Agreed

Obviously the way it should have been done but the NL wants to make obsolutely certain that its resolution is passed and if it had been done the correct way the bottom 3 teams in NL would have voted against it whereas that is reduced to 1 with only 2 teams coming up to the NL. Desperately unfair on the NLN and NLS teams IMO especially as I can't see any way it wouldn't have passed even with the change to allow 4 teams to be promoted!

I can see why they did what they did:
What I’d do is from a league point of view add playoffs for N & S
But add a proviso to it that IF the government come back with full clarification that says National League North & South are not clear to have their play offs then they don’t go ahead and only the champions go up.
If they allow 2nd place to be promoted then you’ll be opening up a can of worms - Harrogate will say they too should be allowed to be promoted and have the National League play offs scrapped.

Atleast this way you give the North and South sides the chance and if the government come back and decline it then the National League are in the clear

Why was this not all discussed at their meetings
Yesterday, guess this delays the voting still further.. What a [SwearFilter] saga

Still a little unclear on the current position.

What came out of the FA/NL presentation was apparently a joint proposal which the NL members were asked to vote on by Monday. Any suggested amendment to that proposal would itself require a procedure to enable it to be discussed, allowed and considered (as happened with the EFL framework where clubs were only allowed to vote when a number of amendments had been submitted and agreed). There doesn't appear to have been any such procedure despite a lot of noise coming from the Leagues below regarding amendments.

So unless I'm mistaken NL clubs would have been able to vote today on the proposal put to them yesterday which on a quick show of hands could then be approved by said NL clubs themselves without any consideration of any alternative amended proposal or even potentially any of the votes that could be cast by the Leagues below.

So I must be wrong somewhere. Where have I gone wrong?

Ollie Bayliss said this morning that it was up to the NL board to decide whether to accept the York amendment. I've asked him whether he knows if it was accepted or whether the original proposal ahs gone out to vote. So far, no response. But I see that the local MP for Havant has got involved, writing to the Dept for Culture, Media and Sport for clarity on the Step 2 play-offs and, if not allowed, requesting the NL board to accept the York proposal.
You couldn't make it up.
It all comes 'round again.

Where you’ve gone wrong is by trying to put some sort of daily rationale to the ongoing saga.
"To achieve anything and to get to the Football League, we have to expect to win every game. I've got to get everyone believing that we can, and I will work hard to embed that mentality into the players, the town, the board and whoever else” Ian Evatt.

Nothing has been decided yet
Havant have also issued the same amendment to the National League board as well

So they all get together yesterday and agree a proposal. Subsequent to which, York come to their senses and think "We're going to be stitched here", so they get on the "virtual" blower to the NL and the NL says OK York/Havant. You make some great points. We never considered those objections did we? We'll have a think before we send out the voting slips and perhaps we'll slip in an amendment and send a memo out to the clubs to let them know we've changed the proposal?

Someone is pulling our collective plonker. For starters, even if the NL actually had the balls to do that which they dont, there would be a complete meltdown at the FA. So this may be the gossip topic of the day, but I do not believe one syllable of it.

I see that Brian Barwick, former NWEM journo, is chair of the National League.
It all comes 'round again.

Just read the York Statement, posted an hour ago. They make out that there will be a vote on Monday and their amendment will be voted on at that meeting.

Is this an acceptance by the National League board? Does this mean that voting slips won’t now be sent out?
