October 2016. A 4-0 televised home dismantling of Eastleigh. Playing wise, everything was right, quality allied to attitudinal excellence.

I recall Liam Hughes chasing down an opposition defender at 3-0 up with 10 minutes left as if the title was on the line. It typified morale was evidently high. We were flying. It became 20-odd unbeaten, the best record in the country, we were proud of our doubtless expensively assembled team. Promotion, probably prematurely and counter-productively, was a real possibility. The downturn of 2017 probably had multiple causes, I will not speculate. But, progressively bereft of on field quality, with limited infrastructural improvements to support or compensate, we faded to the apathetic shambles of that limp final day home defeat to Chester. Watching us last season was bloody hard. The rudderless performances transmitted to the fans - for me, the players devoid of purpose and passion, it became a real effort to attend in a way it never was even amidst the lower table struggles of the Bayliss and Sheridan era.

This season’s budget will be lower. If that’s half-arsed cost-cutting, principally for financial recouping, we’ll struggle soullessly again. Conversely, if these restrictions are placed determinedly, with genuine intentions to sustain a Conference National club, limited but effortful, reawakening the spirit of the battling Bayliss era, with players of the requisite fortitude, then we will not leave games flatly downhearted as was so frequent this year.

Somehow we survived, dredging out away points. From what I saw at home, I cannot fathom how; we deserved relegation. But we stayed up. Not for us trips away in front of 250–odd - Stockport and Chester have those. We’re still a Conference National club. Let’s be relieved for that unlikely mercy and search for the spirit of our past.

Presumably Makoma has been offered a new contract either because of potential or because, due to his age, if he didn't wish to remain then a new club would need to compensate Barrow?

Nothing has been said about being part time. I think it’s crucial for all the things he wants to do, proper academy, youth etc, that the club needs some thing to remain, one is being a full time operation.

Plus we still have full time players on contract, don't know how that would work.

Looks to me like thee Casson is majorly pi**ed off that the mighty Silks have gone up with a 10£nner in the bank whilst he's just pi**ed 4million away on a boiler

Apologies if this has been covered or mentioned on other threads but with Casson's statement and the apparent lack of certainty over the owners commitment to the club i was wondering if any discussions had been had in and around the trust regarding what would happen if Casson pulled out of the club. Would the trust step in? and if so, would it be prudent to begin a fund (100 people donating £10 a month etc. for this sole purpose).

I was listening to Radio Cumbria sport at 6 o'clock tonight. Andy Wood, apart from saying that a Fylde fan he was talking to was "laughing his head off" at our predicament, also said that "Gavin Skelton gets on well with the Cassons" !.
Can anyone throw any light on this ???.

He followed it up by saying they need to appoint a 'Yes man' because interference in team matters by the Cassons was not uncommon. That was the most disturbing 'takeaway' I got from this evening's programme.
