Re: Macclesfield (A) Match Thread
I couldn't really see us getting anything from the Aldershot and Macc games, so to come away with 4pts is a fantastic effort. Need 3pts on Saturday now to help keep up this new found momentum

If he were in his early or even mid twenties he'd be the number 1 target for league clubs. The reason he's not must be only because of his age.Middleton Nick wrote:You hear of the scouts watching Williams,Anderton and bids coming in, but I am surprised nobody at a higher level has come in for Livesey. He is our player of the season so far in my opinion and plays at a consistently high level.russell_anderson wrote:I only see away matches in the South but over the last 2 seasons I've never seen one match where Livesey wasn't in the best 2 or 3 players for Barrow and usually THE best. He' s an exceptional player at this level. Not only are his performances exceptional but they are also incredibly consistent.

Can't believe they are still sobbing into their tofu bricquettes. They really need to address the fact that they let a two goal lead slip against nine men, that would be more constructive than putting their man buns through the mangle.

Re: Macclesfield (A) Match Thread
Yes, a comparison of the Macc and Aldershot websites post match is quite interesting. Don't know why some BAFC fans have a downer on Macc supporters. I've always found them pretty decent and certainly more like us it would appear than those from Aldershot. From what I gather the game last night was pretty hard fought and there was a fair bit of huffing, puffing and long ball. The general consensus however was that the game was decent and despite Wrights 2 yellows there's little whinging on the Macc website about that (more so on the Aldershot website interestingly). Indeed the defensive nature of much of the performance (with ten men) was commented on positively.
Having been at Aldershot all I can say is that it became quite fever pitched and the timing and uniqueness of Hannahs equaliser must've felt like a Doc Martins in the nether regions. The fans I saw leaving the ground were a little zombie like - it was a frankly a bit wierd. The nearest experience we have had in recent times would've been the Tranmere game last January when (as I hardly need to remind anybody) we conceded three goals in injury time to lose a game 4-3 that we should've won 3-1. However, I've been back and looked at the post match comments on that game and whilst there was plenty of anger, rage and depression it was virtually all directed at our own team and not at the opposition.
Fans are fickle. The only Aldershot response worth listening to was that of Gary Waddock. If anybody saw his post-match on BT Sports the guys outward calm was betrayed by the anger clearly visible in his eyes. This was not directed at us, but at his own players for allowing us to get back into the game from an absolutely dominant position. He's a cracking manager and like PC is a big reason why his team's form has improved this season. Funnily enough, after a much calmer encounter last night Askey's post match evaluation of his own team was virtually identical - failing to convert opportunities at critical points in the game.

Official match highlights from Barrow's 1-0 win over Macclesfield Town... https://t.co/yd1aw8YvOl
Bit disappointing, that considering Akil Wright got sent off for two yellow cards, his first booking was not shown on the highlights.
According to James Phillips and Gavin Skelton on Radio Cumbria and Paul Cox after the match it was not even handball let alone a bookable offence.
James Phillips kept going on about Mario Ballotelli putting the ball in the net in a similar fashion for Liverpool when the ball came to him off the crossbar.

On that viewing, Wright's tackle wasn't as stupid as it looked - his trailing leg looks to have caught the full-back when he's gone to block the clearance. Blatant handball for the penalty, so no idea what the Macclesfield lot are on about.saltcellar wrote:Official match highlights from Barrow's 1-0 win over Macclesfield Town... https://t.co/yd1aw8YvOl
Re: Macclesfield (A) Match Thread
Saw a brief clip of the away fans on Facebook. Swear they were chanting about a Conrad Black (?) at some point? Couldn't see that name or anything similar on the team sheet. Is he part of the backroom staff now?

Re: Macclesfield (A) Match Thread
I’m not sure how closely you follow Barrow but we have had bad blood with Macc since a cup tie a few seasons back where there was an accusation of racist chanting against Barrow supporters. I was at the game and heard no such thing and neither did anyone else who was at the game; however it didn’t stop their manager going on TV and categorically stating there was ‘monkey chanting’ at the game directed towards some Macc player. No charges were ever proven.Suffolk Blue wrote:Don't know why some BAFC fans have a downer on Macc supporters. We played Macc again a short while later (possibly a replay) and there was an EDL cell on the terraces opposite us chanting (clearly audible) about what racists we were; the irony of which seemed totally lost on them. Playing Macc again last season a tanked up number of them planted themselves in the Holker End and started the racism stuff again. The Barrow supporters showed pretty good restaint I thought and it was getting a bit over heated when the Police arrived and herded them into the segregated area.
Okay not exactly Green Street but the racism accusations were real low blows and blatant lies which we have not forgotten.

Re: Macclesfield (A) Match Thread
Wintergreen, all I can say is that my experience of Macc goes back well before that to a time when I worked in Manchester and had several colleagues who were Macc lifers. I often went down to the Moss Rose always had a laugh and was always treated well.
I do remember the incidents you mention Wintergreen - and whilst I wasn't there seem to recall it was originally another heated encounter. If I were to base my view of Macclesfield and their fans on a couple of incidents then in fairness I would have to accept the Aldershot view of us as being dirty northern ba**a*d*s. As an aside, I would also add that some of the chants and abuse coming emanating from a portion of our own supporters on Saturday would be considered by most decent people as both vile and disgusting, made worse by the type of game it was. Not a great advert for the town and not great for any parents with kids. But it came from only a handful of the "faithful". Personally, its all in the game as far as I'm concerned. But we should leave our anger and biases at the turnstiles when we leave.

What a goal saving block by Burke in the first half. Had goal written all over that. Brilliant stuff.

Quite correct, Suffolk Blue. I recall a chant at Harrogate in which the first line of the chorus describes copulation with the opposition fans mothers, the second about ejaculating on her stairs. An absolutely outrageous thing to be shouting about in public.

I'm sorry if the facts I stated from first hand experience weren't to your liking. Smoke screen it with other unrelated events if you want but your original query was why so many Barrow fans had a 'downer' on Macc and now you know.Suffolk Blue wrote:Wintergreen, all I can say is that my experience of Macc goes back well before that to a time when I worked in Manchester and had several colleagues who were Macc lifers.
