Where will we finish
Re: Where will we finish
The thought of another season like last is making fans cautious. There is no way Evatt will put up with that. I think we’ll be ok, with a marked improvement and a lower mid table finish 14-17. Give us goals!

Deep down it’s all about hope, and in sport hope has never been a strategy.
As we all know no one has a clue what’s going to happen. The ones with big egos will “say I told you so” if it all goes pear shaped later into the season, and they’ll keep quiet if it doesn’t. I would like attractive footy to be played and that we stay up; keeping Pedro off the subject of not reinforcing the squad two seasons ago would be a bonus.
Not going to mention the lack of reinforcements, quite clearly he never brought in the equal or better players he promised hence our relegation struggle.Hitthebar22 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 29, 2018 12:02 pm There’s always the danger of opinions being misconstrued as facts, particularly at this time of the year.

This season he has been more honest by stating a reduced budget and no new stadium.
The players brought in are all lower division players and salaries and expenses will have been drastically cut.
If we survive in this league I will be happy.
So let's look forward to our first game and hope it's not our own Waterloo in terms of the result!
Re: Where will we finish
They start things off pretty intensively in the National League! 7 games in August, and we face the 3 teams who top the odds for the league - Salford and Chesterfield seem way out with most bookies, and Leyton Orient are 'best of the rest'. It'll be useful to get 4 points out of our opening 2 matches against Havant and Halifax - if we don't we could easily be bottom by the end of the month. Equally, some good results might set us up nicely for a favorable run of fixtures in September.
By the end of August if we find ourselves in the bottom 5 or 6, I don't think we should be too concerned; equally if we're mid-table then I'd feel quietly confident. I'll be worried if we're down at the bottom after our two home matches against Maidenhead and Gateshead towards the end of September.

Re: Where will we finish
Need to get as many points on the board as quickly as possible. Our squad is pretty thin so injuries etc will always hurt us. Would love a win opening day but I doubt it.
Stood behind Ray Wilkie for years. Best education I ever had.

I think it’s going to be a very long, tough season this year. I am not feeling very confident. 23rd.

Recruitment seems to be mixed, rookie manager and with the seemingly unique way we operate.... I’ll be happy to stay up, tbh.

Lets just support the team and hope for the best. One game at a time forget about first 10 games etc....

It has been said that the team who started at Bradford won't be far off the team that starts against Havant. Yet there were nine players (5 on the bench 4 injured) who could arguably have a major impact on the campaign ahead
Dixon and Pollard - keepers one known one with potential.
Bartram - An enigma who could be vital if he's up to it.
Molyneux - Experienced full back frozen out by Cox at Guiseley. Could feasibly allow Dan Jones to move into midfield.
Wilson - Over 400 FL games and according to RC signed in competition from Carlisle (played under Sheridan at Oldham).
Burgess - If he signs another promising youngster. FA Youth Cup winner at Wigan, helped Chorley to the CN play-offs on loan.
Turner - Another with point to prove yet to fulfil early career promise.
Blyth and Mulholland - Hindered by pre-season injuries could be anything from flops to diamonds.
So the difference between a paper-thin squad and one of full strength (with possibly more additions) is striking
My hope is that we are underestimated by opponents and give 100 per cent to pull off a few shocks. But I've learnt over the decades not to expect anything and just hope for safety before the last half dozen games.

Easy tiger. Just think Havant and W will be a tough opener as they are newly promoted and full of confidence. JeezJo am back wrote: ↑Mon Jul 30, 2018 11:02 pmDo you read other posts?
