17/18 VNL - Barrow 0 - 2 Macclesfield
Re: Barrow v Macclesfield Town match thread
Think the manager will learn more from this game than the Aldershot match. Desperate need for a midfield enforcer type player as Hall and Clements got the runaround. Not really impressed with either of them. I thought our forward play at the start of the game was good with Gomis, Yussuf and Harrison linking up well but after those early misses they took over the supply routes to them were stopped and the game went away from us. Chasing a game against a good team was always going to be a problem. However, we did keep going which is a positive. Felt a bit sorry for Bauress he looked lost at times has nice touches but his inexperience at this level was evident. As many said we need wingers crossing but a settled defence with our first choice full backs would help. I was disappointed but Macc were very good and if I'd been a neutral I would have enjoyed watching their football today! The Macc fans were their usual selves I really object to the Barrow is a racist town chant. I've spent a couple of uncomfortable games at their ground watching Barrow (a 2-1 win for us was particularly pleasing). I'm afraid I wasn't surprised with their attitude today but you have got to seriously question the way the stewards and police to some extend "dealt" with the various situations on the terraces today. I suppose Barrow will get a fine for allowing flares into the ground as I guess Macc will also. I saw enough of those flares at Atherstone!

Re: Barrow v Macclesfield Town match thread
Macc were the better team.
Midfield struggled and many of players kept slipping including Diarra in the build up to their first goal.
Gomis was as busy as ever trying o make something happen.
I was disappointed with Yussuf and Harrison although they struggled for service for most of the game.
White looked terrible when he came on and Holt has a long way to go until he is match fit.

We need a midfield enforcer to break up play and two quick wingers

Re: Barrow v Macclesfield Town match thread
White isn't this standard and he's got to be shipped out asap how/why was he put on before Holt? Holt should've come on at half-time. Everyone I was watching the match with thought the same. That included my daughter, John Motson she isn't. These coaches do all the badges the FA put in front of them yet where's the common sense?
Re: Barrow v Macclesfield Town match thread
Where would the "common sense" be in bringing Holt on at half-time? He was clearly a bit 'off the pace' and that was in a 10-minute run out.mulholland wrote: ↑Sun Nov 12, 2017 1:04 am White isn't this standard and he's got to be shipped out asap how/why was he put on before Holt? Holt isn't fit enough he will admit that himself no way should he of been put on at half time.
Add to that we have nobody to put the ball onto his head.
Grant is not the same player as he was 14yrs ago. Only way he will be effective for us is if we put the ball onto his head

Once Holty came on we had virtually ten players trying to pass to him as often as possible in some shape or form. Predictable for one and somewhat easy to deal with. We were clever enterprising and committed to a man against Aldershot, today some of those naiveties we have seen for the most part of the season were laid bare again.

Aldershot home
Hartlepool away
Woking home
These were three best performances of season so far imo
We didnt win all three games but two out of three
We have to replicate what we did in those games
We scored six goals in those three games only conceded one, surely we must look back at these games and try to learn what we did right in them to try and replicate in future games

Re: Barrow v Macclesfield Town match thread
Can't remember the last time we played so many passes sideways & backwards and we seamed a really reluctance for the full backs to go on overlap, also the lack of movement in open play not ro mention for throwings and other set plays was a concern, still it's only early I'm sure in time things will get sorted
Just my opinion

Re: Barrow v Macclesfield Town match thread
On another note, Yussuf Man of the Match yesterday? Were the 5 drinks allowed in corporate all absinthe?
To be fair though, there was an awful lot to be pleased about off the pitch yesterday (Kids tickets, Veterans etc boosting crowd, the programme, Holty and the way him and Pennock clearly are going to try hard to interact with the support.
But as everyone said, typical, big effort all round and we never ever top it off with a win. Life at Barrow.
Signs of progress though. Not sure if it's enough to bear a 12 hour round trip in a minibus next Saturday (fair play to those that do), but progress.

Yesterday was Barrow's biggest defeat of the season 1st time they've been beat by more than one goal.

Holt'll be fit enough to have played 45 minutes yesterday no problem don't know what you're going on about mori, White just isn't good enough.Moribund wrote: ↑Sun Nov 12, 2017 1:25 amWhere would the "common sense" be in bringing Holt on at half-time? Re: Barrow v Macclesfield Town match thread
I've expressed no opinion on White (and nor did he play 45 minutes), so that's a daft point to make. Holt came on for 10 minutes and was caught in possession a handful of times - but by your logic, he should have replaced Yussuf or Harrison at half-time.
