Good morning WG. Now that's the sort of non-thread related comment that would get me into trouble!Wintergreen wrote: ↑Thu May 07, 2020 9:59 am Nearly 10 the clock and still no word from Suffolk Blue. I do hope he is alright.![]()

Re: Decisions being made
It's going to be interesting I think the Premier League will be forced to play with the likes of the German League preparing to play.
It was interesting to read that Aguerro at Manchester City was worried about playing.
It will be interesting to see how many Premier Players will actually refuse to play or go sick.
We really need the PM to be called off and then the rest of clubs positions can be decided on PPG.

“You know who” is correct. The National League are asking the FA about extending our season so play offs can played, madnessgoalie6789 wrote: ↑Wed May 06, 2020 10:08 pm

Re: Decisions being made
A few details from the National League’s playoff consultation:
65 of the 68 clubs responded.
There was strong support from clubs in all divisions to cancel the playoffs.
Most of the clubs that did vote in favour of continuing were the clubs who’d be involved in the playoffs. https://t.co/QF80mS3O8I

Re: Decisions being made
The position of the NL is now pretty clear. It will replicate what the EFL does. That's what their statement effectively said. Clearly nobody has much appetite for play-offs. However the EFL could still (in theory) have play-offs. So my reading is that the NL cannot rule anything out that the EFL might decide to do. Which at this point is practically anything. Hence it goes to the FA and says "we may need to extend the season to have play-offs. Can we do so?". Even when the overwhelming majority of NL clubs are opposed.
This is nuts of course. It makes some kind of sense only when you remove the notion that the NL are in any way in control of the situation either collectively or individually. And it allows all the clubs affected one way or another to continue shouting from the roof-tops with diametrically opposed views. These too are pretty much nothing but hot air. I'm glad to see that this has not been our approach.
Two other bits of news that might be of interest. Firstly Macclesfield have been deducted another 7 points for breaches of rules. This has triggered another 3 point deduction suspended from the last non payment of wages. They are now 3 points above Stevenage in 23rd with more investigations potentially pending. My gut tells me that the EFL would dearly like to have that particular problem removed.
Secondly, South Shields has put out a statement saying that it intends to take the FA and NPL to court to challenge its decision to void the the season from Step 3 downwards. Good luck to them.

If it’s clear to you can you get in touch with the National League because I think it’s far from clear to them

Well its as clear to me Adam as my borderline personality disorder is clear to my psychoanalyst.
Seriously I know this thread frequently ends up with a lot of tiresome speculation but we've reached a situation where we are not so much speculating about what the NL might or might not do but what they have actually done or not done.

Re: Decisions being made
So to sum up
Nothing is decided and wont be for a few weeks
The whole Football structure is a pyramid which relies on interaction (promotion and relegation) between the different organisations (PL - CH - EFL - NL - etc)
The FA have made a decisions for the lowest tiers of football to cancel it as allowing multiple different organisations at the those levels (and I assume there are dozens) to make individual decisions would be totally impossible and they are less likely to have been able to even contemplate playing on due to the size and set up of grounds.
Everyone else is really waiting to hear what the PL says about completing and more importantly promotion and relegation to/from PL - once they decide then every step below can make their decision based on that situation as to do anything unilaterally wouldn't work as they require the organisation above to agree with them on promotion/relegation.
Most clubs are more focused on survival then promotion or relegation
The clubs who are in promotion of relegation positions (or close to play off positions) are really the only ones who care
The PL decision will ultimately be based on the legal/*contractual situation with SKY/BT/Worldwide Media groups and also how UEFA allows teams into Europe next year from each league
The decision on when football and other sports can start will be made only when the Govt and its advisors say it is safe
When it is deemed safe it will also advise the 'how' - ie behind closed doors etc
The whole thing is a domino rally just waiting for one person to knock the first one down and then all the others fall into place in order.
So when Boris speaks on Sunday it may give a starting point for when things might get decided and move from there
In the meantime the speculation is just going to continue round and round as it fills a void for many people.
In even simpler terms - this will all be about money and how football protects itself from PL down. Everyone talking about it is doing it from a point of vested self interest (lets be honest if Barrow were mid table with no chance of promotion or being relegated this thread would not have got past page 5 so we are as guilty as everyone else)
It highlights perfectly that football (even to our level) is a business that includes some football matches and it is about keeping the 'football business' going rather than what is best in a health crisis or for whether playing matches behind closed doors is what really matters (is there any point in football if fans cannot watch it?)
Hopefully when everything gets sorted some sort of overall inquiry into the 'football business' will be done and they realise that the amount of money being chucked around needs to change and a proper system of financial tests put in place to ensure that clubs are more solvent and football (sport in general really) is played for the fans to watch not just to make or move money around the globe.
In the meantime tens of thousands of people have died and I assume their families couldn't give a toss who plays in the EFL /PL / Joe Bloggs Div 5 next year.

Re: Decisions being made
I understand the prospect of a separate decision on playoffs for the National League & the National League North/South has been dropped.
The National League now intend to make a decision that applies to both steps. https://t.co/8p4PS7XYSV

Re: Decisions being made
Dave's Daily Despatch. What? Chairman Dave doesn't want play-offs despite the fact that he previously said there should be; having previously said there shouldn't be? He wants to do what? Void the season ...again? I'm totally gobsmacked.whitty1969 wrote: ↑Thu May 07, 2020 3:21 pm Save your skin Fylde

Two things have got to happen I think before it becomes clearer where we are going in the NL and neither involve the NL. Firstly the Premier League will meet to discuss Project Restart and second the EFL will meet again to discuss its options. Both things will happen I think by the middle of next week.
Till then before anybody else says it, everything is pure speculation. Until then another 4 editions of the Blackpool Evening Gazette, Lytham Gazette and Kirkham & Wesham Advertiser left for further tales from Mill Farm.
I know many of the contributors are already aware of this site, but any who aren't and wonder why Chairman Dave is often seen with a certain degree of interest if not fascination I heartily re-recommend the following website
