My guess would be that the virus has a minimum incubation period of less than a week (before you would become infectious), So if you only tested at the beginning of every week you could have contracted the virus before you play again if the next game is a week ahead even if you had previously tested negative.
I'm aware of that, but what makes a footballer so special, if key workers like teachers don't get such privileges then why should a footballer.
Football should be bottom of list of priorities
Nothing makes a footballer more special. But as has widely been reported Germanys death rate is comparatively low a fact which was put down to a significant investment in testing early. Roche is heavily Germany based and can produce testing kits in the millions. When we eventually get an antibody test Roche will be a main if not the main manufacturer. Within a few months Covid (antigen) testing kits will be like sweeties there'll be so many of them. As usual the Germans have got there first.

This is also about planning and distribution at which they are also very efficient. Its not being party political to say that by comparison our own performance in these areas to date has been less than impressive.

The irony is the government have actually started to properly ramp up testing this week (at least locally) but a lot of people have become very complacent this last week/10 days on the rules and have started going round to visit mates in the garden etc etc

Yes. A bit pithy!

But the conclusion seems to be that there is evidence (though not definitive) to suggest that exposure to large numbers of people at sporting events creates an additional risk of infection though how much of a risk seems less clear. This risk increases with the size of the crowd, the length of the event; how far the crowd have travelled to it and probably whether the event is indoors or outdoors.

So several Olympic sports would add up to the classic example of a Covid risk and I for one will not be on the plane to Japan even if is in 12 months time. So it sort of confirms what our current view might be about the future for watching football live: no away support, social distancing, improved hygiene, crowd limitations.

On who wants to be a millionaire the first question is so easy nobody ever gets it wrong.
So Jeremy Clarkson says to the contestant “in football, if a team finishes top of the league when the season ends, what do they get.” Is it
(a) promoted (b) relegated (c) re-elected (b) nothing
The contestant replies “it’s (a) promoted Jeremy, final answer.”
Clarkson says “yes, it’s the right answer.”
Hope the football authorities know this as well.

So the Times ran a story this morning to the effect that our Government ("this is the time of maximum risk chaps and we wont be easing lockdown anytime yet") has contacted the football "authorities" suggesting to them that it might be good if the Premier League could get back up and running again asap as a means of improving the national mood.

This was followed today by this on the BBC which indicates that the Premiership is now planning to be back in training by 18th May and to restart the season on 8th June. Behind closed doors and at "approved" stadia. Apparently Serie A and La Ligua are working to a similar timescale and the Bundesliga (perhaps even with spectators) will kick in earlier on 3rd June.

Wil be interesting to see if the EFL tries to follow suit. But a change of tone may be afoot.

Ian Dennis from the BBC (who has been covering this story intently)

The National League have written to clubs to invite them to share their views on the feasibility of continuing with the play-offs. A deadline of Friday has been set for clubs to bring forward ideas. A decision is expected next week.

Full story to what Stu was saying from Ian Dennis

Interesting note is that there isn’t going to be a vote and The National League are to make the final decision - possibly as early as next Tuesday

I think we’ll be going up one way or another. I don’t see our league being null & void anymore. That’s the vibe I’m getting anyway.

We will go up one way or another. To play when and where and in front of how many is a different consideration. Right around the world, with the cleverest brains on the planet working flat out, nearly 5 months in, no one really has a ******* clue what is what.
This is going to be a problem for a long time and we are in for the long haul. There are two major difficulties, the virus and the economy. As far as footy is concerned the virus will prevent people attending matches en masse everywhere for the foreseeable future. Simply, governments will not allow it as it is much too risky. Not a chance of 3500 at Holker St to watch a top of the table clash in League 2 for ages yet.The PL will be unrecognisable. Occasional games behind closed doors and streamed will be a very hollow substitute for the real thing.
The economy already is and will be perilous, globally. Footy may well have to go on the back burner for many who are involved currently and who have cash to spare. E.g already Emirates Airlines. Within a span of a few months, the travel, hospitality, entertainment, restaurant, and building industries have been practically annihilated worldwide. To say nothing of the effect on every sport. Sweden is not a model because the herd immunity argument can only work if it is proved that you can't catch the virus twice.
Im sorry to sound so pessimistic and I truly hope my predictions are wrong, but I'm not expecting to visit HS for a long long time yet, even in L2.

That’s the likely scenario. We go up but there’s no bumper home crowd at HS, no large away support from Carlisle or whoever.
Where’s the main income coming from? I suppose you could have a much reduced attendance and stream the game for the others. How many would pay for this service?
