Pennocks Axe Gone Blunt

Post by Rigger » Wed Feb 07, 2018 2:17 pm

"What it has done is made up my mind on a few things – there will be a few faces coming in and a few faces going out "- ADY PENNOCK

In since then:
A keeper on a permanent deal
A loan Striker
A youth loan CB

Out since then:
Adi Yussef ( now scoring for relegation rivals)
Moore - A keeper who was 2 games away from an automatic contract extension.

A net of 1.

Its clear to see this squad isn't good enough and is operating on quite a few loans and non contract players. It is missing a lot of quality in key areas which most fans are aware of.
In terms of recent form Pennock isn't a million miles away from matching Mickey Moores permanent record as Barrow manager. Fair enough Pennock had a honeymoon period with a good few results in but in terms of the last 7 games Barrow haven't pulled out a victory.

Its true that Pennock can only work with what he has got however you only have to look back at the squads Paul Cox and Daz and Dave inherited to see that good managers can take bad Barrow sides and make them play better.

3 points from 18 out of the last 6 league games should have the alarm bells sounding. Solihull are steadily chasing and their recent form looks like this (WWDWWW). A win for them at Ebbsfleet and a loss for Barrow at home to Hartlepool will see them in the relgation zone

We already know. You should consider on one of those stock market message boards. Trying to bring the share price down. They use the same methods as you.

Whatever anyone thinks of Paul Cox (the rumours still abound) and his style of football, last season we achieved our highest ever position in Non League football. And IF Paul Casson had given him the money he requested for new players in January 2017 we may have been in the Football League.

What's happened since his departure has been nothing short of a disaster!

We were being viewed as the Big Time Charlies of Non League Football after Paul Casson's take-over. We're now being viewed, once more, as a tin pot club.

Where did the money go from the sale of our best players? I'm sure there will be the 'chancer' accountants who will state that Mr Casson has done this and he has done that...whilst we all ask: Done what?
He certainly hasn't bought quality players to replace those we lost - and that's the fundamental reason for the mess we're in.

Adi Yussef scored two goals for Solihull Moors on his debut - the sign of a happy striker.
I'd love to have a conversation with Adi (off the cuff) and ask him one simple question:
What's wrong at Barrow AFC?
I wonder if he'd spill the beans... :?:
When we set sail across the seven seas,
There was Captain Dan and Billy Bones and me...
and the Tomahawk Kid

Feel free to go along on Friday and ask why we aren’t signing players when we have the worst squad in the division; you’ll get fobbed off but at least you’ll have asked

Pennock often says ''That they are all a wonderful bunch of great lads''. Gives them days off from training. O/K only if performing.
I rather feel they need all the days, and drills at set pieces, free kicks, moves.
This may improve some, although one cannot make a silk purse out of a sows ear.
I am not impressed to date with the overall quality of Pennocks signings. Action now, to bring some quality to the team, or I regret very much relegation beckons.

I can only echo what someone said above AP isn’t too far off MM form and IF!!!!!!!!! Ady’s Run is worse than mickeys that will all but guarantee relegation. I had hope that he could turn this squad into a good one that hope was built on the assumption he would of signed an old stalwart defender in January to sure up our defence until the end of the season. That never happened. We needed 1 if not 2 solid defenders and we signed a young inexperienced albeit well recommended Centre back. We need a goal scorer wrong we need our goal scorers to do what they are paid for. Lord Byron is fraud Byron for me this season and letting adi go for me was stupid. Especially as he is scoring at Solihull 🤔
I have zero faith in our squads ability to survive this relegation fight. I hope I am wrong but all I am relying on are the teams around us dropping more points than us. All whilst watching fylde push for the playoffs.
All barrow though aren’t we!

Really don't think Adie is working with the sharpest axe in the world in terms of support from his employer and line manager poor blokes hands seem to be tied

You mentioned Paul Cox taking a Barrow side and making it better.
It does not always happen like that though does it.
Since Paul Cox became manager of Guisley, despite spending a fortune and having double the size of squad Barrow have, Cox has done abysmal.
In fact, despite playing 9 (Nine) more games than Pennock has managed Barrow for, Cox's Guisley have picked up 1 fewer point.
Cox's league record at Guisley is played 22,  won 3, drawn 8, lost 11 - points 17.
Pennock record at Barrow is played 13, won 5, drawn 3, lost 5 - points 18.
Both are not great records I know but Pennock has not had/been given the resources that Cox has.

Regardless of if it does or doesn't guarantee success. Its clearly now working now.
It didn’t for Mickey Moore and he was sacked after 11 games.

Pennocks record is similar in recent form and hes had time to get rid and bring players in. A luxury Mickey wasn’t afforded.

Agree about the overuse loans but Moore wasn't great and Yussuf, rightly or wrongly flattered to deceive. Players doing better for others is a time honoured Barrow tradition and nowt to do with Pennock, or Cassons.

Yussuf 2 goals in his one game for Moors can't compare with his hat trick for us 😉

What happened to 7th is not good enough!!!!!! Oh how foolish we were. Ill still back the side but it is becoming tiresome. I have been to about 10 home games this season and wouldnt be able to pick half this side out if I walked in on them with my mrs!!!!!! Team of nobodys. Remember we were promised football league. It seems a long way off now!!!!

Erm no.

Just saying he is starting to have the same record as someone who was sacked.
