Just to be pendantic, we did have a sell on clause with Holt when we sold him to Sheff Wed. Unfortunately they released him, allowing Rochdale to pick him up and sell him on after a long spell in the goals. .The Real Slim a former member of this forum wrote:I agree Mike. Agree I think reality has kicked in lots of good things started but if the mail is to be believed P Casson was telling us to enjoy these players a thing supporters do as a matter of fact as some will be wanted by other bigger team.stilltheman wrote:already let down on ground. rumours in town that cassons isnt as flush as it would seem. this is oppo to splash the cash and prove it. already heard williams has singed for fleetwood for 125k in jan. and no that bennett is being looked at by leeds 100 pc fact.
The team is short in numbers with Paul Cox saying he has a small squad.
People are disappointed with little happening with ground improvements.
What happens in January will show the way Paul Casson wants this club to go.
Will we keep the players and reinforce the team or try and claw back some of his expenditure.
January will tell.
Re: Ryan Yates - Worth a cheeky enquiry ?
Spotting and buying players on the cheap and selling for profit is pretty essential if we want a sustainable club. Your logic seems to suggest we should rely fully on PC's dollars and he should bear the brunt of all costs. A bigger indicator on the sort of club we have will be whether the cash we make on the sale of our good players is reinvested sensibly on club infrastructure. Sell a couple of players and we might have a start on the ground redevelopments, have some stock in our shop, get the internet and a decent website...

Being realistic though, Fleetwood in league one, surely the player is going to have some say also. According to a write-up by Casson he stated that making the squad full time took all the resources/time, I've heard it mentioned also we get a million in grants if we get promoted? so where's the sense in selling unless they want to leave. I mean mentioning about Cassons wealth, average crowds of 1300? does anything think that's enough to cover the wages of this lot? hes hardly made a profit so far?Pedro wrote:Agree I think reality has kicked in lots of good things started but if the mail is to be believed P Casson was telling us to enjoy these players a thing supporters do as a matter of fact as some will be wanted by other bigger team.stilltheman wrote:already let down on ground. rumours in town that cassons isnt as flush as it would seem. this is oppo to splash the cash and prove it. already heard williams has singed for fleetwood for 125k in jan. and no that bennett is being looked at by leeds 100 pc fact.

Lets not kid ourselves this little hobby will be costing Mr Casson a fortune the gates we are getting will not be paying the players and Managers wages if we have 20 players on £500 a week before Tax and NI that's £10,000 a week, do we pay 52 weeks or just football season weeks, so if he can sell a few players to help pay for all that than so be it, lets not forget it is his club so will do what is right for him, when the day comes when he sells the club we will just have to deal with it.

Re: Ryan Yates - Worth a cheeky enquiry ?
The vast majority of clubs outside the big 6 or 7 have to sell to bring in cash, look at Southampton, sold nearly a full squad over the past 2-3 seasons. What makes Barrow any different? If the price is right we sell and try to use the money wisely in developing other young players who no doubt we will sell on when the time and price is right. We just have to make sure we put in place decent add on clauses when we do sell. No way a club the size or with the crowds of Barrow can survive otherwise.

Get real some people.
PC owner can do what he wants. He doesn't owe anyone anything. Without him we could be easily looking forward to the visit of Mickleover Sports on Boxing Day.
Who knows, who cares how much dosh he really has. What he's done so far has us in our best position since 1972.
We should embrace the moment and just support the team.
Repeat - we should embrace the moment and just support the team.
He doesn't owe us a new ground, or new floodlights, or more players, or anything else.
If it happens great, but no one can demand these things.
He will give what he wants, and people on here calling him because we don't have e.g. a new ground yet are just naive.
Every week PC manager speaks about the club growing, and that being the continuing intention.
I believe him because I want to, rather than fretting about what might be.
If players leave, good luck to them, they've deserved to become recognised because they've played well.

Agreed casson owes us nowt, but regarding the ground and floodlight, maybe he shouldn't have been so quick to plot out his plans for holker St and the floodlights as most things they were originally mentioned seem to have been binned And I'm beginning to think that this topic of conversation will be still going on in years to come I'm afraid if it wasn't for the great work of the volunteers HS would be well and truly [SwearFilter]
Just my opinion

Re: Ryan Yates - Worth a cheeky enquiry ?
I think he is a very clever business man and I have a feeling he has money but won't spend it if he doesn't need to (he's not going to waste money) - we are in such a strong position in terms of the league etc that waiting to see where this season takes us before spending loads on the ground may be wise. I would like nothing more than to see a redeveloped/improved Holker Street but I am happy to be patient. The FA Cup run has generated some money so far so hopefully that has taken the pressure off.
If we spend he next couple of years worrying about what might happen if PC walks away then it won't be an enjoyable experience. A chance to make it the FA Cup 4th round and a realistic chance of being a football league club - we've never had it so good.
In terms of players, maybe if we weren't in a strong position we would be looking to sell players but I just feel both PC's will want to keep this side together to see what happens. If we do sell tho I have confidence in Paul Cox to bring in other players to do a good job.

Agree with all points but I would like to remind us all that football is an expensive game and we as fans reserve our right to have concerns over certain areas of the club. Things are going very well, maybe even too well at the moment. That can all change very easily.Hitthebar22 wrote:Get real some people.

What will happen next year if we don't go up? Will fans expect this sort of form every season? What will happen if this is just a one season wonder? Not all scenarios I want to see but its worth speculating at least.
Will Casson keep putting the money in if we keep narrowly missing out on promotion like Forest Green? Where will that leave the club financially? When will the club finally put plans in place to sustain future income avenues?
