Re: New ground / renevation costs
One things for certain in that a new stadium needs to be more then just a football arena. Whether that is HS, Craven Park,Docklands development or somewhere else. Maybe a Virgin gym,Burger King,Office space and or private apartments inc. I'm sure this is something the owners are aware of and could bring to fruition in time but it would take time and patience. No one wants to see the end of HS but the future is not ours or so the saying goes.

Let's ask the powers that be , who supposedly run West Ham ,seems they got a decent deal with the London Stadium

Sorry if this has been answered already. BUT!Jo am back wrote: ↑Sun Sep 03, 2017 8:57 amHow was that financed ? Thats a lot of cash for there owner to have stumped up surely.
Fyldes new owner has financed their brand new stadium and also the redevelopment of their old ground into a new training complex. by leasing out 4 buildings all on 99 year leases to very high profile customers Aldi, BP, KFC and Starbucks. They also have an excellent bar/ function suite(Bradley's bar) and a lot of office space which is used by BAE for corporate events and training.
I hate being envious even sometimes jealous of our rivals but fylde are doing it right. We don't have that option at holker street but we do have a lot of thinking to do. What if?? We do go up.? Are we even allowed into the football league with our current facilities.

Re: New ground / renevation costs
I think current facilities are ok...just!
On a budget I would extend crossbar and perhaps open it all up qhen done...no loss of facilities or income whilst bwing done! Have a small stand extened outwards toward pitch along with neat small roof! Top of building perhaps seek grants for solar enwrgy to help carbon emissions and lower running costs of leccy and hot water etc.. flatten hs end and have a row of two story buildings that could be rented out for.shops catering etc? Perhaps contact food outlets kfc, burger king or pizza places? Have another neat compact twrrace behind along with roof? Over time, extend pop side roof amd tidy up steps etc and same on arrowsmith stand. Millions? I wouldn't think so... hundreds of thousands maybe? Imo we dont nees to move, we dont newd 20 thousand capacity plastic ground. .we are barrow and I [SwearFilter] love it!!

Like the idea of not moving , though based on tradition .As an ex season ticket at upton park, going there was a wonderful experience .Have been to new stadium 3 times , and it has no soul at all.I appreciate we have to move on but all change , doesn't always equate to progress for the fan
Re: New ground / renevation costs
As for new ground- Would fans welcome a serious look at the alternatives to Holker Street? A public forum with all sides of the argument discussed?. The pros the cons, what would be needed to make it happen, a look at the fortunes of other clubs who have moved over the last 10 years. What sort of costs are involved. Maybe get some fans from these clubs to share the experiences good and bad. It would at least help determine what our fanbase thinks. This would depend on the owners views, which to date, Paul Casson has not shown any indication a ground move is something in his plans or that it would happen under his ownership, but the thoughts must have crossed his mind. Who knows for certain.

Re: New ground / renevation costs
murphy this is a good example of where it doesn't always work. The Olympic stadium was built for athletics and the transition to a football ground hasn't worked well. Everything is too far from the pitch. Intimacy is lost- Just like Gateshead. New stadiums that are classed as souless all have a similar problem in that they have been built for practicality and with little thought to the fans and the energy generated by fans at games. Stands segregated by big gaps, stands far away from the pitch. It doesn't have to be like this with a new ground. I wouldn't want a ground like Fyldes- great though it may be for corporate facilities it's just not Barrow. A new ground for us would have to be right so all the spirit and memories of Holker Street can be recreated elsewhere. It doesnt have to be all bells and whistles and curved roofs, just a traditional ground stripped back to the very function of a great place to watch football. Terraces each end, close to pitch, one main stand, one popular side. CIrca Holker Street 1967, just new. If they can recreate this at Holker Street- great.Murphy2 3 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 08, 2017 2:17 pm Like the idea of not moving , though based on tradition .As an ex season ticket at upton park, going there was a wonderful experience .Have been to new stadium 3 times , and it has no soul at all.I appreciate we have to move on but all change , doesn't always equate to progress for the fan

Re: New ground / renevation costs
Good post, Jonty. The Holker Street of the Sixties had real character - a proper, traditional, football ground.
So, rebuild (as seems to be necessary) and re-roof the Holker End, bring the Popular Side terrace back down to pitch level, extend the stand to the full length of the touchline (to meet League capacity requirements), demolish the Crossbar and build a new covered terrace. Sorted! It's what clubs like Telford and Kidderminster have done, although the latter seem to want to move away from Aggb9
Who needs a soulless new ground?

Re: New ground / renevation costs
I hate to turn this into another "envious of Fyldes new ground" thread but for me there stadium didn't feel soulless, they've still kept it small enough to feel like a proper ground, great away end. If we did ever move to a new ground it's similar to what I'd like us to build (except with a covered stand behind both goals)
Re: New ground / renevation costs
So long as the Holker St end is terraced and roofed I don't care much about what else they do. I hate all seater stands /stadiums you just end up looking at someones back or standing up every time the ball goes near a goal

Why would we want be associated with businesses that don't give a [SwearFilter] about the nation's health? Just because Linaker is happy to suck Walker's Jersey Royals doesn't mean we have to try and mount the fast food greasy bucket.olbarrafancumbak wrote: ↑Fri Sep 08, 2017 12:19 pm Perhaps contact food outlets kfc, burger king or pizza places?

I have a lot of sympathy with this viewpoint bar the second half of sentence one.
