Barrow v Gateshead
Re: Barrow v Gateshead
No Tez, it’s not negative, fans fully appreciate what the Casson family has brought to the club, but your point about the club’s existence and getting the Barrow public on board are scenarios that are faced before Casson and post Casson and need to be addressed. Rather now than if / when this happens.

Things have never been so good at this club. I can't believe people can look at what is happening as negative. Replica shirts are in on time, the toilets on the popular side were knocked down, we have a young side and a young manager. An ambitious owner who has intelligent family members running the club for when he can't. All people want seem to want to do is moan and complain, never happy. Call yourself fans!

Whenever there's a new account I always find myself trying to workout who it's a multiple of.

Re: Barrow v Gateshead
Yes they have - when we were top of Division 3 in the EFL.
When Steve Vaughan came to the club and started putting serious money in.
When the Keens were behind Daz and Dave.
When Paul Casson first came to the club five years ago and started outlining his plans.
They were good times which didn't last unfortunately and as there was no contingency planning things took a turn for the worse; must history keep repeating itself?

Re: Barrow v Gateshead
Our history is a series of short peaks and long troughs. 'Never having it so good' is itself a very subjective term. To me feeling that you are having it 'good' includes what's happening both on the field and off the field and has lasted longer than a flash in the pan. This is not a feeling based on moments but on continuity. Great periods have been very rare in our entire history - League or non-League. No more than a couple of seasons on a couple of occasions in a history of 100 years+Wintergreen wrote: ↑Sat Sep 29, 2018 1:06 pmYes they have - when we were top of Division 3 in the EFL.

In terms of your list wintergreen agree that for anybody old enough to have been there 1966-1968 we probably the best years in the clubs history. Wouldn't class anything involving Vaughan as 'having it good'. His character and connections were known about from day 1. The Keens brought dedication and stability to the club and the FA Cup/F A Trophy years under Daz n Dave were certainly memorable. But they were also years where our inability to compete financially with our peers was also painfully apparent. Surprised you haven't included the Wilkie period in your list as that's the period I personally remember as being our 'happiest' in the non-league era.
As for the Cassons, their plans created great optimism and on the pitch performances initially created satisfaction and anticipation. But they have as yet been able to follow through and deliver either on or off the pitch. They shouldn't really be vilified for this as neither McCullough, Vaughan or the Keens were able to deal with intractable problems off the pitch (yes mainly the ground) so probably deserve to rank no higher. The problem with the Cassons is that unlike the others they gave every hope and expectation that the issue might be solved. False expectation. You reap what you sow.
So the day we can say that we've played good competitive attractive football for at least two years without seriously flirting with relegation and we can have the discussion sat in a decent bar (no offence x-bar) embedded in a all seater stand as part of a ground that doesn't heavily feature brise block walls is in my opinion the day we can actually say that we have 'never had it so good'. Dream on.

As far as I am aware, everything mentioned on the last 2 pages has been discussed with no conclusion before (several times). Also, I fail to understand what any of it has to do with Barrow v Gateshead.

The subject matter has not been Barrow v Gateshead since Page 4; most of us can cope with that or choose not to join in.prague bluebird wrote: ↑Sat Sep 29, 2018 2:54 pmWintergreen wrote: ↑Sat Sep 29, 2018 2:47 pm

Re: Barrow v Gateshead
I agree with Wintergeen & Jonty on this thread.
Would it be possible the TRUST or a n other run a money raising scheme similar to the previous ‘Raise the Roof’ from many moons ago.
With the various grants on offer where they match the clubs money on any Ground Redevelopments this could be very possible especially if PC offers to match our monies raised pound for pound.
Something like this back of a fag packet idea if thought through better & structured right could see 3 quid provided for every pound the fans raise.....Surely a win/win for every Barrow fan...

So so negative. Disgusting to read.
Re: Barrow v Gateshead
I would be up for that as well say we got 100 supporters Paying 5 pound a month That would be That would be 6000 in 12 months It would be a start Think I need to do something because the Cassons not going to do it And the grounds and absolute shit hole

With the benefit of hindsight, I really don’t think we can glory in that.Wintergreen wrote: ↑Sat Sep 29, 2018 1:06 pm When Steve Vaughan came to the club and started putting serious money in.
Although at the time it was exciting - Jeff Parker lolloping around like a giraffe at the back etc.

Looks like you're trying to cover your tracks here, Nigel. A clear double bluff. I hope Christopher sees this.Nigel Bamford wrote: ↑Sat Sep 29, 2018 10:49 am+1 in the Where's a former member of this forum? competition.
