Only a fan would not see the advantages of it. IE has won nothing at BAFC yet and may never do so. So any prospect of a double leg up to a club he is intimately acquainted with must be very tempting against the mountain that still lies ahead for BAFC..

Where we may have been a little off-the-mark is assuming that when Grayson's job became available, Blackpool would immediately try and bring a lost "son" home. As is evident from the Gazettes ramblings, a League 1 club rarely will look for a new manager from 2 divisions below even if the Gazette thinks it might be a good idea and irrespective of whether we think he could do the job or not. They will instinctively favour a name or a known quantity. In the case of Blackpool it would appear the clear first choice is or has been Nathan Jones, a manager who a friend of mine from the Potteries recently described as the "totally out of his depth and the worst thing that has happened to Stoke City in decades". But of course that was in the Championship so he's bound to be the dogs bollo*ks a League below.

Have always thought that if Blackpool really wanted IE they'd appoint an interim to the end of the season and simply move in then. The problem for the Tangerines might now be they would be more inclined to favour IE if he had already attained promotion so the vacancy may have come a little too soon. But lets see. I'd love some football to talk about.
It's all supposition ,but I agree the job has come a little early.
If I.E wants the job he will go for a chat on the other hand he is in a job where finances are limited which is probably the same as some league clubs.
He has a Chairman ,Board and supporters who back him as best as they can.a
He has talked the talk and actually delivering so far.

Robinson is on a three year contract and Oxford have told Blackpool where to go. Very cheeky move especially as Oxford are doing very nicely at the moment and sit just outside the L1 play-offs.

To me this suggests a couple of things. Firstly the prospect of having to buy a man out of a three year contract doesn't phase them. Secondly they do seem to be focussing on managers with a strong EFL pedigree. Quite ambitious in a rather obvious sort of way. In that respect re-focussing from someone like Karl Robinson to someone like Ian Evatt would require quite a shift.

Blackpool also approached Richie Wellens at Swindon. This was also turned down and Wellens has now signed a new contract with Swindon.

Sound words from IE after saturdays win

Another impressive crowd of 2353 came to Back The Bluebirdshttps at the Progression Solicitors Stadium, with the manager quick to heap praise on them all.
“It more than warms my heart, it makes it all worthwhile. I’m immensely proud of this football club at the minute, I love being here, I love my job. It was tough today but everyone should be immensely proud, supporters, directors, ground staff, players, this was a win for everybody and the fight and desire shown by all was magnificent.”

Blackpool have appointed a manager, well a “head coach” which seems to be the fashion these days.
Panic over, full steam ahead for Ian Evatts table topping bluebirds

No doubt that there'll be many that look at Critchley and his connection to to Liverpool and think this is a radical and very positive decision. In fact it looks more practical that revolutionary. Dont see many Premiership U-23 managers that ultimately migrate to full blown Premiership bosses. Truth is he runs a League 1/2 equivalent squad most of who's players will end up playing League 1/2 football. As such Blackpool will probably benefit in the short term from the connection. Its a safe decision. Hiring Evatt would be seen as too radical.

Not that it matters. I only hope that if we do get promoted, IE remembers moments like these when clubs come a-courtin'.

IE was just on Radio 5 live from about 19.53, talking about the current situation. I typed some of it up, but not all

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/live: ... _five_live

"were you surprised that some games went ahead?

IE "very surprised in terms of how the premier league and EFL made decisions on Friday, thought the national league would match and come in line, however, does understand the reasons behind it being on, thinks they were waiting for the government to say everything needs to stop in terms of claiming money back, in terms of small clubs and business its best if they stick to government protocol"

how is the club running, has everything shut down? any contact with the player?

IE "to be honest i've given the lads a week off, shared training ground with Toronto wolfpack whos gone into self-isolation, we've had one or two whos been suffering from moderate symptoms, not sure if they have or haven't got it"

financial sense of the club, how worried are the fans etc, do you have some leeway?

IE "All extremely worried as its the uncertainty of it all, the national league is different to the premier league and EFL who might have that grace to wait to September/October. We have players out of contract in May, loan players that make a difference, also when you haven't played for a long time, training, keep them match fit to go back into 9 games with promotion on the line, would argue that's against the integrity of the competition and unfair, a lot of questions unanswered and there's no easy way out"

asked about government advice, and about playing behind closed doors

"in my opinions a waste of time, we haven't been in the EFL for 48 years, can't imagine no fans turning up, gonna need police/doctors medical, goes against what the government are saying in terms of services being kept for this crisis"

nice one, thanks for that. surely the case of losing 5k a week after may 4th is the same for most clubs, and the national league would have to draw a line here?

Wont just be national league though; there will be plenty of teams in the football league who can’t cope without their gate money either
