All them reasons will, and always have affected attendances but I think it’s more disappointing for the simple reason the new owners need people through the gates. If they don’t get people to attend then the only alternative will be for budget cuts, lesser players, smaller squads and more than likely somewhere down the line, relegation.
We don’t have an owner pouring money in and taking losses like we have had for the last four years, the next year or two seasons will be very challenging and gates of under 800 Barrow supporters isn’t going to help.

We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.
Re: BARROW V Wrexham match thread
Sadly Ian, I don't think the depth of feeling for the club amongst those who might be described as floaters is enough to make them attend in those circumstances. There's around 800 who care enough to attend simply because the club needs them, but for the rest they can either take it or leave it and not be too fussed. For those people a combination of results, performances, TV football, weather, facilities at the ground etc will be more of a deciding factor than new owners and the club needing their support. For as long as we expect people to simply attend out of some kind of moral duty we are going to be disappointed.spirit of 1990 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 30, 2018 8:19 am

We also need to looking to motorway is that the funds up to turn up and spend money at the club So we’re not relying as much from gate receipts

We also need to look in to Moreways that the fans who turn up can spend money at the club So we’re not reliant as much I’ll get receipts

Totally agree with Kieran . Even after the Boro away trip when 8,000 plus travelled to the NE , I remember hoping that the hard core 800 might actually grow to 1200-1500. There was no ‘ FACup ‘ effect. Same after Wembley.
The harsh reality is that 800-1000 people are prepared to support and attend home games. Tuesday was a sod of a night, Champions League on TV ( for some) end of the month, Christmas on the horizon.
The Rugby are in the same boat. And we are taking on water....

Re: BARROW V Wrexham match thread
This is a personal view:
Anyone who thinks us and the rugby getting in the same boat is a good idea is wrong. It'd be a marginally bigger boat bailing just as furiously. And if people are waiting for a new boat to be built, they must have missed the council cuts of the last 5 years.
The income folk think would be generated from selling either ground is utter pie in the sky too- land isn't retailing like that now, especially in Barrow where we are awash with brownfield sites. Then there's the amount of time any project would take to come to fruition, if we had won the 'bid' for the medical centre, look where we would be now?
We own our ground, we have to maximise how much we can take, over a longer period, on a matchday and other times and (although this doesn't make us a lot financially) develop around the ground as best we can like renting a 3G. We've got to have a bit more common sense when a little windfall drops our way (Trophy final etc when the board lost their heads and we all agreed it was a good idea)
There is enough talent and nous in the '800' to make all this much better. We've got to recruit better and stick with it for good or ill, so we don't end up paying 1000s (again, which we mostly all agreed with at the time) . We've got to run the facility properly, not down, by tapping into the brilliant volunteers and listening to them and whoever on the board understands building. We've got to reestablish some sort of relationship with local companies who have been shafted or ignored in the past. All this has to, must work better.
If we do all that, consistently, we can maintain and grow the football club. But there's no quick, glamorous fix.

Steve, I certainly wasn’t suggesting for a minute we join forces with the Rugby. Just saying they are up against the same issues we are, small crowds, old stadium etc. We could do with putting our merchandise in a join shop in town! Or even have our own pop up shop with Christmas coming....
Don’t understand the Trophy final comment? What happened?
I agree that it’s engaging with the fans/volunteers and the local Furness community that we need to do.... and steps have , and continue to be made , by Craig Rutherford and his team, the Volunteers that organise work parties. It’s all positive.
I feel confident that Paul Hornby and the new consortium understand this. BP

Re: BARROW V Wrexham match thread
Dont agree that sharing with the Rugby is wrong. We have two clubs playing in two crumbling grounds. The impact of a new ground would be the catalyst for growth that has avoided both clubs for too long.
"To achieve anything and to get to the Football League, we have to expect to win every game. I've got to get everyone believing that we can, and I will work hard to embed that mentality into the players, the town, the board and whoever else” Ian Evatt.
Re: BARROW V Wrexham match thread
Everyone recognises the two clubs face similar issues, same crumbling grounds, cannot ever seem to grow, poor crowds, make good suggestion to share a shop in town but when it comes to the big question, people choke on it. Cant understand it myself.

Just because I don't agree ground sharing is a good idea doesn't mean I would 'choke' on the shop in town. And yes, the playing budget post trophy was what I was referring to.
