IMHO Employing Holty as our Gaffer is much more of a gamble than employing an experienced Manager or Ex-Manager purely down to experience in handling the varying enormous pressures they face.

Holt brings with him a already built in relationship with the club & our support, He understands the constraints our geographical isolation brings (ie) Training in Rochdale, Home games like Away games as the players travel into the area to play etc, Has the fans respect, comes from the county, Has a high profile etc

But he lives in the opposite end of the country now, commuting would be hell after a few months so would he be willing to relocate his settled family knowing full well he could be sacked at any time (As all Managers face) I assume his wife is from Carlisle so it might be an option, But if his wife n kids are settled into the area/schools/friends etc its a big ask.

Imagine the pressure he'd be under if he didn't start well as we are already very close to the bottom 4 & lets say in another 10/15 games time (If he was our Gaffer) & we were still a couple of places above the relegation zone or God forbid, in it....That's a tremendous amount of pressure for a Rookie Manager, Especially working for a Chairman who is on record wanting success & has already pulled the Trigger on a local well liked Manager, How quick would the support turn on him (See Bayliss) & how would he react to it all?

Also ATM there's a lot of unrest towards the club whatever they do! its pulled apart & dissected to death & questioned by many as they dont know what they are doing, The fall out would be huge if Holty was given the job then was failing badly & we are mired in a relegation dog fight.

He could come in & do brilliantly well & would then face the play off pressures & be up against wiley old fox, been there got the tee shirt types Gaffers & would be at a disadvantage in that tussle.

No, He's not for me as everything is a trip into the unknown for him it would be a very risky appointment.....Again IMHO.

EDIT to say, You just never know in Football though do you, Look at Dover, Lost a full side & had to replace them all & are still PT & flying high & we did similar but have the FT advantage & are pants atm Also TRFC largely kept everyone from the success of last season & are also pants....Tis a funny old game, You could argue its down the the caliber of the Gaffer as Dover have an astute tactically aware great man manager while TRFC has a guy who left Shrews before he was pushed & is struggling again now atm..

I know that Tyse, But players train for a couple of hours then go home (if they are family men) & told to rest up & only consider/deal with themselves....Managers put many xxxx more hours in & have to deal with every bugger involved & go watch other sides & have a phone stuck to their heads tighter than a teenagers.....Differents constraints mate.

Grant Holt's a Marra though; maybe he still has a strong hefting instinct. And he could always do a show on Radio Cumbria.

Or even better for us at FGH, Radio Lonsdale! With his experience he could do a show for our local hospital station. Only jesting 'Steel works' but do agree that Holty is well worth a punt at this level.

There is a difference.
He would however be very welcomed back here in non Marra land.

All good points but there are still massive ifs whoever comes in, what if we go for somebody who is even more experienced but even more settled in their current location and has to commute, what if we get an experienced manager who does not connect with the players, what if that manager takes us into the relegation zone, what if that manager had the fans against him, what if that manager failed in the play offs, etc. etc.

For me, any new manager is a gamble and we any inexperienced manager has to start somewhere and if Holt has the confidence inside him and has a well thought out plan with the players we already have then there is absolutely no reason he cannot succeed.
