Agreed although on the other hand they won't have the experience and they don't have to face the prospect of relagation as they're going back to their parent club. Just hope they're all the same calibre of yates and erlandsson

I don't know what the club travel arrangement is for home matches, but unless a training session at HS is planned in the morning of a home match I would have thought travelling together on the coach from an A590 meeting point would be better prep than individuals making their own way and staying over a full 24 hours before kick off. That 45 minute trip to Barrow is when the team gets collectively focused on winning the game ahead.

Think they need as much vocal support as possible on Saturday. Hug them, kiss them and tell them they are the bee knees. Or shout and scream and jump up and down till they get it. Whatever works. I dont care as long as the result is good.

Just wonder if that's part of the problem at home as the atmosphere is flat whereas away when you listen to away matches on the radio you can hear our stalwart supporters giving them encouragement.

Well I hope that's not true. I can say that those who go away (including us that live away these days) do tend to make a fair amount of positive noise (partly thanks to BarrowAberdeen it has to be said). I genuinely believe that away fans are appreciated and we do often get a visible reaction from the players. However, I can fully appreciate that watching them at home this season has been no cake walk for the regular supporter.

I've always felt that HS itself is responsible for creating a certain type of tension which can communicate itself to players of both sides. It can be a powerful ally for home teams who are used to this as long as they approach the game in a certain mood and play in a certain way. This can be enhanced when its picked up by fans. On the other hand I also believe it can on occasion negatively impact on teams that play with less intensity or confidence. That's us at home at the moment, so the atmosphere and surroundings dont help that much.

Before anybody calls Derek Acorah, I'm not suggesting any voodoo at play. Simply that the HS atmosphere gets into players heads for some reason and when we have a lack of balls or leadership on the park it seems to make the situation worse. Its also very difficult to break out of.

Well I wont be crying over any of our footballers and their bills. They will be earning more than the majority of our fans for doing very little. They probably spend more than the price of a room in the betting shop. Ferried to work (away games) on an executive coach can't be bad. As for travelling to Barrow, what about Spender. the Pearson brothers etc? They travelled from Wales and always put in a full shift, and not always getting paid on top of it. Then there was the goalkeeper who travelled from Hastings setting off on a Friday and arriving back home on Sunday. Clark Masters. Great lads and fan friendly.
This current lot can all get lost as far as I am concerned.

A very good point Elaine. Grant Holt once stayed at my house in Preston as him and a lad I was studying with played for Barrow. He still owes me 20 quid Holt does. Back to the point.....there was a group of them used to meet at the tickled trout, drive up to games etc and do it that way. How to get to your employer of choice is down to the player surely? 25 quid for a room? I will have that if I'm taking in 1k a week for being shite. But I have to drive to Barton from chorley to be paid 9 quid an hour to teach kids. I could moan, but it's a job.

Oh and Steve is hitchhiking the length of our great country to raise money for kids who can't always get to games.

It was a good night out in fairness Elaine. My good friend Steve Gill lived with me and was close to the first team. Grant was travelling south for a game and stayed. In fairness we all went out and got [SwearFilter]. I reminded him at Northwich when the police allowed dogs to bite you! He smiled and said "no worries boyley"

Interest on his wages over time could be immense for me

Whitty it's exactly that. As an exile I don't like to comment too much but from what my good friends (including Adam on rl doing a great job) say this team needs ripping apart and starting again. I don't think we have the money to get to the dizzy heights of LG 1 so why not just enjoy trips to Bamber bridge?

Not able to get to Barrow last night but it sounded grim on the radio. Unusual for me to hear live radio commentary on a home game - mixture of Cumbria and Lonsdale coverage.

A few thoughts:
1) Credit to all who turned up on what sounded a very unpleasant night.
2) Surprised at the negativity of fans heard on the background microphone right from the start. Didn't sound like support. Did the commentator turn down the microphone after ten minutes or so? (Good move to do so in the hail storm, too!)
3) Negativity later on sounded to be well-justified. John Goodwin pronounced it dreadful; Andy Wood thought it was the worst Barrow performance in the seven years he has been covering the clubs matches.
4) If the players were on site four hours before the opposition arrived then having not stayed overnight wouldn't be a reason for a poor performance.
5) The club has apparently been using the Hughes/Harvey dividend to provide overnight stays before home league games as the professional thing to do (alongside introducing appropriate food at training, etc). In his BBCRC after-match interview, the manager - who sounded flat, embarrassed and annoyed - said that due to short notice it wasn't possible to do this for last night's match but the players could choose to do so for the night before and after the match for £25 per night (given the price of midweek accommodation in Barrow, presumably subsidised by the club). He implied that all were doing so after the match before pre-planned training today (Wed) but only two had availed themselves of the opportunity the night before. He suggested this reflected badly on their professionalism, which I thought a little harsh but it may have been the final straw for him in respect of certain players.
6) Cox at the match. Obviously wanting to look at Saturday's opposition for Guiseley. Couldn't be any other reason for being in Barrow on a mid week evening again, could there?

Why don't the club demand that anyone involved in the club (players / managers) live in Barrow? Surely there must be enough footballers who would be willing to up sticks and pay, say £150 per month (out of their £4000 / £6000 per month salary) to share a house with two, three, four other players? Is there really no facilities (gym, 3G / 4G pitches) in the town that players can use for training? Genuine question, haven't lived in Barrow for 20 years so really don't know. You'd get:

Players that associate with the town and care about the club and people of Barrow
Potential open training sesssions (Werder Bremen do it and loads of people watch the team train, obviously it wouldn't be on such a scale but would give people a feeling of being closer to the players, especially kids). Creates transparancy and lets the public see how hard the players work at training, etc.
Loads of opportunities for school, hospital visits, give out tickets, drum up support, become role models and idols.
Players available to help coach youth / development teams (and maybe earn their badges, making it a bit more attractive?).
Training in Barrow - Possibility of bringing on young, local players who can train with experienced first team players, which would long term get more 'locals' in the team (how often have potentially useful local lads given up due to travelling hours to train with the first team and then getting zero game time so give up?)

This is off the top of my head in a couple of minutes but lots of these things would bring in extra income simply due to kids (but also adults too) feeling more connected to the club and attending games without the club spending an extra money or even having any new ideas!

It might be unrealistic to have a team full of locals competing in the CN but surely it must be feasible to have a team based in the town, with the goal of bringing on young kids to make the level at some point as they are exposed to it? If the club is paying a fortune for mercaneries, why not spend the same money for people who actually want to be in the town with a plan to make it a real local team that the town can be proud of and feel part of, even if not all the players come from the town or county?
