Alan martin - return

Post by Dumbartonsfinest » Sat May 20, 2017 5:36 pm

I hear that Alan martin may be returning to barrow according to some friends at the club up here! He has 3 or 4 full time offers on the table with Barrow one of them! He has played for you guys before ?

Yes, he had a great spell with us 2009 ish and at that time was being pencilled in for big things. Lost track of his moves last few seasons but noticed he picked up a lot of the awards at Dumbarton end of last season.

We have a good young prospect with Joel Dixon and I'd put him and Alan Martin as good as any we've had in the last 10 years

Will watch this space and see what happens with this one. Is he out of favour at your place?

He's very much in favour... he took a clean sweep of our player of the year awards , 5 from 5! He has full time offers which we can't compete with, best GK I have seen at the club in recent times

Hopefully Joel will sign for Manchester United probably not good enough for Chelsea or the other big clubs

Agreed - very good goalkeeper and would bring Joel on that bit too.

I think a lot of us felt very similar when he was with us, but his career seemed to flounder a bit after 2009. He wasn't as impressive on his second loan spell in 2011 and has had a lot of clubs. Would be very welcome if his form seems to be back on track and at 28 still has plenty of time as a keeper.

BTW are Dumbarton only part-time? I would have presumed the second tier of Scottish football was fully professional!

Yes - we are officially the best part time team in Scotland for the 6th season in a row! Ourselves and Ayr being the only part time clubs in the championship! Aldo should definitely be playing at a higher level, he always has time for the fans and seems a genuine good guy. I think he has offers from
Championship and premier teams up here as well as barrow from what I hear from a well informed club official

This would be an unbelievable signing if we can pull it off. His second spell here I believe he was only 50% fit coming off Achilles injury he picked up playing for Scotland.
5 player of the year awards this season, league 1 experience. Just what we need - experience. And at 28 he will be coming into his prime. Well done Mr cox and Mr casson if this is true

1 - Martin
2 - Hurst
3 - Farrely
