I had the same view and agree absolutely. Frankly it was obvious and, whilst being a big Dixie fan, he let himself down there by not setting up his wall correctly. It was a HUGE hole that anybody would have gone for.Big E wrote:
We were directly in line behind the free kick and you could clearly see a gap past the wall - having said that it was a great strike and having seen the goal on tv I'm not sure Dixon would have got to it anyways, but perhaps with a better wall it may have not given him a sighter.

Only looking at video as could not make last nights game, but watching it is hard to see from camera angle but Williams ? On end of the wall actually turns sideways and leans his head back away from the flight of the ball. I don't blame him especially as the shot would have took his head off, but if that was the case the wall would have been ok ?Bigfathoss wrote:I had the same view and agree absolutely. Quite right, I meant to add that to my post but forgot! Looked very comfortable in that position and on that showing is a very solid third centre back.John_Bucks wrote:Not seen it mentioned but thought Anderson did really well alongside Danny at centre back. Like the way he plays and fit in very well.
Also meant to add that I thought Ross did quite well when he came on - also thought he was unlucky having that "goal" disallowed, having said that, he didn't complain much......unlike virtually every Taunton player at pretty much everything else on the pitch!
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Watching the highlights we could and probably should have won about 6-1.
Hannahs disallowed goal wasn't offside for a start.

Shame it didn't show the moment when Lazurus rose broken from the ground after racing out of his box for a clearance. At first he looked like he'd been snapped in two by Hannah, but when the ref told him he wasn't buying it that Ross had made any real contact his immediate recovery was a truly priceless moment in the game.saltcellar wrote:Official match highlights from Barrow's 2-1 victory over Taunton Town in the Emirates FA Cup First Round replay... https://t.co/PPq9D4umJx

Re: Barrow v Taunton Match Thread
I came up from Taunton last night and would like to thank Barrow for their hospitality. With the exception of the young fans who seemed to want to provoke a reaction I found everyone to be friendly and welcoming. Your stewards were fantastic and I thank them for helping to make it a good night. I am slightly gobsmacked by some of the posts on here however. Yes we were determined to match your full
Time professionals physically, but to say we were dirty is ridiculous. The barrow players knew when to go down, had the 'cute' reactions we didn't. To me it was a proper cup tie. Did you expect us to try and match you for silly football? We would have been hammered, we did what we had to do to compete. Remember we are part time and don't have a sugar daddy, I suspect you will up the physicality against rovers for the same reason. How about giving us some credit?? We have you a test, did not allow you to runaway with it, and I, for one am proud of my team. We beat three teams from higher leagues and have exceeded all expectations. I am sensing a tad bit of embarrassment that you had to work so hard to beat us. Good luck in the next round, but reign the bitterness in, it just makes you look like poor winners.

Re: Barrow v Taunton Match Thread
The score line did you proud, your players antics didn't.
You can sugar coat that last night however you want but Taunton had eight (I think) cards dished out to them, that could've very very easily been two or three double yellows resulting in several reds. Your keeper (who by the way had a good game) tried very hard to get Ross Hannah carded, you could see how annoyed Ross was by his reaction as your keeper lay writhing in some strange overacting display of feigned agony. How very strange that when the ref & liner never noticed anything and he was promptly told to get up.....he literally jumped to his feet to complain, surely one of THE single most ridiculous things I've ever seen at HS.
Your number 10 looked pretty decent and caused us quite a few problems but as I said in my earlier post, if he'd have spent more time concentrating on his football rather than whinging at virtually everything he might had a bigger impact on the game.
I'm not even going to go into all the individual fouls, I lost track after about thirty anyway but lets just quickly go back to what the other cheating Irish brother did at your spot, strange how that card was knocked back after being reviewed.
Your players weren't interested in matching us physically, they were just plain dirty but if that's how you play football down there then the best of luck.....you deserve none though!

Re: Barrow v Taunton Match Thread
You clearly watched a different game. Do we remember the ridiculous dive that led to your penalty at Wordsworth drive? Had that not happened we possibly wouldn't have had a replay last night. And is your club paying for the dressing room door that was smashed off its' hinges? There are different styles of football and you do what you have to do to compete. As pros you seem to look to the premier league for what's a fair tackle, believe it or not it's a mans game. Oh, and the only team to have a player sent off over the two games was you. Yes, it was rescinded but on what evidence I'm unsure. I saw your guy lean his head into Owen, violent conduct, red card. End of the day, you struggled to beat a team of plumbers, carpenters and accountants, over 180 minutes. With a budget about 20 times ours. Who's performed better

We did. We are in the second round.Woody200575 wrote: Who's performed better
Also, the incident resulting in our penalty in the first game was definitely not a dive. Clumsiness from your defender, our lad knew what to do and got in front of the defender and went down easy yes but that's completely different from a dive.

Re: Barrow v Taunton Match Thread
When we had a brake on late in the game one of the Taunton defenders purposefully smashed into Hannah (was it) & cynically wiped him out completely off the ball, Straight Red in anyone's book.

Re: Barrow v Taunton Match Thread
Went down easy indeed. That's what your players did throughout the two games. Precisely what I mean by your players being 'cute'. Straight red, really?? The ref obviously saw it differently, and without blinkers on as we finished with 11. Listen to your own managers assessment, be relieved that you escaped embarrassment and prepare your excuses for when rovers put you out.
Re: Barrow v Taunton Match Thread
Your beginning to sound bitter Woody.
Taunton gave it a good go but came up short as the tactics at home didn't work away. Once Barrow got in front the difference between the sides began to show as Barrow relaxed a started to play, it opened up a bit for Taunton as well but the players were clearly running on nothing but adrenaline at the end. A good effort but the Cup throws a curved ball at you sometimes, if your not watching it will knock you out. It's happened to Barrow against teams higher up plenty of times.
There was apparently no evidence to support it in the first place, it was over turned on video evidence showing Hughes standing still and not head butting.Woody200575 wrote:Oh, and the only team to have a player sent off over the two games was you. Re: Barrow v Taunton Match Thread
Woody does sound a bit miffed - Taunton could have been beaten out of sight in the replay - but 2-1 was enough.
Taunton raised their game over the 2 matches, but in the end on a Holker Street pitch that allows good passing they were undone....
HOWEVER - they were a better team and harder to beat than some teams we have faced this season - They caused us more problems than Eastleigh did for instance, and were a far better side than the Southport team when we beat them 4-1 away.
Some of the players are obviously better than level 8 and could go on to play higher. Palmer is at least Conference South standard - his free kick was one of the best I've seen in 37 years of watching Barrow games. Wright has the talent to play higher and the guy who took the set pieces in the 1st match look good too. The manager deserves credit for the team spirit he's instilled in the squad.
Most of the bookings came as Barrow's superior fitness told later in the match. The number 15's booking was a yellow all day long - maybe 1 ref in 20 would have given it as a red - but only if it has been a lot closer to the box.
The keeper looks a reasonable player too - perhaps not being a few inches taller is all that's stopping him playing higher - he had no chance with either goal, particularly his brothers deft touch for the winner. As the 2 central Taunton figures in the Hughes red card it looks like KARMA caught up with them.
Finally as a club Taunton should be applauded - they did their best - tried every trick within the rules to get through (growing the grass to 4-6" long) and the money and publicity they have gained from getting through so many rounds will help them no end. Just keep them away from us in the Trophy
