If I remember correctly the fans wanted him to stay at the time and were happy that Paul Casson had held out and kept him. So maybe there was this to think about at the time and he was hoping for a payment to justify Paul Cox going. The fans would have been up in arms had he gone for free. The poor guy can't win!spirit of 1990 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 21, 2018 9:58 amI'll give you that one, he should've let him go but hindsight is a wonderful thing isn't it? It doesn't change the fact that he'd been doing what people now know he'd been doing going back to pre-Christmas. I remember having a phone conversation with Paul Casson last year about just that question, not that I'm letting you into what was said but it sort of made sense as things stood at the time.northscaler wrote: ↑Wed Feb 21, 2018 8:24 am
Strange that. If Casson knew "what Cox was up to" , then why stick with him over the summer? If he was that untrustworthy, surely he should have cashed in when Hartlepool showed interest and got the manager he wanted to take the club forward.
If he was this non league Pep Guardiola that you seem to think he is how come he was sacked at Mansfield, left/pushed? at Torquay, left/pushed at Barrow and sacked at Guiseley? not great on a CV is it? Three of those clubs gave him for the most part what he always says he needs - money, but it still wasn't enough to save him.

If youve supposedly got a rotten tooth then it'll fall out after a while if you don't treat it. If you take the choice to get rid of it earlier then you'll save time and hassle over the long run in your mission for a perfect smile. To not fully trust a manager and let him stay on for the most crucial part of the season where the squad is built, is a very strange business decision.spirit of 1990 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 21, 2018 9:58 amI'll give you that one, he should've let him go but hindsight is a wonderful thing isn't it? He won the league with Mansfield and had he not done that then they wouldn't be a football league team right now. He had a big budget yes, but that is needed to get out of this league (someone tell the owner) and was he was successful.
Torquay, Barrow and Guiseley are all historically lower table sides.
He actually left Torquay after not being paid and doing the job free of charge for a month. I hardly think he was to blame for that.
The fact he turned Barrow from a seriously relegation threatened team to a play off chasing, FA CUP third round team was him being a good manager. Smart signings with the help of Ogden, a simple (fair enough it was boring) style of play resulted in success and the sun shone from his arse for all Barrow fans. At Barrow he was sold the clubs ambitions and everything was rosy.
From January last season and onwards however those ambitions were realised to be false. Simple as that. Hence why the serious investment has seemingly tightened from that point onwards. Who knows what could have happened had he not had to rely on the cheaper option of youth loans.
Its clear to see now with the backing Pennock isn't getting that it wasn't Cox wanting the world and everything in it. It was clearly the owner tightening up. It happened in January last year, it happened over pre season, its happening now. A lot of folk on here said that it was Casson being smart with money when recent events are starting to suggest that the funding might not actually be there.
(one instance for example. Ask yourself why a defender is wearing number 8 on his back just shortly after ARH (no.8) left. Odd number for a defender)
He signed players for free and they got sold for huge profits at this level and the money from those deals (£250k) wasn't reinvested into the playing squad. (seriously, where is that money?)
Guiseley was obviously a very strange period and fair enough he really hasn't done a good job there at all. Hes tried to move them into full time by signing a full time squad whilst keeping on the part time players. It really hasn't worked out for both parties.
Jose Mourinho has been sacked by Chelsea twice and left Real Madrid by mutual consent. That doesn't mean his CV isn't any good.

Re: Whats happening to our club
Noticed another club in our league had next year’s season tickets on sale already at discounted rates and it got me thinking (albeit this would require the club forward planning which doesn’t happen) Why not make the last game of the season £5 entry for everyone and everyone who comes in gets a flyer advertising season ticket prices for next year including details of early discounts etc plus details of the new kits if we have them? Really do think we are going to struggle to attract fans back this summer
Re: Whats happening to our club
Why isn't Casson in the kitchen knocking up a batch of Meat and Potato pies ?

Re: Whats happening to our club
You'll only hear something from the club when its asked questions. There is pretty much zero pro active outreach to the fans. To most fans kits, season tickets don't apply to them and they aren't really that bothered. To some and more importantly to potential new fans , seeing news or offers on social media can be the difference to them turning up on a match day.HenneysKnee wrote: ↑Wed Feb 21, 2018 10:35 am Noticed another club in our league had next year’s season tickets on sale already at discounted rates and it got me thinking (albeit this would require the club forward planning which doesn’t happen) Why not make the last game of the season £5 entry for everyone and everyone who comes in gets a flyer advertising season ticket prices for next year including details of early discounts etc plus details of the new kits if we have them? There is a distinct attitude of "come to the club, because we need you to be here" and a " We tried that once and even put a post on Facebook once 3 hours before the game and still no one turned up". The club needs at least one experienced , professional, business minded , football person involved with the day to day running of the club.

Re: Whats happening to our club
William Gallas was a centre half and wore number 10 once
khalid boulahrouz also a defender wore number 9
Kanu a centre forward wore number 4
Clutching at straws there if you are trying to use a number a player wears on their shirt as a reason for cutting costs

Think about it. Maybe even go and have a closer look at the shirt next time you are near. See whos name(s) are on the back of itAdam29 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 21, 2018 10:47 am William Gallas was a centre half and wore number 10 once

Upsetting scenes.
I reckon we don't even wash the shirts to save on cash.
