As much managerial experience as Don McEvoy,Colin Appleton,Vic Halom, Dave Bayliss and Darren Sheridan arguably a wide selection of our most succesful managers. Waste of time speculating. The decision is out of our hands. Lets face it Paul Cox was an appointment unexpected by all except those 'in the know'.

Nigel Clough went to Burton Albion as player manager at the age of 32. That went quite well.
Holt could be good for Barrow. No way of telling until if and when it happens.

Holt would certainly create a wee bit of interest and would probably put a few on the gate short term, whether he's good enough to get the results which could sustain that interest is questionable but then again, every new manager is a gamble.

If Holt has the right man (men) beside him and is confident about his abilities in man management and tactical nous then there is no reason why he cannot succeed.

There will certainly be no lack of passion for the job.

In 2008 Eddie Howe took up his first management role at Bournemouth when they were 10 points adrift at the foot of League 2. His rise was tremendous and he started from much the same position that Holt is in IF he is seriously being considered for the role.
Holt as Player-Manager with a seasoned Assistant (perhaps Moore) helping on the sidelines. That'd do it for me.
Also, at the other end of the league spectrum, Dalglish had knob-all management experience when taking over Liverpool.

Plenty of inexperienced managers cutting it in the football league. Could be a great appointment getting holt

To add the the pro-Holt fans case; how many "experienced" managers collectively did Luton/Oxford/Tranmere etc get through before finally getting promoted? Lincoln too; they took what was IMO a speculative punt on Danny Cowley (who had been successful at a lower level and had one good season with Braintree) and it paid off, Wrexham on the other hand tried the same with Kevin Wilkin who had a similarly successful season at Nuneaton but this didn't work out.

The point is that we could get the manager with the most experience and go down or we could take a leap into the unknown and give Holt a chance. Nobody can say with 100% certainty that he would be a success or a failure.

Spot on! Every manager is a gamble. Even ones who have done well at a club and move quite often fail at another club. No more risk with Holt than any other one. He could be anything between brilliant and hopeless. However, he has one positive thing going for him immediately and that is that he contacts with many league clubs and that is something that a lot of non-league managers don't have.

Martin Allen would be interesting, most recently with Eastleigh but has top coaching quals and has won promotion with Gillingham and Barnet. Southern based though.

If Holt were to get the job and it all started to go tits I'm sure Casson would act. As long as we ain't going down, why not give it bash?

It would be nice to start enjoying the football a little more if we aren't in a rush to get promoted.
