Re: Pennocks Axe Gone Blunt
One more time....and it seems to keep getting missed. Paul Cox was actively looking for another job while still under contract here. This is BEFORE all the Januarygate pure speculation.
Why would any football club owner back his manager when he knows he's been touting himself around bigger clubs? Oh, go on then Coxy, here's the stupid amounts of money you say you need to keep us in the play-offs. Honestly, it doesn't matter if you [SwearFilter] off in February to -------- (fill in your own clubs..) and we then have to get a new manager who doesn't want them players.
Yep, that makes sense doesn't it?

In this case its quite possibly because he wants his team in the football league regardless of who manages them. 7th isn't good enough Ian.
Didn't that happen over pre season and the start of the season though? Surely Casson trusted him enough to build a new squad over the summer and spend his money again? Isn't that the situation the new manager finds himself in now? Surely if Cox was worth backing to "build a squad with no real weaknesses" in the summer he was worth listening to with half the season gone as the club were in their best position to get out of the league!Oh, go on then Coxy, here's the stupid amounts of money you say you need to keep us in the play-offs. If it was that bad and IF he was touting himself to other clubs to the point of him not being considered trustworthy of being backed with funds to secure a higher level of football then why was Cox not allowed to join Hartlepool when they came asking? ( the club missed out on a nice of sum money by him resigning months later) New manager, new start, new budget eh? Why keep him on for the next season? Why have that fan meeting saying he how important Cox was?

You should know the answer to that a former member of this forum....if you don't, ask him! and the reply will do nothing to back your argument up.
Now that was funny, I knew what one of the first questions would be to Coxy at that meeting (as we all did really) "Is there any truth in you being linked to the Hartlepool job Paul"......I absolutely loved listening to his response knowing full well what he'd been trying to do. I think it'd be safe to say his answer wasn't exactly truthful. The stool he was sat on stood up to the squirming very well.
Anyway, no one will ever get you to change your viewpoint on all these things so I'll leave it at that mate.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.
Re: Pennocks Axe Gone Blunt
So you are trying to say Paul Cox was actively looking for jobs elsewhere so Casson wouldn't back him in the risk they would lose him . A job offer came in for him in the summer from Hartlepool and Casson tells us he wasn't allowed to go and kept him on board but now you are indicating Paul Cox seemingly had a big say in him staying?spirit of 1990 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 08, 2018 12:47 pmYou should know the answer to that a former member of this forum....if you don't, ask him! and the reply will do nothing to back your argument up.
Why so many changes of mind from both parties?
You know that doesn't make sense don't you? Surely if what your saying is true then for both parties it would have made sense to let him go and negotiate a payout to Hartlepool.
That would have given Casson the chance to get a new manager in to bring his own squad in for the remainder of pre season. Cox would have got his wish of getting a job he was supposedly actively seeking.
If that had been done maybe it would have helped avoid , i don't know. Several resignations, a poor appointment leading to a 2.5 year pay out and a massive relegation battle.
The second part is an odd part. If Cox was lying then surely Casson was as well because they seemed in agreement over the situation at the time.
If Casson knew Cox was wanting out why did he stick with him over the summer and let him build a squad? Surely if Cox wanted out and Casson knew, he should have been having words over his commitment to the cause. Rather than backing him to spend his money over pre season.

What seems mystifying to me is WHY Paul Cox would have been looking for other jobs?Rigger wrote: ↑Thu Feb 08, 2018 1:01 pmSo you are trying to say Paul Cox was actively looking for jobs elsewhere so Casson wouldn't back him in the risk they would lose him . He'd built a team here that had gone on a extensive unbeaten run, knocked a league club out of the FA Cup and had reached the tip of the play-off zone. If we'd been promoted into the FL then his CV would have looked very impressive! Surely, THEN would have been the time for him to depart to a bigger club? There would have been plenty of clubs headhunting him...
It doesn't seem feasible that Cox would have been wanting out at that particular stage in the season. It does seem feasible, however, that he wanted out because of the reluctance of our owner to release funds for new players to obtain promotion.
But what you're saying, Ian, is that Paul Cox had wanted out long before he'd asked for money for new players. And that's what I find mystifying. Why would a manager wish to leave a club he'd taken to the tip of the promotion zone? Surely, he'd want to complete the task? Did Paul Cox and the others who left the club know something we don't?

+1 for the excessive exclaiming.baz97 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 08, 2018 3:12 am What happened to 7th is not good enough!!!!!! Oh how foolish we were. Ill still back the side but it is becoming tiresome. I have been to about 10 home games this season and wouldnt be able to pick half this side out if I walked in on them with my mrs!!!!!! Team of nobodys. Remember we were promised football league. It seems a long way off now!!!!

Re: Pennocks Axe Gone Blunt
He applied for the Tranmere job in the September, surely too early on to be unhappy about proposed January spending.
Let’s be honest, we were a means to an end for him. As soon as any bigger clubs came up, he was going to go for them which is fair enough.
There’s probably several people who, with the benefit of hindsight, may have acted differently last season. Ho hum.

I can't be arsed splitting and answering every question from your post a former member of this forum, as we've often done before....it'd go on and on and we'd never get anywhere. People can make their own minds up but you know the answers to a lot of the questions you are asking already so I don't know what you're trying to gain by it.

Tbh I can’t say I blame him - bigger club, better facilities, probably an easier commute, bigger budget, easier to attract players etc.The Tomahawk Kid wrote: ↑Thu Feb 08, 2018 3:05 pmI didn't know that. Re: Pennocks Axe Gone Blunt
Kind of irrelevant what cox did or didn't do or how his team is now doing.
Moore was shite, pennock isn't much better, and we have a pretty dreadful squad. How does the club go forward? I think we may just stay up but if we go down I can't see a way back up instantly without throwing a lot of money at it.

Re: Pennocks Axe Gone Blunt
Spirit, at that pre-season fans meeting, Casson stood there and told us all what happened with the Hartlepool approach for Cox. He told us he was woken up in bed by some bloke from Hartlepool who wanted Cox but they had no money to pay his buyout clause etc. He stood there for about 10 minutes and told us this story.
