Floodlights Update

30 Metres tall.
Just wondering if that makes these new towers higher than the old ones ?.

From the Special Floodlight Souvenir programme against Dunfermline:- "Each tower is 94 feet high and is set on a concrete base 12 feet underground".

94ft translates to 28.65 metres.

Thanks for that John because I seem to remember Paul Casson saying,the towers that are about to come down looked quite dominant from various locations around the town.

Good on the 4x30m front and that sounds like we are going for stadium high mast system. With the extra set across the Main Stand, will be a real difference to what we've had. Maybe a nothing to some, but I love the sense of anticipation on a night match coming down Cemetery Hill with the Holker Street floodlights blazing down. Duffin captures this well in his art.

Now we have "details" about the new floodlights, it would also be good if we had some news on proper plans/timescale for the rest of the ground - it's been a while since we've heard anything.

Youd think with them spending on the floodlights thay it would go hand in hand with plans for the rest of the ground.

Why 30M tall? Going back to School days, I seem to remember that illumination v distance travelled from source, varies by the inverse square law.

In other words, it would seem uneconomical to provide the necessary output to illuminate a pitch from 30M when a set of, say 10M poles would do the job more energy efficiently and less of a problem with foundations.

Yes,well,an advantage to spectators of the new 30 metre high towers is that they are less likely to 'dazzle' like those temporary lights do that are situated half way down the existing towers.

28-30m high mast stadium poles are the standard for clubs / stadiums our size when replacing systems. Nothing uneconomical about the modern LED Systems either, cheaper to run, longer lasting and with less light pollution behind and can be brightened / dimmed to suit natural light levels. So economical even Vince will get them when you have your new wooden ground built.

Work due to start - foundations etc. Grant not awarded from football foundation, but expected. Work will be done regardless.

Whilst they are very good...I was thinking more in line with those you see on the sides of buildings that are going up (as I am sure you are well aware )

I just can't visualise how these will look.

I hope Mr Straker's confidence is well-founded. I've been involved a lot with grant funding and the usual criterion is that it's to help projects which otherwise couldn't/wouldn't go ahead - funding of the last resort. The moment someone says "We'll carry on regardless" funders will walk away with the view they'll help projects which need the money more.

Perhaps the Football Foundation operates differently.
