Yep, that’s sealed it. Wind up account.BIG TEZ wrote: ↑Mon Oct 01, 2018 6:30 amHow about a well done for Paul Cox? He inherited an equally poor side but instead turned them into a mid table side that season. Then a play off chasing side the next, before he has his budget massively restricted leaving him unable to do his job properly.pjdaly wrote: ↑Sun Sep 30, 2018 6:27 pm It's good to read the comments about Ady Pennock. Despite the totally forgettable shambles of last season there are two things to remember . . . firstly, that he kept us up despite what he inherited and had at his disposal, and, secondly, despite the nightmarish home showings we only managed to win away after he joined us and – astonishingly, given the home form – we went on to have something like the third or fourth best away record in the league under his tenure. So, in spite of everything, thanks to Ady and well done (at least for the far away bits where most of us weren't even brave enough to look).

Re: Dover v Barrow match thread
Crap journey there and crap return journey home. (motorway blocked on both occasions) Well I wasn't one of the 29, as I was sat a few yards along from Ady
We dominated the game, playing some very pretty neat passing and moving football. Movement off the ball will always create space for others, as long as they are on the same wavelength. And we were. Tyler Smith was a constant threat and his mazy run for Jack's well taken second goal was a fitting testament, as he was immediately subbed. (ran himself into the ground) The first half had very little goalmouth incidents, their keeper made a good save from Tyler and JR narrowly shot wide. Rooney dictated the centre of the pitch, although his longer range passing was a bit awry, but I was impressed with Granite and Brown constantly bringing the ball forward. Unfortunately Brown received a yellow card, now 5 I think, with a massive clash of heads with their young forward Smith, who left the field looking very groggy. Dover showed more bite in the second half as all they did in the first half was chase shadows. Josh Kay lost his composure when well placed going forward and whilst we were leading by one goal, we had a super opportunity on a breakaway, but again Kay seemed to get the ball stuck under his feet. We were four on one with that incident. Firth made one super save from Kendrell, their sub but otherwise was unemployed although he did try and get himself needlessly booked whilst waiting for corners during the first period. I guess IE will have to change the defence, if Brown is suspended. This football is so much better than Hoofball. So congrats to the management.
Gomis and Diarra were nonexistent for Dover. Can't wait for Bromley on the 13th, Non League Day.

Dont forget Effiong also. Nice to see "new" BAFC beat a team containing the "old". Have been impressed with the Dover model until this season. Just shows you how things can go wrong very quickly. We dont have a monopoly on coc*ing things up.Southcoaster wrote: ↑Mon Oct 01, 2018 5:14 pm

Re: Dover v Barrow match thread
It’s a very odd league in many ways. There is such a lot of movement amongst the players between clubs from season to season. Long contracts don’t seem to really exist. It seems that the managers are vital. Compare our last game. Chris Kinnear knows the League inside out, and all the players. His choice appears to have been poor, as Dover are a shadow of their former selves (at the moment). On the other hand we went to reduced budget, lots of players from lower leagues, a brand new manager and in some ways there was understandable bleating by many about our direction. Arise, Sir Pedro in particular. But now, IE has got a brand new bunch playing very attractive football consistently, and often carving the opposition to ribbons. A bit more fortune in front of goal, a bit more defensive concentration and we could comfortably be in the play off places. Only 11 games in.
My point is this really - IE must take a lot of credit thus far for identifying (journeyman) players and feeling confident that they can play to his style effectively. Also don’t forget Paul Ogden brought some in early in the season (e.g.Granite, Hindle) before IE was appointed, who he has inherited and got to play effectively in his style. I know it’s early in the season, but I’m enjoying watching the team, and so far hats off to the players and the management. Incudenally, anyone know what Ogden is up to at the moment?

Watching lots of matches and having lots of conversations, I guess.
THE NORTHERN WAY
Re: Dover v Barrow match thread
IE and his management team take all the credit for what we are seeing on the pitch. Balance of the side is spot on. Performances haven't always got us the results but the game management side is something he's recognised and focused on. We will always create chances in games. Interesting to see where we are at the mid point of the season. I dont know what's happened at Dover. Chris Kinnear was very flat after the game and pointed to their recruitment problems over summer.
Still searching for the Young Soul Rebels

According to a couple of their supporters we were talking to before the game, Dover are part time and find that retaining existing players over the summer can be a problem. Also, as mentioned above, they have difficulties in attracting players to the club.
So they start each season with a virtually new team. But there again, so did we this August. Maybe Ian Evett has the knack of doing this but Chris Kinnear doesn't?

Kinnear has been very good at re-assembling sides season in, season out and as managed to unearth a few gems such as Ricky Miller who've kept them going. Just goes to show that no matter how good a manager you are if you are heavily constrained not only in what you can buy but when you can buy and cant offer full-time football, eventually it becomes impossible to replicate success at this level. A bit like BAFC under Daz n Dave. Carlisle also have to have pretty much an annual rebuild even though they are of course a full-time EFL side.Steelworks End wrote: ↑Tue Oct 02, 2018 7:12 pmAccording to a couple of their supporters we were talking to before the game, Dover are part time and find that retaining existing players over the summer can be a problem. Sad really. Clearly Chris Kinnear has been and probably still is one of the best managers at this level. Their fans are now calling for him to go which whilst understandable given their current form is a little sad. Where on earth are they going to find someone like him to do the job that he has been doing for so long. The likelihood of a step back becomes inevitable. Still whilst Dover is a pleasant place to go its a bloody long way from Barrow (its even two hours plus from Suffolk). So as long as they finish below us, c'est la vie.

I definitely think Dover fans need to get a grip calling for the managers head. As said above, where are you going to find a manager that good at assembling sides in that sort of handcuffed scenario? The last two seasons, maybe more, they have been consistently sniffing around the play-offs. Clearly spoilt rotten down on the south coast!

Its the same everywhere, People are people & results dictate the clamouring for him to go, we'd be exactly the same sadly.John_Bucks wrote: ↑Wed Oct 03, 2018 12:25 pm I definitely think Dover fans need to get a grip calling for the managers head.
