Re: FESTIVE BAFC MEMORIES
Lancaster away, can't remember the year. Lashed it down before / during and after. I seem to recall that Barrow played some nice football despite the conditions, and tonked them 4-0...

Re: FESTIVE BAFC MEMORIES
Remember Boxing-Day 1994 at home? Morecambe beat us 1-0 in a game played in torrential rain. Match should've been abandoned but I think this is the game that was significant for one thing, Morecambe proved themselves a far superior outfit for the first time in living memory and went on to achieve league status.

Re: FESTIVE BAFC MEMORIES
Looking at the last few posts what's the odds on it raining Boxing-Day?
Re: FESTIVE BAFC MEMORIES
I remember Hyde away on new years day as an event to forget. Slightly hungover with my good friend kev and driving father in tow the only thing that made it fun was hydes amazing pies and the fact I was [SwearFilter] again after 3 pints. We had a few there is think. Possibly Owen brown era? Sure someone threw a corner flag at a match official or something

Halifax 1966-67. One and only away trip my late dad made as a last minute replacement for a hungover mate. Game was still in doubt the further we went in the middle of a 'proper' winter. Looking down on the Shay as we approached there were banks of cleared snow surrounding the pitch. Game was non stop defying the conditions and we ran out 4-1 winners with George Smith running the show. Middle of an unforgettable season.

Thanks for filling in the many, many blanks!Kieran wrote: ↑Fri Dec 22, 2017 10:17 amJust after Christmas I think that one was, possibly early January. Players all had to wear trainers as the pitch was so hard. We won 3-0, Karl Marginson scored a screamer on the half volley and Alan Fahy scored a sublime chip over the keeper.John_Bucks wrote: ↑Fri Dec 22, 2017 7:57 am Top of the table clash against Leek Town that went ahead despite a white and frosty looking pitch maybe Christmas 96, Lee O'Keefe made it 2-0 to the good guys and then the Leek players started complaining about the state of the pitch, much to our delight...

Jumped out from pop side.. Brave lad, it was very cold...hahahahathegaffer77 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 22, 2017 6:04 pmShocking game, was televised, I was there, don't remember the streaker though! Great trivia question too.
Wonder if its anyone who is on here?
Did we manage the "final game of the century"? Never heard it mentioned on pointless or the chase yet!!
Re: FESTIVE BAFC MEMORIES
I was at that one. I think it was the season we were chucked out of the Conference for financial reasons despite winning at Kidderminster on the last day to keep us out of the bottom three.
I remember going to Gateshead on Boxing Day in 1990 and seeing us lose 5-1 in persistent drizzly rain. But that was nothing compared to the return fixture on New Year's Day where it just absolutely lashed down and the Holker St pitch more resembled a lake than a football field. We won that one 3-1 but I'll never know how that wasn't postponed/abandoned!
Pendant's corner: the much heralded "last match of the second millennium" against Winsford was never truly such, since the new millennium began on 1/1/2001, not 1/1/2000.

And I was at that one. The highlight, there was none on the pitch, was sharing Xmas cake and mince pies with the Gateshead fans as it passed along the row.
It all comes 'round again.
