with idiots coming to our town and causing trouble with the locals.

I feel sorry for the injured people on those coaches and hope there is no long term health injuries - either physical or psychological. However, I think part of the blame should be directed to those York City 'Fans' who came to Barrow intent on causing trouble. The same thing happened last time they visited...
I would just like to ask, was anybody on this forum aware of any trouble either in town or elsewhere involving York City supporters before the game?

But thanks for your interest.
Can I ask you why?

I can't remember any other visiting team's coaches being attacked this season...
I'll tell you why the police should have been much tougher over the last few weeks and these clowns think they can do what they want,
As a club/police we certainly have to have a rethink about handling away fans.
That means making sure they leave the area safely, also escorting them out of the ground (they often walk straight through home fans) it only takes one of these clowns to use a knife ( our apprentices say quite a few young people carry them)god
knows we don't want that,it's going to get dark in a few weeks so some planning needs doing, at the moment it's just a shambles!

Evening folks,

As one of the York fans who was injured yesterday, I just wanted pass on my sincerest thanks to everyone in the town for their care and support after the incident. This includes the passers-by who stopped to help us by the side of the road, all the local police and medical staff, plus the other people about the town afterwards who treated us really well.

I am just a middle aged bloke who has never been into fighting or that side of things as I'm just a normal supporter, like everyone reading this, who goes pretty much every week to watch my team (they haven't won for over a calendar year, they are absolute garbage yesterday again) and nothing like that has ever happen to me before. I was taken to hospital and had to stay there to get some stitches, then a CT scan and be interviewed at length by the police. Managed to get out after 5 hours then onto the replacement bus home. I was told to report to York hospital today, and had another 4 hours of re-stitching and removing the glass (bloody hell, that hurt I must admit). My face is a bit of a mess but my wife probably won't notice the difference.

I think I've been to Holker Street every time we've played across in Barrow for the past decade and was having a chat with a couple of the regular lads in the bar before the game. I've never had a problem coming to Barrow and enjoy the trip. One thing I have to make clear is that I don't blame Barrow AFC or the fans of the club for any of this stuff that's happened, and would have no hestitation coming across to the fixture next season (if there is one). Although I might not sit next to the window next time! You can't blame a whole set of people, or an entire club, for the actions of a small minority of people and bear no change of feelings towards Barrow at all in terms of a good football day out. I'm certainly not going to make a song and dance about it anyway.

All the best for the rest of the season, and thanks again for the support we were shown by local people as it made the situation a lot better.

Cheers,

Phil, York City.

Thanks Phil - that’s very generous of you and I hope you will make a speedy recovery from your injuries. I’m an average bloke as well and I’m hearing today that there were all sorts of pre arranged silliness planned apparently by Barrow and York wannabes with one group staying in a pub a mile from the ground and deciding to ambush your coach when their adversaries failed to show.

That might be bull and it doesn’t really matter right now; what does matter is that you’re okay and being very good natured about your experience. I’ve had the odd scrape myself over the years and it’s not very pleasant when you just want to have a few pints and cheer on your team. Good on yer mate and best of luck for the rest of the season.
We will foller the soccer, over land and sea...

I hope some of the tosser's who caused all this yesterday read them two posts off the two York supporters, that's what being a proper football supporter is all about......not acting like [SwearFilter] idiots who think it's acceptable to try and hurt people who have just come to watch a football match.

Your parents must be extremely proud that you've turned out so well....
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Don't like the fact we call the culprits "fans" they are clearly not! They are just knuckle dragging neanderthals who have no place in football! We often have a slurp of a beer at the tally ho before a match as it's handy for car parking so making reference to thugs being there is unfair not to just genuine folk like us but also to the establishment! We didn't see anyone cause any bother there.. we didnt get there till 2.15 so can't comment on earlier times? I love banter, I love to scream and shout but this kind of behaviour is not welcome! I just hope that the people hurt realise that the incident really does have nothing to do with the club and real fans, I hope that they have a speedy recovery. I hope that people of York do not take this as an opportunity to come along and retaliate at their end. If I saw who it was, or if I saw anything happen I would have waded in and given the little shuts a slap myself or assisted the police in naming then and bringing them to justice! Nothing but a custodial sentence will be good enough! On a positive note. ..well done to the lads on the pitch! Well done to the choir for making some noise.. let's hope that people statutory take notice of the efforts on the pitch and push the attendances through the roof! Let's not have incidents like thisome spoil it for for our club, players and fans!
Exact same thing happened last season at anfield, the Hull city fans coaches were bricked, we obviously have a similar problem, but on a smaller scale, not sure if liverpool as a club were punished or even the offenders. Hopefully so as these pri Madonna clubs should be setting the example.

As well as the statement issued bu BAFC on the matter, Paul Casson's also quoted in the Mail's article: "Obviously this was a mindless act of violence. Barrow AFC will not tolerate any kind of threatening behaviour and we wouldn't expect that of any true Barrow AFC supporter. I have full confidence in the Police to carry out their investigation, but if it was a Barrow AFC supporter and that they were at the game, they will be dealt with as severely as possible. It's just shocking - especially after such a wonderful day." Mr Casson is now calling for people across Barrow to rally together to stop this kind of behaviour and let the perpetrators know that it will not be accepted by the community. He said: "Too often football gets impugned by these mindless acts. The people of Barrow should band together and let people know that this kind of behaviour is totally unacceptable. This is a broader issue than football and people who travel to our town should be treated with respect. They should be allowed to have a wonderful day and perceive this town in the best possible light."

You think visiting a town (apparently)to cause trouble before a football game is acceptable behaviour?
You believe that provoking people (apparently) is acceptable behaviour?
You don't believe that provocation may, and sometimes, does lead to retaliation from the provoked?

You think a section of York's 'Fans' aren't partly to blame?

Okay.

Do you believe that those coaches would have been attacked if there had been no pre-match incidents?
APPARENTLY,,, say it all really

So the York fans were causing trouble in the town yet when they get to the ground they are quiet, well behaved and laid back -

York fans are not to blame at all you need to grow up if you think that - what happened was a total disgrace

Sounds like you are talking bull shit to me -
