Kieran wrote: ↑Sat Oct 13, 2018 5:06 pm Worst we've been all season, but still you could argue we deserved a point.

We really couldn't get our game going today, similar to Maidstone where we also lost. 3G has a lot to do with that, awful surface and makes for a totally different game of football.
I'm glad you said that because it's the first time I've seen Barrow live this season and I was expecting great things. However, the point you make about the pitch is spot on. I didn't know Bromley had a 3G pitch or I wouldn't have gone because I've seen Barrow 3 times at Sutton and those pitches make football a complete farce and IMO should not be allowed in the professional game. If you add in the strong wind today then the chances of getting much entertainment was pretty low! When the teams came out my son said to me that it looked like a junior team against a senior team the difference in height and size of the teams was so enormous. In fact, after the first Bromley corner we agreed that every set piece would be a problem.
Bromley were clueless in football terms banging almost everything into touch or lumping up the pitch and the first half was a complete non-event as Barrow played good football but in their own half but did absolutely nothing in Bromley's half other than hitting passes which with the aid of the wind and the 3G surface ran too far. I thought the second half was much better as Barrow started to play well in the Bromley half as well as their own half. Unfortunately the good play generally stopped when we reached their penalty area. I thought Hindle, who has impressed me when watched the highlights video, was very poor and Smith was non-existent. A lot of this could probably be put down to the pitch, though. In spite of not playing very well, Barrow much have had 70 to 80% of possession and were clearly trying to play much better football than Bromley. The new guy looked lightweight in the first half but scored a wonder goal in the second half which seemed to give him confidence and was the main danger to Bromley in the second half.
I'm surprised at the criticism of Jones who I thought was Barrow's outstanding player with Rooney and Taylor not far behind. Wilson also played well after coming on and had an extra bit of height that Granite lacked. I thought Firth looked solid and couldn't be blamed for either of the goals. If Barrow could get another central defender and striker with some physical presence then they could trouble most teams but I fear they will struggle in a lot of matches in this league purely because they won't be able to defend set pieces. It's O.K. saying they should be able to do it but it's not that easy if you have 3 or 4 players who are half a foot taller than your defenders! However, I've seen enough iin one game to be very confident that Barrow won't struggle this season and I like the way the manager has got them trying to pass the ball.

I think the manager will be upset they didn't get 3 points let alone 1 point. Barrow was certainly the better football team and dominated possession even though they created little. The 1 goal they scored should have been enough to win against a very poor Bromley team which also created next to nothing but scored 2 goals without having to create anything! I disagree with you about the referee. He made a couple of errors but was generally good and IMO was not one sided in any way. In fact, I was sitting in the stand surrounded by Bromley supporters and they were moaning about the number of free kicks to was giving to Barrow.

As previously mentioned the first 45 was a total non event. They started brighter and we didn't seem to get to grip with the pitch and wind, when kicking with it. Much better in the second half and were definately the better team. Although I'm not sure we deserved to win. Can't remember any goalmouth incidents. They scored from a 7th min corner routine that seemed to bounce down and over Firth, although he may of got a hand to it. Burgess suffered a nasty fall courtesy of a flailing arm from Raymond, their number 8, and this was after the ref had blown for a Barrow free kick. Don't know if Granite was injured but we looked better when Wilson took his place. Yes, we had more first half possession but only in our half. Both Hindle and Smith seemed to be starved of service. in the first half far too many balls, mainly from Jones were hit with too much pace although on one occasion, Molyneax chipped one just over the bar (probably only effort in the first half)
Josh Kay was fired up when he came on and he and Raymond were at it for the last twenty mins before the break, 7mins added on. We played much better kicking into the wind and started to push the Bromley team backwards but their young tall striker appeared to be a handful. Souza scared with a fantastic strike, why can't other players shoot more often, incidents can happen when they do. Hindle couldn't sort his feet out when he was played through. Their keeper was only tested once when Souza, who looked sharp shot across the goal shaving the upright. Their second goal was a freak. Jones committed a foul on the right touchline, and their annoying playmaker Raymond fired across goal and the ball evaded everyone. Firth will blame the defence and i'm sure they will blame him. Either way I just wish Firth would command his box more often. Yes we will continue to concede from set pieces as we look vulnerable. The ref did not have a bad game and at one point just before half time tempers were frayed. Brown was lucky not to get a second yellow in the dying minutes as he swung his arm into the face of their young striker. Last April the 0/0 draw, again a crap game on a crap pitch, meant we stayed up, something i wasn't looking forward to this season, but i am enjoying the football that we are playing even if it is lacking goalmouth incidents. Certainly beats 'Hoofball'

Herein lies the problem that Barrow and Evatt need to work out. We have a good side who want to play football and a positive thinking manager but we are up against the sides who are very direct and get it into the box for the big man. It’s how the majority of football is played at this level.

Agree with this, we kept the ball second half but we really didn't hurt them with it one shot on target the whole game

Our goal was excellent and he's a good player
Still don't like artificial pitches.

As Evatt said last week, luck seems to balance itself out. Two good goals against cancelled out last week, two dodgy goals against allowed yesterday, according to RC reports.

Nothing dodgy about the Bromley goals yesterday except our defending!

According to BBC RC there was an offside leading up to the first and the free kick which led to the second was highly questionable.
It all comes 'round again.

1st goal was definite offside.

Bit like our team under Paul Cox.
The void Danny Livesey left has never been filled
Moussa never grew as much as he should have.
We need a experience centre half and another decent big defender.
It's no good scoring goals then conceeding from set plays which we frequently do.

Sooner or later, Ian Evatt will have to realise that it's getting the ball in the net, and not the amount of possession that decides matches

We need to be able to switch the style of play when necessary to a more direct approach. And if that means resorting to a few 'smash and grabs' to salvage some league points then so be it
