Which is the main reason Cox left. He has a lot to answer for. Cant see it being Holt. Not confident in Micky Mouse either. Squad is poorer than last year upto now. Difficult replacing the 3 lads who went to league clubs. They had great seasons. However, I dont think we are miles off a decent 11. Doom and gloom after getting beat by K and W is fair enough. We'll get back to winning ways Saturday and then beat Tranmere.russell_anderson wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2017 9:04 amThe current team isn't going to finish 6th or above whoever is manager! The Real Slim a former member of this forum wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2017 6:36 am As pointed out to me by Steeley last night
When Holt was asked it was more of a " Yeah Id like to have a go at that" as if Barrow was a day out at Chill Factore.
Would he really have the contacts at this level ? Would he be able to work with what he has here? Because, like every other candidate, he certainly wont have the funds available to strengthen.
I can see Holt no higher than an Assistant Manager.Would Barrow finish 6th or above as demanded by the owner in what would be his first ever management role?. Im not sure.

Re: The Next Barrow Manager
Unfortunately I don't see Barrow winning either of the next 2 games. Draw at best on Saturday and i can't see us doing anything at Tranmere who look to be getting their act together.

So can the kids play for the performance centre and a local side ?philbrownstan wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2017 6:55 amThey club has the performance centre now from U11 to U18. I think the players get a pass to come to home games. They play for teams across the area so them coming from their team could bring their mates etc etc so that's a way of getting a lot of local kids in. The community often give out tickets to local schools as well, which should help get the younger fans in too.

Re: The Next Barrow Manager
The Grant Holt option is interesting. He admitted on live telly that he would fancy the job if offered it, and from his perspective Barrow would be a good place to start his managerial career. Would he be right for us? In some ways, yes. Paul Casson will see an opportunity here to excite and re-energise the fans by appointing a young manager who would be popular straight out of the box, as one of our favourite sons returning to the place where he arguably launched his playing career. It would freshen the place up considerably, generate good publicity, and we would (presumably) get a proven ex-Premier League goalscorer as a bonus. I don't know what kind of shape he's in currently, or how he is with injuries etc, but the prospect of seeing Holty in a Barrow shirt again, even in the occasional cameo from the bench, would be exciting. Through his media work, he comes across as intelligent and articulate. Any prospective employer would like that. As an immediate sugar rush, his appointment would be very tempting.
However....as much as I would love to see Grant back here as manager on an emotional level, I think it would be a risky strategy. He himself would not be taking the job with the intention of staying at National League level for long. He will be ambitious, and if he takes to management, we would be looking for another manager soon. If he doesn't take to management, and there are plenty of successful players who don't, we would also be looking for another manager soon, fighting relegation and probably in disarray. Remember the Brian Kidd fiasco?
No managerial appointment is without risk of course, but the next decision for Mr. Casson is a crucial one, because despite what anyone thinks about the club's off-field position, the on-field trajectory, hitherto continuously upward under his ownership, is on the verge of stalling. An experienced NL manager would be a far more pragmatic choice at this time.
That said....back in 1999, Kenny Lowe was given his first managerial job under similar "returning folk-hero" circumstances, and he did okay for us, over three or four seasons.

Well worth the owners having a chat at least even if nothing comes of it
Re: The Next Barrow Manager
Anyone know how much the manager job would pay ? Someone asked me at work and I have no idea how much managers get in our league ?
Re: The Next Barrow Manager
Holty been at Barrow Workington, Shrewsbury, Rochdale, Forest, Sheff Wed, Norwich, Villa(loan) and Hibs...
how can he not know anything about lower league football?..... Maybe even some other teams I forgotten...worth a punt in my eyes

Re: The Next Barrow Manager
He did move back to Norwich with his family from Carlisle and his Twitter account shows Norwich but I was interested to see his Tweet last night at 23:39 saying "just back from the game".
Could be back to a hotel in the north west or to at a relative's in Carlisle, I suppose.

Re: The Next Barrow Manager
I too did wonder exactly where he was referring to as home in that tweet last night.
I guess it was Carlisle given the timescale and in addition to having lots of family there he does also have a large property rental empire.
From what i.m told he would love to move back to Cumbria its the wife and kids that would be more of a problem
He did commute by Air to Edinburgh for a year when he was at Hibs and could do that to Manchester but theres a big difference between doing it as a player and doing it as a manager.

According to the Barrow Wiki page Darren was sacked after a 1-0 loss to AFC Fylde. Got to think there is a decent chance Moore will also depart after a 1-0 loss to AFC FyldeThe Real Slim a former member of this forum wrote: ↑Tue Aug 29, 2017 9:31 am Edmos record in his first season after 7 games
Re: The Next Barrow Manager
I think Grant Holt is a worth a shot. Our style of play would change for the better I think the players would look up to him and every manager has to start somewhere
Re: The Next Barrow Manager

I Disagree, Take enough time to bring the best person available who wants the job, not any quick knee jerk reaction & bring in someone just because they express an interest, we'd we worst off in the long run.
