Re: Home Attendances
There’s definitely not 403,000 people living in Halifax. Harrogate less then 160,000 to.

Pop Avg Att
Barrow 67,000 1,259

Solihull 214,000 1,154
Dover 116,000 1,101

Gateshead 202,000 846
Halifax 403,000 1,548

In addition, every one on the list has a far bigger catchment area close to it than Barrow but, on the other hand, most of them also have teams at a higher level in that catchment area.

Re: Home Attendances
Catchment areas again?
Look at the difference in the views expressed regarding the Dover catchment area. Is it 30000 or 100,000? Obviously depends how you measure it. If you believe that the Dover catchment area extends as far west as Canterbury, includes Folkestone and Ramsgate and Whitstable then its a damn sight bigger than 30000. And the nearest serious competition is probably Gillingham. So in reality they have more people to go for but over a longer distance.
Even if the BAFC catchment area is only 55000 an average 2000 gate would constitute a mere 3.6% of the overall population and maybe 5%-6% once some obvious parameters are taken into account. 2000 would certainly be sustainable at this level and close to sustainable at the level above. Such a target is neither outrageous, ridiculous or fanciful. Whether or not it can be achieved simply by expecting the team to play better is the question.
And yes if the average attendance of 1259 is correct as quoted above, that is not too bad in a season where the ownership has been changed and the budget has been cut. Its certainly an improvement on last year. So its not all doom and gloom. Just dont keep expecting every win we achieve (and the last two have been absolutely magnificent) or every place that we rise to mean that another 200 will come through the gate at the next home game. Its just not that simple.

Yes I think people see the season as over, but IE and the new owners have really achieved more than was ever expected.Suffolk Blue wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2019 3:35 pm Catchment areas again?

The gates would increase if we were actually in the playoffs (not a thing we want in terms of finances).
Hopefully next season we can have a good cup run which will bring in cash and the crowds

Re: Home Attendances
Why would we not want to be in the play offs? A few bumper gates at the end of the season would be good for the finances, wouldn’t they?

Re: Home Attendances
My figures were taken merely from typing "populations of xxxx" into google. Obviously there are different ways of measuring them re which catchment areas may or may not be included. However, whichever you choose, they all point to the fact that Barrow is very near the bottom of the population National League so it would be very surprising if we were anything but low in the attendance National League.JammyBluebird wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2019 2:54 pmBarrow 56,000russell_anderson wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2019 2:17 pm In actual fact in comparison to population Barrow's attendances are pretty good!

The Halifax one may be reference to Nova Scotia though.

Re: Home Attendances
If we make the play offs we would more than likely be in 6th or 7th place then we wouldn't play at home.Lancaster Branch wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2019 4:25 pm Why would we not want to be in the play offs? A few bumper gates at the end of the season would be good for the finances, wouldn’t they?
Does anyone know if you get a split of the home club gate receipts in the play offs?

My fear is we might actually win and imagine if we won promotion.Lancaster Branch wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2019 4:25 pm Why would we not want to be in the play offs? A few bumper gates at the end of the season would be good for the finances, wouldn’t they?

Re: Home Attendances
You get a grace period to complete all the required improvements. According to their Chairman, Accy Stanley still don’t comply with all of the rules and they’ve been in the league for what, 13 years?

Re: Home Attendances
No worries.
You also get a solidarity payment (£450k this year) and if you come straight down you get the same again in the first year back down in non league and then £225k for the following season.
Just think how many new boilers we could buy with that...

Re: Home Attendances
Never understood the argument that it would be bad to go into League 2. With the extra supporters through the gate, sponsorship, the league cup and Sky money we’d be laughing. Soon as possible for me.
Life is always better when it's better
Re: Home Attendances
Promotion back in the football league after all these years would be a lottery win.
Yes it would provide a challenge but if cannot aspire where are we?
Go got it . There’s nothing now to lose
