The first vote was tied at 26 votes each. The Chairman could have made a casting vote, but he chose to hold a second ballot which Barrow lost by three votes.
There was talk of bottles of Whisky being handed out by Her****d directors. ;)
Interesting. I know it's raking over the embers, but I looked up the protocol/custom and practice regarding Chairman's vote. I don't know if there are any rules about having a re-run of the voting instead. Who was the Chairman and did he like whisky? ;)

A wise chair will nearly always exercise their casting vote to “preserve the status quo“. That means they will vote so the situation does NOT change. In most circumstances, that means that they will vote against the proposal although some proposals are worded so that a vote in favour preserves the status quo.

I can almost hear some people saying WHY????

The answer is that by preserving the status quo, the issue is free to be raised again at a later meeting when there is more support. But the reason wise people vote this way is that if the casting vote is used to change something, then the decision has in reality been made by one person – the person in the chair. As many people are in favour as are against and it is not a sound decision.

Club Brugge are set to be crowned Belgian champions after the Jupiler Pro League's board of directors recommended the season should be ended early because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Not really - aside from one game, they had played each other both home and away.

Their league goes to a playoff of the top six to then crown a champion, similar to the super league in Rugby league

Yeah, but at this stage it's more or less a complete picture because they've played each other twice.

They would still normally play the play off fixtures, irrespective of whose finished top of the league, so the team who finished 6th could still of been crowned champions of Belgium, that's what I was getting at.

And yeah we don't use that format, but it's the fact that they have made that decision, whereas it seems like the F. A. Was reluctant to make any decision

I think you're missing the point: the Belgian FA is in a pretty unique position that it has an almost complete table it can base it's final standings on. It's not applicable to all the other nations where their league table is only about 80% complete.

I get what you're saying, but they've completed the league before it's final stage (the play offs) and are awarding a team a title, that yes are top of the league but there is still another phase of their season that they are writing off

I am not sure the actions of the Belgian FA will suddenly have every other FA in the world rising to copy in case they be accused of not following precedent.

As I said before let’s just wait and see what happens instead of over analysing every single media report or assumption put forward by someone .
Some people really do need to think a bit more before they post things on here

Almost complete isn't complete though is it. Theyve been awarded it based on their position up to now which sets a good precedent for us fingers crossed.

With the Belgian playoff system arguably they were no closer to winning the league than us.

If we got had one game left until we'd played everyone home and away, the National League would do what the Belgian FA has done (discount the play-offs and let the standings be final). But it isn't, so it's not applicable.

The ONLY precedent will be whatever the Premier League and EFL decide.
