Re: John Woods
It has been interesting reading these posts. From the messages on Facebook, texts and emails and this Forum it has shown the impact he made on those that met him and even those that did not.
I first met him over forty years ago and our first experience of seeing Barrow at Holker Street was in the Football League. During the early days of going into Non-League we found that a there were a number of fans who lived in the London area. A group of us travelled all round the country to follow the team we loved. In some places we were the only Barrow fans to cheer on the team.
John was an important part of our group with his sense of humour and generosity. He became a firm friend and it was always good meet sometimes after leaving work in London and seeing him for drink before we went home.
John will be sadly missed by all those that knew him.

RIP John.
I shared many a moment with him, Dave and Bob back in the early eighties at places such as Dartford, Gravesend etc.
A lovely man.

Re: John Woods
All of us at the Trust were very sad to hear of John's passing yesterday.
John was a member of the Trust right from the very start and was a constant and generous supporter of all our activities.
John was hugely well-liked by all and will always in the away end by our side in spirit. He was, simply, a lovely man.
Here below the photograph, his friend Nigel Milligan pens a warm tribute.
In memoriam of our dear friend John Woods who has sadly passed on. The picture shows him resplendent in his Bluebell railway uniform the day ‘the gang’ descended down to Horsted Keynes in the summer of 2016. Simon Nichols mugs for the camera whilst John maintains his professional dignity despite us guys clowning around. John was a true gentleman and one of the kindest people I ever had the good fortune to meet. We met through our mutual love of Barrow AFC about 33 years ago, and John was instrumental in the ‘glue’ that tied us all together. His enthusiasm and encyclopaedic knowledge of the football was only matched by his dry sense of humour and love of real ales. He was always an absolute pleasure to be around and he will be sorely missed.
RIP John.

Re: John Woods
Known John or 'Woodsie' since I was a nipper. Totally good bloke and thoroughly decent to his core.

Re: John Woods
John's funeral was last Friday but obviously, and understandably in the present circumstances, none of us were able to attend.
Once football begins again we are planning to sponsor a game in John's memory and give him the send off that he deserves. I will post details when we get to a point when we are able to make arrangements. In the meantime please feel free to PM me if you would like to join us in celebrating John's life when we sponsor a match.

Re: John Woods
First time I met John was exactly 30 years ago, on the day of Barrow's FA Trophy match at Colne. At the time I had just moved to London, and this was my first of many outings with the National Supporters Club
As mentioned already in this thread, John will be remembered for his sense of humour and his in depth knowledge of football. He was also heavily involved with the National Supporters Club for many years, and during the 1990s he contributed numerous articles for the fanzine Give'em Beans.
Condolences to all of John's family and friends
