Didn't consult a map and measure it actually. What is the exact distance as the crow flies? It was an approximate distance. The point being it was a relatively short distance.audigex wrote:I'd be interested to know which roads you take to get to Chester in only 20 miles. Clubs can do it, we did it for North Ferriby before there trophy final didn't we.GTBLUE wrote:You say, "you think" so you are guessing then.K_BFC wrote:It will have come down to the ref regarding the match going ahead and the pitch will have been inspected and conditions taken into account.
I think the request mentioned was probably made some time ago by Macclesfield. An attempt to avoid tonights match being too close to their Friday FA Cup game. Clubs are allowed to mutually rearrange league matches but they both have to agree and have to do so a number of days in advance, the national league has veto. I presume, it was in Macclesfield's interests not to play tonight so they asked. With the league the priority, Barrow in form and not playing till Sunday, why delay the game and allow an opponent the chance to regroup at a later date.

And neither did Macclesfield do it a hour before they requested a few weeks ago.GTBLUE wrote:Not an hour or so before no.boyliegladbach wrote: Clubs can do it, we did it for North Ferriby before there trophy final didn't we.

Makes no sense that. Why turn up for the game tonight then if a request was made weeks ago not to play it.Van Der Nipper wrote:And neither did Macclesfield do it a hour before they requested a few weeks ago.GTBLUE wrote:

[quote="John Very Little"]They will have to pay Barrow's expenses but how much of this was deiberately done out of spite because we didn't agree about trying to get the game rearranged due to THEIR Cup match on Friday?
Five hours of my life I won't get back. My travelling partner and I got outside the ground at just after 7pm to be told it was off. The pictures I took off the pitch, I have to take my hat off to the groundsman it was perfect, the patch of turf I was stood on ten yards away from club boundary would have easily taken studs and that hasn't been protected from the frost at all. Oh neither had the [SwearFilter] pitch. I was told by two elderly local fans on separate occasions that they couldn't believe it was called off. Brilliant sunshine on the pitch all day one old boy told me would have melted any frost in the ground. They had a local ref inspect it at 11am then 2pm, the fans forum suggested that they have covers if needed to be put on the ground, one of the gents said they only put these on at 3pm and that was only the penalty areas.
No gritting on the road, no other match in the north west called off due to the weather. Tin pot club looking to the financial rewards of tv coverage for the home FA cup tie and making a lame excuse to call it off.
I am praying for an extra hard frost on their pitch so your big night in front of the tv cameras is called off due to the weather, but guess what they will now be doing their damnest to ensure should they get Siberian -30 below zero the pitch is playable, where they did [SwearFilter] all when there was a chill in the air.
Macclesfield FC you deserve nothing as you obviously view the competition you play in and the supporters of your rival teams with contempt, your greed for money over fixture fulfilment was the reason tonight's game was cancelled.
You can trot out any excuse you wish but please I was there and I know what I saw. As Jim Royle would say, "frozen pitch, my arse"
Here's looking forward to Bristol hopefully a club that can cope with a zero temperature on the thermometer.

Re: Macclesfield Town GAME OFF
Its not Barrow's fault the game was called off so late, the game wasn't called off till 6ish and there are other ways of checking whether or not the game is on other than solely using Barrow's website.orpheus wrote:should have gone on the official siteRichard Ingham wrote:

I agree they should have got it put on there but they aren't fully responsible for tonight's shambles just because it wasn't on the website as you seem to say in your post.
On Cuffy's point didn't the ref inspect the pitch and call the game off?
Re: Macclesfield Town GAME OFF
It would be interesting to know what Mr Cox and the players thought about whether the pitch was playable.

According to Evening Mail Cox agreed with the decision but said it should of been made much earlier.Jim wrote:It would be interesting to know what Mr Cox and the players thought about whether the pitch was playable.

Re: Macclesfield Town GAME OFF
Altrincham, Chorley, FC United of Manchester, Salford City, Marine, Stalybridge Celtic FA Trophy matches all off so hardly a surprise that Macclesfield was also off. Awful for away supporters travelling long distances to find matches off and I'm sure, in some cases, decisions could be made earlier. I'm travelling to Bristol for the cup match and hoping I don't arrive to find it's off but it's only a couple of hours drive for me which is a lot easier than travelling down from Barrow and having to turn back without seeing a match.

Do any of the above mentioned clubs have frost covers though?russell_anderson wrote:Altrincham, Chorley, FC United of Manchester, Salford City, Marine, Stalybridge Celtic FA Trophy matches all off so hardly a surprise that Macclesfield was also off. We know Macclesfield have excellent ones as their supporters never stopped telling us when our game against them was called off.
