Fylde with an inexperienced manager like Chalinor will be bottom 3rd next season. A bit like Maidstone, decent crowds but a average team. Away fans will make up a huge percentage of there crowds.

I can't believe your staggering negativity about the chairman.Pedro wrote:Like it IF!liverpoolann wrote:If we have another meet the manager/squad pre season do this year I do hope when questions invited we will hear some asking mr casson a) did you feel you had spent enough money by January on players budget b) were you unavailable by phone when Paul Cox was trying to contact you allegedly with players in his presence ready to sign and c) Have you underestimated expense of renovating /improving ground and therefore revamped and reduced your ambitions in this direction.Am fed up listening to people carping on about it this season under the Casson doesn't want to go up banner .Attend and ask the man direct or shut up
I will be there but he should have had one in January.
Who cares about the reasons behind his control of the club? Fundamentally he is a committed Barrow supporter who is able to assist financially in a very telling way. Without him we would be seriously struggling in National League North, about to be relegated.
You bang on about lack of January investment as though it's some God given right for the club to be able to attract and fund suitable players.
It's Casson's money, not yours, and don't ever forget it.
You also have spent all season rubbishing our goalkeepers. This isn't the Premiership; goalkeepers aren't that great in this league (look at today's example for NF). Yes, Flatt makes mistakes. Yes, so did Dixon, but by comparison to others playing at this level, they aren't bad. Best one I've seen this season is the Tranmere one. YOU?

Best goalkeeping performance I've seen from a goalkeeper playing for a National League club this season was, funnily enough, for Barrow! Tim Erlandsson's performance for Barrow at Bristol Rovers was far and away the best I saw in any of the matches I watched. Sadly, he didn't stay for very long!

The (apparently) contracted opposition goalkeepers in approx the 35 games I've seen this season haven't been great. Some excellent saves of course, that's what goalies are meant to do, but a lot have made poor handling and kicking mistakes, and are often out of position.
Very few throw the ball, very few kick it flat, so generally it's the ariel hump upfield which immediately gives the opposition possession again.
That must be something done under management orders, and I don't really get it. When we adopt that "tactic", at a guess we immediately lose the ball 85% of the time after our keeper kicks it. It's pot luck where the headers we do win end up.
A throw means we should automatically be in possession, a flatter kick gives a much better chance of a flick on, and then is much more difficult to defend. At a higher level Fabian Bartez at Man U was a master distributor of the long fast throw and the flat kick.

You don't know why keepers kick it long? It's basic stuff, honestly.Hitthebar22 wrote:russell_anderson wrote:Best goalkeeping performance I've seen from a goalkeeper playing for a National League club this season was, funnily enough, for Barrow! For next season - keep Cox and get him a new assistant seeing as Simpson has gone down a black hole. Keep hold of our better players, sign new players to improve us in key positions (centre midfield x 2, for me) and deepen the squad.
Easy.

Re: Thoughts turn to next season
Pretty much what LB says especially re midfielders. Matt Rhead as player/assistant manager to would be a shout for me.
Finished 7th. Fa Cup 3rd Round. Quarter Finals Trophy. Some great days and a few not so great.
It's been a funny season, we've got to capitalise on interest when we are doing well and didn't manage that really, especially not strengthening the team properly in January. Off the park we were a bit better but hardly pulled up any trees.
I think a long term investment would be to slash admission prices a la Eastleigh and Sutton but we won't do that, which for me is short sighted, as is targeting the young people we do have here in a negative manner at any difficult point. There's elements within the club would be much happier if we were playing Frickley and no one under 18 was in the ground- that has to stop.
If we must mention Fylde, they will develop more off the park (Fair play for that) but Challinor will get found out IMHO as will that lazy shithouse Rowe. Mid table for them.
I don't see where the league will be better with Orient and Hartlepool down. Neither will challenge, it's a decent swap... I'd like to see us wave goodbye to FGR with Lincoln as they are financially doping the league even more than others.

Re: Thoughts turn to next season
From what I've seen I completely agree re the need for a couple of good quality, mobile central midfield players but one (or two if Williams is played more centrally) winger with pace is also desperately needed.Lancaster Branch wrote:For next season - keep Cox and get him a new assistant seeing as Simpson has gone down a black hole. 44 goals (so far) is some return though BA. Imagine the jizzfest if one of ours scored that many in a season.barrowaberdeen wrote: If we must mention Fylde, they will develop more off the park (Fair play for that) but Challinor will get found out IMHO as will that lazy shithouse Rowe. Many 'average conf north players' seem to have left Barrow and done very well for themselves.

Re: Thoughts turn to next season
Fair comment, to an extent that's just football though- and the final 18 months prior to Casson were very hard all round re wages etc so could well have been a factor. I will be more impressed if he gets 25 next season. Not sure anything he did at this level previously. Same goes for Challinor,. Untested at this level as a manager. Look at the difference between Edmo and Cox in approach and contacts. Much will depend on how their chairman sees it I guess.Steeley wrote:44 goals (so far) is some return though BA.
