He has improved this season but he is not really a centre back. Full back with a long throw he is best at. Contract runs out soon and it was a vg one. I don’t think we could offer similar now so so he may move on.

Plays a full season at centre back, arguably in with a shout of player of the year, and still gets comments like "not really a centre back"... Not sure what some people expect of a non-league footballer! He's done his job extremely well this season (I actually thought he was good in a midfield role last season), and yes, he's made a few mistakes, but most defenders at this level have made big mistakes.

I think he's every bit as good if not better as a left-sided central defender. He's got a terrific long crossfield pass and has more time as a central defender.

Hardly seen him use that throw this year. Shows how our style of play is very different. Arguably on a hiding to nothing because of the (lack of) height of our players. It might frustrate the “get it in the box” fans we hear (too much in my view) every match.

Jones's talents won't have gone unnoticed. He could play at a higher level. We will do well to hang on to him.

Said exactly this to someone the other day, there’s not only Dan who might get offers from elsewhere as well.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Give me his cross field distribution from Centre Back over his long throw at Left Back any day!

He's probably been in our top 2 or 3 players this season!

If you ask Ian Evatt he will strongly disagree with yoh there.

Finances aside, I would be surprised if IE would want to part with him. IE has continually talked about building from a retained core for next season. Clearly any defence would ideally need to be built around Jason Taylor - retaining his service I would agree is a higher priority. But Dan Jones now feels like he's almost been adopted by IE. There was a time even earlier in this season when Dan stood out like a sore thumb wherever he was on the pitch. The fact that he's now blended into the squad says a lot about his progress. Think he would easily get another NL club and to my mind that makes him good enough for BAFC.

Taylor is a midfielder....or are you advocating moving him into defence next season?

I wouldn’t be against that move, if his performances in the last 2 games are anything to go by. Had one of the leagues leading goalscorers firmly in his pocket on Saturday.
I’d also be hoping to keep hold of Steve Jennings as well.

Anyway, taking things back on topic

Been informed that Dan Jones will be starting tonight

Great for Dan, but I always think these games are a bit pointless.
Hope he doesn't get injured as we will have a big hole in our defence Saturday

Try telling Dan Jones and the rest of the players called up its pointless  If he gets injured he gets injured that's football and we'll just get on with it as we did at Wrexham and Eastleigh.

So if you were chosen to play for your country...you'd turn it down cos it's pointless and you might get injured

Point taken. I would rephrase my comment as follows " Clearly any team would ideally need to be built around Jason Taylor. Retaining his services will be our highest priority".

However this doesn't change my view on DJ.
