Don't want him missing for the Home match with Sunderland in the Carabao CupSuffolk Blue wrote: ↑Sat Jun 13, 2020 8:06 pmIf we are talking about League 2 and if next season were a normal season, one of his missed games would I think be the Carabao cup.
Wont it be nice to get back to talking about the squad?
Re: Decisions being made
Further delay possible because of need to frame resolution including the play-offs. May need two votes and a PPG backup included because if the play-offs can't be completed it isn't reasonable to just day 'Tough, We tried.'Moribund wrote: ↑Sat Jun 13, 2020 5:44 pmYou say 'cock up' - it seems the FA just straight up lied about receiving government instructions to scrap play-offs.Suffolk Blue wrote: ↑Sat Jun 13, 2020 4:34 pm
Dont see why.
So the upshot is now that this was an FA co*k up. Therefore we cannot lay this at the door of the NL. They clearly did what they were told and didn't think to question whether what they were being told was bollox. Not guilty by way of being stupid.
National League sent the letter. They can't run away from that.

Re: Decisions being made
Let’s see who the EFL chairmen were - Stevenage by any chance? Tranmere?
This hasn’t got any legs and is from a story fabricated by some of the NlN clubs on an attempt to get the National clubs on board. For no relegation to happen from the EFL, 13 championship clubs would have to vote for it and in the process risk the chance that the premiership could then have grounds to refuse relegation. A massive can of worms would be opened and I can’t see the championship clubs risking that.

Re: Decisions being made
My understanding of the so called "threat" from the EFL was that if play-offs did not take place in the NLN/NLS then the EFL might decide to refuse entry to the SECOND team in the NL; i.e. the winner of the NL play-off. So no threat to our position or the winners of the NLN/NLS.bluebird90 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 13, 2020 10:52 pmLet’s see who the EFL chairmen were - Stevenage by any chance? Tranmere?

Irrespective of where this came from, I can imagine that Rick Parry was by no means happy with what the NL did on Thursday though by now he might have worked out that the stitch up probably was engineered elsewhere. As far as I can tell, nobody has yet owned up to being the source of the so called "unattributed" communication that found its way to all the Step 2 play-off clubs before Thursdays meeting.
Whether it was the FA or not, it is the NL's reputation that is being dragged through the dirt by all of this. Its not the immediate threat to promotions or relegations that they probably need to worry about most. However the NL has for some time now been trying build a case for the EFL considering a change to three up, three down from L2. I suspect that this is what is really being put at risk.

There is no one in the squad to replace him .Suffolk Blue wrote: ↑Sat Jun 13, 2020 8:06 pmIf we are talking about League 2 and if next season were a normal season, one of his missed games would I think be the Carabao cup.

If we get promoted we will need another striker .

Re: Decisions being made
Ironically, another twist in the tale is the fact that the chairman of the National League is Brian Barwick, who became a journalist for the North Western Evening Mail just after Barrow were voted out of the league in 1972.
I'm sure that he would welcome a return for Barrow rejoining the English Football League.

Re: Decisions being made
As someone who does know him personally, the one thing I can tell you is that he won't stop while there's still hope of saving his club's place in the NL and although at times some of it comes across as nothing but bluster there's a lot more to it than that and I believe his allegiance with the Ebbsfleet owner makes them collectively stronger than both of them acting individually but you're right he definitely hates losing and certainly it isn't something that he.s used to. I still think the way out that satisfies everybody is that the NL run with two extra clubs next year and decide how to readjust once they see how many clubs they lose to the pandemic.Suffolk Blue wrote: ↑Sat Jun 13, 2020 5:32 pmHave never discounted him in terms of his business instincts or his ability to think creatively Adam. Even says that there will be twists and turns and it is still democratic which is what he asked for
But even his friends would probably tell you that he can be a very difficult man to like. Doesn't like losing and doesn't deal with compromise or contradiction very well.

Re: Decisions being made
Wouldn’t that suggestion open up a can of worms with EFL though? Seeing as that is what they wanted to do in having no relegations but keep the promotions? If you want to promote then you have to relegate - it’s harsh on the clubs at the other end of the spectrum but like with Tranmere in League 1 it’s just one of those things sadlyNORTHERNSOUL wrote: ↑Sun Jun 14, 2020 5:51 amAs someone who does know him personally, the one thing I can tell you is that he won't stop while there's still hope of saving his club's place in the NL and although at times some of it comes across as nothing but bluster there's a lot more to it than that and I believe his allegiance with the Ebbsfleet owner makes them collectively stronger than both of them acting individually but you're right he definitely hates losing and certainly it isn't something that he.s used to. Agree. With 8/9 games left the league table doesn't lie.Adam29 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 14, 2020 6:39 amWouldn’t that suggestion open up a can of worms with EFL though? Teams are at the bottom for a reason. We need to stay in line with the EFL. 3 down. 4 up
Re: Decisions being made
Following this thread is like the 3 year Br***t saga condensed into 3 months. "Barnier said this, but Macron is reported to want that, while Merkel is believed to be pushing for something else....." etc. Haythornthwaite is the Irish prime Minister trying to torpedo everything and Suffolk Blue is our Laura Kuenssberg, interpreting every move. Fortunately, we don't have a Theresa May or Boris running the show.

Re: Decisions being made
The BBC gets it wrong...or do they?
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53020825
"National League clubs are to vote on ending the season via points per game.
Under the plan Barrow would be promoted to League Two as champions while only bottom side Chorley would be relegated.
The proposals would allow play-offs for a second promotion place to the English Football League.
However, a plan to cancel play-offs in National League North and South has been removed from the proposals amid uncertainty over what the government classes as elite sport.
The initial proposal was that only the champions would go up because only the National League is thought to fall under the classification of elite sport.
That would mean Wealdstone winning National League South while Kings Lynn would leapfrog York City to take the North title...."
So, according to this, only one club would be relegated from the National, but 4 would be promoted into it!
And still the National Board, who appear to have been caught out lying to their own member clubs threaten them with Null And Void.
"Clubs will now have to decide whether to support the motion, with the National League indicating that if it does not go through they will next consider declaring the leagues null and void."
As has been suggested in the posts above, if you do not relegate the same number of clubs that are promoted, you open yourselves to criticism.
I think that the current National Board need to be replaced, but obviously only after the news we have all been waiting for has come about.
A shambles and shameful is the impression that they have given to everyone in my view.

The league need to decide whether they want to put the play offs back on the table: (which judging by the outcry and the fury then I would be amazed if they didn’t)
If they do put them back on then the likelihood would be that the relegation from the national league would also change from 1 down to the bottom 3 down to balance the leagues out
