How precisely is it an uninspiring draw? You've got the sixth highest ranked team that can be in the competition at this stage! What were you expecting exactly?

Speaking for myself, not expecting but wanting a lower league team at home to hopefully progress to round 3 or a Northern football league team away.Woody200575 wrote:How precisely is it an uninspiring draw? Carlisle,Blackpool,Bolton, Fleetwood,Rochdale, Sheffield United etc away all preferable to Bristol Rovers away.

He said they were only developing 2 sides of the ground at the Q&A session in September viewtopic.php?f=2&t=24058Hadrian wrote:I don't think he has said he is 'only' developing two sides of the ground - check back with his late summer interview on BBCRC.

The BBC buggering about making it a Sunday again isn't great either. There should be a rule about that, they can do it once a season to you but no more, especially in consecutive rounds. If they are that bothered about picking us for telly, do it properly and give us full coverage.

We have played them before in the FA cup and they were a non league team a couple of seasons ago.Woody200575 wrote:How precisely is it an uninspiring draw? You've got the sixth highest ranked team that can be in the competition at this stage! What were you expecting exactly?
I realise you are all gutted as it would have been a dream draw for you lot.
As for the match on Tuesday we controlled the game throughout Taunton never looked like scoring bar a set piece.
Also its about getting through we have done that.
Roll on the next round and I can go back to forgetting Taunton town even existed.

Paul Cox already looking forward to visiting Bristol Rovers.

So, what are the odds that the BBC will trot out the Cotterill incident as part of their coverage?

THE NORTHERN WAY
Re: FA Cup 2nd Round Draw Crawley/Bristol R v Barrow/Taunton
Agreed. There's also the point that as a National League club with League 2 aspirations, playing a team from League 1 is not that exciting: we've faced Sunderland and Middlesbrough away in the last decade and this draw reduces the chances of getting something like that, while not being glamorous or easy to get toRichard Ingham wrote:Same here Jimmy.JimmyCrabstick wrote:

It's NOT all about Marketing/Promoting. Our ground is a Toilet! Full Stop.mulholland wrote:Historically it's fairly safe to say we're in the best position we've been in since we were kicked out of the league yet the crowds don't reflect that and there has to be reasons for this. I think people within the club should be doing a lot more to promote the games as well as the club. Agree with 'Bingo' the overall match-day experience is, like the facilities, dreadful. Apologies 'Alley Cat' but let's compare us with say, Forest Green, who are probably also in their best position and also have a wealthy owner. Their average attendance has doubled in the last decade, the home fans are sheltered behind both ends and they've got openly accessible plans for their new ground. There, I've used a comparison, totally out of order I admit but what do you want me to compare us to...a launderette?
Apart from the playing surface, it hasn't changed much from the 70s - in fact - it's in a worse condition due to the eradication of roofing at both goal ends.
I attended our away fixture at Forest Green and their stadium was far superior to ours - and their new one...well WOW!
Fylde have had a big improvement in attendances since they moved into their new stadium.
IMPROVE Holker Street and our attendances will rise...Guaranteed!

Main stand - completely rebuilt. Fewer stanchions but the paddock was lost. An improvement??The Tomahawk Kid wrote: Apart from the playing surface, it hasn't changed much from the 70s - in fact - it's in a worse condition due to the eradication of roofing at both goal ends.
Holker End - crush barriers installed in '88, no roof, section given over to away fans. Got worse.
Popular Side - New roof and crush barriers but a section lost to the press box.
Steelworks End - Terracing installed in the 90s.
Toilets - largely the same
Turnstiles - as above but fewer open. I remember the turnstiles next to the Bluebird with the pie hut in the corner.
Anything else?
This topic came to mind on Tuesday night - I was queuing in a poorly lit area, uneven surface riddled with puddles, with concessions told to queue for a turnstile labelled 'Adults only' and adults and kids in a different queue. I ended up paying my money to a young lady with a plastic tub through an opened gate rather than through a turnstile. I didn't mind but I do wonder what first time visitors or relatively new fans think of things like that.

The game on Tuesday kicked off with 3 large slow moving queues outside, it was taking a long time to get each supporter through the turnstiles. The turnstiles are slow on the best of days, they were unprepared for the numbers that night.
For those that weren't there... The players were on the pitch and the plastic tub mentioned was on the large gate. An attempt by the stewards to get people into the ground faster by forming a 4th queue for those with correct change. I was tempted to join that queue as I had correct change, but I stayed put as I was close to getting in anyway. Still took another couple of minutes and I did miss the first few minutes of the game and others missed more. It was one of the few nights I actually had the time to go early and I didn't.
