Isn't that a newish pylon, presumably installed in conjuction with the telecoms company, rather than the original 1960s structure being refurbished?

The structural state of the original pylons has been a cause of increasing concern for a number of years and I doubt that the mobile company would have wanted to place expensive equipment on top of something that was unsound and would need to be replaced sooner or later.

Well, their's one thing for sure. The one pylon that remains will need maintaining over periods of time. Surely it would be more feasible now to put the transmitters on a normal galvanised mast rather than paying out for maintenance and man hours painting the pylon.

From memory, wasn't the new pylon erected at the expense of the telecoms company and BAFC receive ground rent for the mast being sited on our land?
If this is the case, then maybe the responsibility of maintaining that pylon falls with the telecoms company?

MarkMc, that "new" pylon has only been up for about ten years, unlike the remaining three that had been there since late 1963.

I agree with Blue Nige that it will look a bit odd if that one stays up . . . hopefully at least the top can come off.

There's a pub quiz question lurking for the years to come and the answer is Boreham Wood . . . the question being . . . one match in Barrow's history was played in front of EIGHT floodlight pylons, who were the opposition?
(And what a great match it was . . . . . but no extra points for that).

Very sorry to see them go, even though of course they had to. A part of the Barrow skyline, even from considerable distances, will never be the same. As a young boy I remember the incredible excitement back in '63 when first witnessing a Barrow Soccer match played under those pylons, with as many as 30 spotlights on each of them (and every one of the 120 operating . . . . . )

Can't see them getting all 3 pylons removed without Holker Street being closed to do the work. Reckon they'll be up a while yet

The cranes were parked on the grass outside near the next game board today, they fitted on there so can't see why it can't take it down.

What happened to those 22 huge lights we unloaded on that wet day from Everton for a nominal fee of around 250 quid...we all got soaked lifting them as some were full of water

Are they still under the stand?...could they be sold on now to a small club who could use them at profit.... or can we still use them?
We could be the brightest tools in the shed with all these on!!
