It would not cost anymore to run in the Football League, than it does in the National League and in many respects we would be a lot better off.The Real Slim a former member of this forum wrote:Theres a few fans who seem to think the club could run in the FL solely on TV money.ruins wrote:Promotion would be a bad thing. How anyone can say just being involved in the playoffs is beyond me. What's the point being involved if you don't win. If it happened we could improve the team yes however the running of the club wouldn't survive in the FL. Take the positive aspects of this season, work on them and go again next year. Should be looking at an approach like Fleetwood.
Theres sadly not a lot being put in place to aid the running of the club at the moment, Paul Cassons cash injections will one day run out.

I would be interested to see the evidence and facts behind that assumption.DIXIE wrote:It would not cost anymore to run in the Football League, than it does in the National League and in many respects we would be a lot better off.The Real Slim a former member of this forum wrote:

My educated guess would be it would certainly cost more to run a football league club that a National League one.
Whether the additional income from being in this league covered those costs is impossible to tell at the moment but again my educated guess would be that it wouldn't.
Some people really do need to think a bit more before they post things on here

I would say the additional income would more than cover costs. Players wages around the same, if higher only slighty, travel and accommodation costs the same.Stephen Leonard wrote:I would be interested to see the evidence and facts behind that assumption.DIXIE wrote: It would not cost anymore to run in the Football League, than it does in the National League and in many respects we would be a lot better off.

Being better off in the Football League is obvious.
Why except for maybe a slight increase in our playing staff wage bill, would it cost more to run the Football Club. It is impossible to tell, am i missing something? financially we would obviously be better off inside the FL.

It's difficult to know - but my gut feel would be that we would not be massively better off in the EFL.DIXIE wrote:I would say the additional income would more than cover costs. Where is the additional income? Is it from bigger gates at home or some big commercial drive? Or are there additional funds from within the EFL that distributed? (excluding capital grants)

According to this, a League 2 annual payment is £474,000 a year.

I know next to nothing about football finance, but that must be full time salaries for around fifteen lower paid footballers.
A number of clubs do seem to survive on very low gates.

Isn't that a parachute payment for relegation from League 2?Tommy wrote:According to this, a League 2 annual payment is £474,000 a year.

Re: Maidstone Match Thread
If I've read it correctly, the parachute payment is 100% of a normal League 2 payment.
Makes you wonder how York spent theirs.

My view is that to survive and progress in the football league will take more expenditure on the ground, playing staff, off field staff, general infrastructure, travel, training etc - Yes there will be additional income from TV deals and a probable short term increase in crowds (unless progress upwards is maintained) but I don't think this would last forever.
I would imagine before the promotion from National League North the last 2 times people would have said that financially we would be better off in the National League as there is more crowds, more sponsorship etc. The facts have proved that assumption wrong both times.
If the club was set up to exploit all the opportunities for increased revenue that might come from promotion then in the short term it might be ok - but I think that is the major problem I foresee - the club is not ready off the pitch for promotion (the same as it wasnt in 2009).
All about opinions though isnt it.

Re: Maidstone Match Thread
In the Football League the segregated area in the stand would have to be drastically changed. They wouldn't tolerate the two strands of rope down the aisle that passes for segregation now. I think there has to be 14 rows of empty seats between fans if I remember correctly. As it stands now that would take my reserved seat out for starters and a huge chunk of the HSE of the stand.
Mind you if they start extending the end of the stand now in readiness I and the others might be ok.
Get cracking!!!!!!!

We have found at Maidstone that the quickest but most expensive way to increase attendances, is to build decent modern facilities from which to watch the game. Followed closely by winning promotions. But that's pretty much stating the bleeding obvious.

Re: Maidstone Match Thread
If we made the league I think we would need more football people involved in running the club to exploit every revenue making opportunity
Didn't the previous board get crucified for saying ths is a horrible league you are better off In the league above or below ( which most took as the board wanting us down)
In the football league we would get more grants/ funding from the league in at the first round of the fa cup + the league cup where you can play bigger sides
We do need better facility's tho some good ticket offers plenty of kids offers and some work on really building the hardcore - get tickets on sale from a shop / stall or several shops etc
Back to the game - we weren't great but if we miss out on the play offs it will be all those silly losses that have cost us

Two bad goals to concede, uncharacteristicly bad defending. Bizarre to see home and away fans on the same terrace these days
