Notice Exeter had weekday away games at both Hartlepool, Barrow and Workington; they would have been pleased.

Yes I remember getting the paper and reading we had been voted out of the League was devastated.
Nothing changes if i remember right out goalkeeper got injured and we asked to loan one the FA refused at the same time as letting Everton sign a back up goalkeeper.
Think Bobby Knox had to play in goals for us

My recollection is that Harry Thompson played in goal and there were suggestions that he wasn't in the best physical state at the time.

Yes, I was there and was there every match in 1971-72 . . . . . though I've been trying to forget it all for 48 years (to no avail). Bear in mind that this last FL home match at Holker Street involved that same Brentford who had also been our opponents five years before when we clinched promotion to Division 3 on May 6th 1967. In the Brentford team of 1972 there were as many as four players who had played against us in that most famous of games five years earlier. They were goalkeeper Phillips, Howson, Gelson and Docherty. Barrow only had the one who played in both matches - Eric Harrison - though Bobby Knox was of course a player who featured for us in both years but got far more games in 1971-72 than in 1966-67 when I think he only got a couple of first-team appearances. And just as an aside, Bobby Knox had been a utility player who played everywhere when called upon, including famously and historically in goals, but he had always primarily been played as a striker (or old-fashioned "inside right"). Bizarrely, in 1971-72, he suddenly became left full-back for a good chunk of the season. And do you know what? He was brilliant in that role. I remember a pal of mine saying he only went along to Holker Street in that fateful season of 1971-72 for one reason; I asked "what's that?" and he said "to watch Bobby Knox play, he's fantastic". And he was - - - a revelation in spite of the struggles of the team.

My apologies, Cromwell, I have got my wires crossed. I was thinking for some reason you were referring to the Brentford home match and now I realise you are referring to the Exeter away game . . . no, I was not at that one (thankfully) but IIRC we went ahead in that game . . . .

Not exactly Barrow’s darkest day but one of these could’ve been up there.

As I was trying to find things to do earlier I came across these.

The one below on the first photo was from what could’ve been our last game ever against Kidderminster Harriers back in May 99.
The one above was from when we tried to become the final football game played in the last century (bloody hell, that makes us sound old ) I think in the end another club shared the KO time with us, possibly Norwich Vics. I can also remember it being a bit more memorable for having a streaker invade the pitch....bloody 30th December!!

And of course the other two are both programmes from our two FAT finals.
