True...but they had one of the longest running sponsorship deals with Leicester. Over 14 years I believe.DIXIE wrote:Been a while since Walkers had there name on a shirt ?Londonblue wrote:

I know I'm an old fuddy duddy but I don't really get the wearing of replica tops; for example if you go to Cartmel Races do you feel the need to dress like a jockey?
Expensive and poor quality, they're probably the worst garment in your wardrobe and are discarded after 8 months.

I think you'll find that Walkers had a huge sponsorship deal with Leicester - including the naming of the stadium.Londonblue wrote:If that's the case why would Walkers waste money on sponsoring football shirts if it didn't generate some form of return? I haven't contradicted my original stance. My original point focused on the advertising on shirts.
However, advertising - in general - can and often does work.

I have a Man United shirt - no advertising on the front - and have had it for about 10 years!Wintergreen wrote:I know I'm an old fuddy duddy but I don't really get the wearing of replica tops; for example if you go to Cartmel Races do you feel the need to dress like a jockey?

I also have a Barrow AFC shirt (it is in fact a training top devoid of advertising but with the club badge) and looks the biz!
No need to walk around like an Advertising Board, is there?..

So advertising on shirts in your opinion doesn't work, but in general it can and does. The Tomahawk Kid wrote:I think you'll find that Walkers had a huge sponsorship deal with Leicester - including the naming of the stadium.Londonblue wrote:

I'll take your word for it, but I know that whilst advertising does have an impact on individuals, it is very difficult to pinpoint the root source.

I think if someone can remember the fact that Walkers sponsored a football team in the 90's, then the advertising they put out worked.

Re: Kit manufacturer
Was it the 90s? I honestly can't remember...
I do remember buying Walker's Cheese & Onion crisps - I liked them not just for the taste and quality but because of the Blue/Yellow packaging.
The Salt 'N' Vinegar were sold in Green/Yellow bags.
Previously, most brands of Cheese & Onion crisps in the UK were packaged in Green & Yellow.
I remember, at the time, wondering why Walker's had switched to Blue/Yellow?
Mmmm...Colour and Advertising...now that's a topic!
We could draw this thread out throughout the pre-season...

Re: Kit manufacturer
Lineker was once presented on screen with a Leicester shirt complete with the crisps logo. Only it was spelt with an 'N' rather than an 'L'.
