You'd be surprised how many people say they'd rather watch Soccer Saturday than go watch live football...PerthBluebird wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 3:51 pmAgain thats a fantasy as there are no 3 o clocks shown on tv yet another fantasy comment.Si_Nichols wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 1:04 am Good battling performance and a deserved 3 points. Awful for first half hour then better. Quigley MOTM for me assuming we discount their keeper.
Poor attendance but Premier League started today so all the Sky TV [SwearFilter] back to their sofas/pubs

West Ham v Manchester City was on at 12:30. Difficult choice at 14:20 for the TV footie fan - stay in the warm or trudge along in dubious weather to watch Barrow who had disappointed them a few days earlier.
THE NORTHERN WAY

Nope, nobody illegally streams games from foreign broadcasters...PerthBluebird wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 3:51 pmAgain thats a fantasy as there are no 3 o clocks shown on tv yet another fantasy comment.Si_Nichols wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 1:04 am Good battling performance and a deserved 3 points. Excuses excuses we are a small fry as said previous. Crazy statement to make when you look at some attendances in our league and above footballs never been thriving more. We played poor people did nt turn up simple. If they beat stockport then you watch the following saturday attendances rise. Its fairly simple really you walk into greggs and get a shit pie you aint going back for another are you for a while.Moribund wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 7:55 pmNope, nobody illegally streams games from foreign broadcasters...PerthBluebird wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 3:51 pm

What are you on about? You said there's no 3pm kick offs on TV, but all matches are available if you look for them.PerthBluebird wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 11:02 pmExcuses excuses we are a small fry as said previous. Not a fantasy comment at all. Doesn't matter on the time/day of kick-offs. Purely just that the week previous with no Premier League if someone wanted a football fix they didn't have the Prem as an option so might be more inclined to take a wander down to Holker Street. As Jamie mentioned - amazing how many people sit and listen to Stelling and cronies on a Saturday afternoon as well.PerthBluebird wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 3:51 pmAgain thats a fantasy as there are no 3 o clocks shown on tv yet another fantasy comment.Si_Nichols wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 1:04 am Good battling performance and a deserved 3 points. Everywhere you looked and turned this weekend it was being talked about as the football season starting as the Premier League is all 95%+ of the population are aware of and/or care about.
Re: Barrow AFC v Eastleigh FC
If people are watching 3.00 pm kick offs anyway they'll probably be watching them every week regardless of whether Barrow are at home or not. Therefore not many who didn't turn up will be in that category.
Plain and simple - Tuesday's performance was bad and so was Saturday's weather, plus some on holiday.
Anyway it's gone - time to move on.
A good result at Stockport will see a better gate on Saturday, regardless of weather.

Re: Barrow AFC v Eastleigh FC
I wonder how many people from Furness travel down to Manchester or Liverpool on an average Saturday to watch their football, assuming one of the four Premier League sides in the two cities are actually at home on a Saturday afternoon, of course? Just a couple of coaches would knock a potential 80-100 off the gate at Holker Street.
Whilst the option of going to see Premier League / First Division football has always been there of course (and I admit in my younger days I used to go to Anfield or, ahem, Blackpool for my fix of top level football) the media emphasis on the top teams was nowhere near as all consuming as it is now; even MOTD used to show the occasional game from the lower divisions.
Nowadays, as Si mentions, the Premier League is all most people know or care about; just wander around the town centre and see how many Premier League club replicas you see, compared with Barrow ones.
Until the Premier League / Sky / BT bubble bursts, I'm afraid it's a problem that us and other similar clubs will have to live with.

Agreed.
Like watching the young Cowps at times - which l think is still a good thing?
Further, would a young Cowps get in an Evatt side?
We will foller the soccer, over land and sea...

Re: Barrow AFC v Eastleigh FC
There must be a few folk like me who can't get to every game because of distance and, therefore, cost. Last week I had the choice: Harrogate or Eastleigh. I plumped for Harrogate because a) it was the first home game of the season, and b) I thought Harrogate would provide more attractive opposition. OK, we get some decisions wrong
but the point is that the mere fact it was the first home game and the expectation that had been built will have encouraged a few long-distance supporters to make the effort. The fact that Tuesday was a pretty dismal performance won't affect the number of times I get to HS this season but, equally, I will make the extra effort if a bigger game also comes along.
It all comes 'round again.

1470.....But Bradford brought considerably more away fans than Eastleigh.
Wonder if their inevitable relegation will help our attendances a little?

Is there any reason you think Evatt wouldn't like him? I can't think of any. Incredibly strong and almost impossible to knock off the ball, good at holding the ball and bringing other players into the game, excellent on the ground and in the air plus scores lots of goals. What's not to like? One of the very best strikers I ever saw play for Barrow not just in non-league but even including when we were in the league.Wintergreen wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2019 1:11 pmAgreed.
