17/18 VNL - Barrow 0 - 0 FC Halifax Town
Re: FC Halifax Town (H) Match Thread
Did not watch the game but entirely predictable what Halifax would do. Quickly get 10 men behind the ball when out of possession and lump it up to that carthorse Denton. That's what Halifax do. They did it in the Conference North away from home, and were always going to do it here. It needed a bit of craft/nouse to beat them today, which Barrow were possibly lacking, having had such a short time playing together.

We ran out of ideas , steam and urgency.
Oh and of course the ref was shit.

Re: FC Halifax Town (H) Match Thread
We looked like a team who's been chucked together. As has been mentioned plenty we are really going to struggle for goals this season
Re: FC Halifax Town (H) Match Thread
Yusuff looked lively. Cokerline should have scored and looked quite good, Whyte was ineffective. We lacked width to supply the ball to them.HenneysKnee wrote: ↑Tue Aug 08, 2017 9:59 pm We looked like a team who's been chucked together. Those long throws were total shit, didnt threaten off them once and we didnt pick up any of the balls on the edge of the box that came from them.
Re: FC Halifax Town (H) Match Thread
Missed that cutting edge Harrison offers, although we had 3 great chances and probably should have taken one of them.
Yussuf was looking good and was lively in attack until he was penalised for fouls that if anything were on him.
Halifax played as expected, the only chances they had were due to slips from our defenders and a long range shot that clipped the top of the bar. They had a bit more about them when their number 7 came on towards the end. Not a bad point for them and they'll probably get a few more like that away from home this season.

As for struggling for goals - Yusuff not quite there yet for me, needs to be a bit stronger at times and his touch let him down a bit, positioning at times a bit all over the place (though that may be because he's not seeing the ball where he wants it so is coming looking for it). White as above pretty ineffective tbh, didn't do much of note or see much of the ball. Cockerline looked bright and willing to run with or without the ball when he came on, should have scored though!
Midfield - Really not sure what Asa Hall offers so far, he'll play week in week out though cos he's happy to sit back but I thought the game was crying out for Hughes to replace him and add a bit of bite earlier than he did come on. ARH excellent, really seems to have added to his game recently and another couple of excellent balls over which should have led to goals today. Gomes really does have an engine on him, runs and runs and runs and will be a real asset to the team as he settles.
Defence - Moussa solid as a rock, I really like the look of Dunne and Nieskens in his first appearance looked calm and assured as well. Can't be at all easy to play against Denton on a wet slippy night so the discipline in which they handled him was excellent. Barthram really should have scored the header and hit the target when through in the first half, maybe just about forgivable in that he's a right back!
Shape the biggest issue for me tonight, no wide men and no real running or attacking as a team.
PS referee was awful, might aswell start with the saying that every game!

Should've had that one sewn up by half time folks. Frustrating.
Still searching for the Young Soul Rebels

Re: FC Halifax Town (H) Match Thread
Team still need time to get to know each other, don`t know about this 3 at the back to do this you need both fullbacks to over lap jones doesn`t look comfortable playing in this formation he doesn`t know when to go forward or stay put, surprised Cox is playing this formation it`s complicated enough for experienced players never mind a team just thrown together, the problem we have is time, this team will take at least 6 or 7 games to develop an understanding and by then we could be struggling near the bottom.
Hall doesn`t look captain material to me you need to be strong and dominant and he seems neither!
still time will tell by then we should have a couple more signings and hopefully Harrrison back.

Thought we showed promise at times, a little more quality and we'd have been out of sight half time.
Early days yet, and a typical Halifax performance - how Denton never saw red for his elbow is a mystery, especially as he booked him.
Patience will be key - disappointing to hear some of the comments being banded about on the terraces. Ref was truly shocking - but we should be getting used to that ....
