York City v Barrow
Re: York City v Barrow
Excellent comments Jim. Harrison totally disinterested all game. He was an ornament. The worst thing we did was to go back into our shell after the goal. The whole team looked as if they thought they would get a draw after that and didn't have to do anymore. A draw would be ok attitude that got the result it deserved. Really poor.
Just say no to VAR

Re: York City v Barrow
Apart from a 20 min spell we were dredful against a fairly poor York side
A point would have been a fair result
But we are still in a great position and have some big games still to come - I'm certainly not going to get down over a game of football

Well said Bingo, work in progress, springs to mind, onwards and upwards.
Hiya boys.
Re: York City v Barrow
Not read all the other posts, though I can guess what the general perception was - absolutely abysmal.
Anderton and Livesey were fine, everyone else pretty much useless. If it wasn't for a scruffy goal where their keeper should have kept hold of it, there would have been barely an effort to speak of. Obviously he's not the only one that's been awful lately, but Williams was dreadful again - a few crosses that hit the first man, and a few dribbles down blind alleys. It's obvious why nobody's come in for him, because he should be in real danger of having his place nicked.
Diarra defended like the player we were expecting when we signed him - a positional nightmare. Caught out of position, beaten in the air almost every time by Parkin, and totally outmuscled. I get the feeling him and Bennett have played their best football for us already, and are probably settling back down to being average Conference North/South players. Turnbull's passing was poor, Harvey got caught on the ball too much, Harrison is either tired or "not arsed", Hughes tried for a bit, and even Beeley looked rubbish on that showing.
The referee and linesman were shambolic, but York were worthy winners, and Flatt pulled off a couple of good saves to keep us in it.
Something's not right, but the players and management need to stop blaming the fans' negativity for being some kind of burden, because there is one thing that's obviously missing, and that's effort. The two players that have been consistently playing well in this slump - Livesey and Anderton - are also the only two who look like they care. That can't be a coincidence.
Dreading the next few games, and it certainly feels like the season is over as far as play-off aspirations go, even though a look at the table suggests otherwise.

Stick with it and we'll start picking up the results soon. All teams will have these blips and better now than last 10 ganes. Im confident we'll bring in some additions and come good again at the right time. POSITIVE!

You wouldn't think it would be so hard to find a midfielder who can break down the opposition attack and pass it to a team mate but we seem to struggle with finding one

Re: York City v Barrow
Perhaps it`s Barrow`s style of play that`s putting them off!

Would be good, but it just isn't the way the manager sets the team up to play!HenneysKnee wrote:You wouldn't think it would be so hard to find a midfielder who can break down the opposition attack and pass it to a team mate but we seem to struggle with finding one
Obvious to us all now.
Yates was great, but in a positional and destructive way, not particularly creative but could see a pass. Energy his great attribute.
Anyone that thinks we are going to carve open the opposition with pinging the ball around on the floor is going to be disappointed.
We are all wondering about players potentially coming in during transfer time - possible recruits must be big, athletic and strong, otherwise Cox is going to have to change the game plan. Personally I can't see that happening.
Incidentally, does anyone really know the style of play he utilised to get Mansfield promotion?
If it's the same as our current style then we know what we is in store for us.
Still total support, but gritted teeth through the ugliness of it, and dare I say the predictability.
Re: York City v Barrow
Think we need to freshen up. Not necessarily just the starting line up but perhaps the formation. Why don't we try going 3-5-2. Beeley and anderton have the engines to get up and down. They've proven that. Anderton in particular has enough quality to play further forward.
We can also get one of the central midfielders closer to bennett/harrison. I think they've been too isolated up front.
Diarra has gone backwards last 6 weeks and perhaps this setup might favour him. As we've struggled so much since Yates left perhaps another body in the middle would help.

Re: York City v Barrow
It was similar stuff at Mansfield except they had two quick wingers (usually) we really lack pace when there's a chance to break and to say we are a "long ball side" we don't actually get the ball out wide and whip a lot of crosses into the box

What you mean to say is, you weren't at the game, and you think the recent performances have been okay, right?Hadrian wrote:Jonty makes more sense than Paul and Moribund.

Re: York City v Barrow
Totally agree plus I don't think Williams, Harrison, Bennett and hughes work hard enough you should come off that pitch exhausted but everyweek we see our full backs exposed early in the season we did this, yes this is partly cox's fault for not rotating enough but I sometimes think do our players want promotion enough and when we played Rochdale we should have been right on it but again nothing!HenneysKnee wrote:It was similar stuff at Mansfield except they had two quick wingers (usually) we really lack pace when there's a chance to break and to say we are a "long ball side" we don't actually get the ball out wide and whip a lot of crosses into the box
I think deep down Cox didn't expect this squad to be up where we are so now it's catch 22 because he probably wanted to more or less play out this season then get the 4or 5 quality players we need next season
