On paper it's a good appointment & hopefully Coxy is happy to have someone to take on some of the stuff that gets in his way of managing the team as he'd like, But for him not to be in that meeting seems strange to me & it's an Odd interview.

Guess Tuesday will reveal all, Coxy is hugely important to BAFC.

This is going to be our strategy for idemtifying and communicating player targets. Cox can't do everything and there's no overlap of duties here. Cox / Ogden will have the final say player wise. Cassons will ok (or not) the financial framework of any deal. Seems pretty straightforward to me.

Yes but he now has a assistant.So why this promotion now?
Call me cynical but I think Cox will be on the move followed by the statement we will replace him by as good or better.
Maybe now Straker has gone it's time to purge Cox for asking for money for players

A football based appointment for on the pitch activities.

Paul Ogden isn't a footballing business man who knows how to cast an eye over every penny with regards income and expenditure. He is there to find players and get their contracts ticked off.

If you want an example of an actual footballing businessman look at Neil Joy at Fylde. He has experience as a chief exec from his time at Oldham where he over looked the clubs business operations for 4 years on a tight budget.

Commenting on the appointment AFC Fylde Chairman David Haythornthwaite said: “Neil has a wealth of experience and he has been involved with Oldham for many years. Not only does he know how to run a football club but importantly how to run one where every pound is maximised and costs controlled.”

That right there is what Barrow are missing at the moment.

Regarding the Q&A, I think this will now be held on Friday evening. The reasoning I think is so we can have people from the playing and management side in attendance with there being a home game the following day.

A lot of reasonable points in this thread plus the usual conspiracy theorists grasping at straws, some of which may be imaginary.

It will not have gone un-unnoticed at other clubs that Barrow have been so successful with some of their discoveries from lower leagues. It may be that questions have been asked about who might be Barrow's 'secret weapon' in the scouting role and then there's the possibility that Mr Ogden had already been approached from elsewhere with a similar offer with a short expiry date to that he has now accepted at Barrow.

If one element of the club's sustainability plan is to nurture talent, acknowledging that some of the more successful will attract offers from clubs further up the pecking order, then securing Mr Ogden's position is a shrewd business move as well as taking some of the workload from the manager - who may well be a target for other teams in due course.
