After leaving us Byron has failed at Sutton, failed at Barnet and failed back at Barrow. I suspect it's because of injury problems but, I'm afraid, his days of being able tp perform at this level are over.chipmunx wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2019 9:58 am I can see Elsden maybe going back to Whitby for the rest of the season.
Greaves going back to Sheff Utd purely because of lack of game time and Waddington going out on loan.
nothing before the Trophy replay though.
Harrison is just very frustrating to watch - I know it was a bobbly pitch put he needs to get a goal from somewhere.

Re: January ins and outs
Just been reading that jack redshaw ex Salford, Morecambe, Rochdale has returned after a long term injury and is on a short term contract till 1st Jan at Halifax and has done well in the games he has played. He would be worth a punt and would suit the way evatt plays.

Re: January ins and outs
Not a bad shout. Jack is a Barrovian and is definitely L2 standard. I think he'd love to play for us given the opportunity and I could certainly see him playing in a promoted BAFC team (I must stop thinking like that). He would certainly score goals and has made a difference at Halifax by all accounts.Kendal_bluebird wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2019 9:13 am Just been reading that jack redshaw ex Salford, Morecambe, Rochdale has returned after a long term injury and is on a short term contract till 1st Jan at Halifax and has done well in the games he has played. Finances aside, the problems might be (a) we'd need him for the remainder of the season not just for a month and (b) more to the point where would he fit in? Jack is 5 foot 4 inches in height. He's more Tyler Smith than he is Scott Quigley so using Kay or Dyson or Angus in wide positions with someone like Redshaw as a central striker probably wouldn't work and so you're then into changing formations which you dont want to do perpetually. I have noticed that Halifax haven't used him constantly from the start of games. But he does score goals.
Feels to me that part of the problem with peoples perception of Harrison is that they'd ideally like him to be a part-time replacement for Quigley as he has the right strength and physique but perhaps not much else these days. So if you were looking for another striker it would probably be to cover Quigley. More like Bennett than Redshaw?

What position does Len play, Dave?

There’ll be a few Macclesfield players available soon, sad but true

Possibly thinking of Jack Ryan?

Yep VDN you're right. I was confusing the name with the Redshaw lineage. Opinion as a footballer however remains the same. Will score goals but may be too much of a hobbit for our current needs.Van Der Nipper wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2019 12:28 pmJack Redshaw isn't a Barrovian.Suffolk Blue wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2019 12:24 pm

Re: January ins and outs
A lot of comments regarding Byron Harrison on this thread. Got me to thinking about how accurate much of it was (apart from the fact he hasn't scored this season). So thanks to Flashscore I had a look at our games so far this season and came up with the following:
(1) Byron has played a total of 603 minutes (assuming 90 mins per game) in our 24 games so far this season. An average of 25 mins per game
(2) He played a total of 353 minutes in our first 9 games (of which we won 2) or approx. 39 minutes per game
(3) He played a total of 250 minutes in our next 15 games (of which we won 13) or approx. 18 minutes per game
(4) He has made 5 starts out of the 24 games played, completing 2. In both of these, Quigley was not available
(5) He has appeared 15 times as a sub. In 11 of these hes been subbed for Quigley, 3 times for Angus and once for Dyson.
(6) In those games where he has been used as a sub only once has the outcome of that game changed (i.e. Win to Draw/Loss or vice versa) whilst he's been on the field
In summary therefore: Byron was I think the final pre-season acquisition by Ian Evatt. Judging by the pattern of his on field appearances it looks like initially IE did see Byron as a reasonable alternative to Scott Quigley or at least someone that he could rotate to. In 3 of the early games Byron actually started games ahead of Quigley and was himself subbed on each occasion. Stats do not suggest that Byron was himself to blame for early results, simply that he made little difference to the outcome. As Quigley's strike rate improved so Byron's on field time diminished though he has repeatedly been used to relieve Quigley albeit for increasingly smaller amounts of time. Most recently he's actually been used to sub more regularly (though not necessarily positionally) for Angus - again as the latter's strike rate has improved and we've been trying to preserve his fitness.
This pattern suggests actually that IE made a mistake in thinking that Byron could make a scoring contribution if not actually as good as Quigley then in addition to. This "mistake" has been made much less problematic by the fact that the likes of Rooney, Angus, Kay etc. have all started to score regularly. The situation has now changed to one where now Byron's only real contribution is to relieve tired bodies and suggests that IE has made his mind up and that the risk of losing Quigley to a serious injury cannot be covered by Byron. Given our current position therefore finding someone who could either compliment or cover for Quigley probably is a priority if we want to push for promotion. Sorry Byron. Its been fun but I think your days even as a bench-sitter might be numbered.

The Greaves and Waddington ones were quite easy to predict.chipmunx wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2019 9:58 am I can see Elsden maybe going back to Whitby for the rest of the season.

Elsden i can still see going out on loan either after the Atherton tie - or assuming we win it then after the FC United one.
One name that might come up is David Fox again - particularly if Taylor gets used more as a central defender. He still seams to be without a club, but is now associated with Edge of Play Coaching who amongst other things are involved with Barrow on film and analysis of training. The main reason we didn't sign him in the summer was that we needed a central defender more - but if we do keep hold of White for the season then White, Hardcastle and Rooney is proving to be a very effective and creative midfield combination and that would allow Taylor to be used a defender and Fox as the bench midfield option.

Fox can sign for other clubs now though can’t he? It runs on so many clubs in a calendar year rather than a season iirc

Re: January ins and outs
In Byron's defence a lot of the time he's been brought on to see games out rather than to find a vital goal. Dior Angus had a fairly long spell without scoring but who would now deny his importance to the squad? I don't think there's any need to panic just yet given where we are and providing both Angus and Quigley remain fit.

Re: January ins and outs
We could manage without Angus as Dyson is a good replacement albeit with different attributes but we'd struggle to score goals if Quigley was injured. We have nobody who would score the goals he does or hold the ball or with the strength that he provides.Electricblues wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2020 8:58 am In Byron's defence a lot of the time he's been brought on to see games out rather than to find a vital goal.
