Bless him. Perhaps if he stood on his head and read them upside down he could be pretty accurate.Arvo wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 5:40 amTalking of "getting it wrong", scroll along to 8:08...

The infamous Alan Alger probably still thinks we will go down.

Re: Prediction for the season
Interesting article by Adam Virgo (BT Sports Pundit) in todays NLP regarding our chances.
We are truly in "on the radar" mode now but he's a reluctant admirer and keen to point out all the reasons why we probably wont win the NL this season the main ones being (1) Our manager will probably be poached by some floundering League 1 club that could offer IE a good salary, a budget and at least a guaranteed prospect of EFL football next season and (2) Our squad is way too thin and lose Quigley or Kay or Rooney and as Private Fraser once said "we're doomed". Although in my view however the player we probably could afford to lose least at the moment is Platt. IMHO his return to Blackburn in January might pose the greatest risk of all to any promotion hopes we have.
Mr Virgo is clearly in the Solihull camp in terms of who he thinks might prevail though Yeovil and Bromley are seen as the other contenders. There is of course a bit of truth in what he says lest we all get overly excited with our current position - which I dont actually detect that many of us are. When you look at a club from the distance that Adam does however, the tendency to generalise becomes a little too easy. I suggested a few weeks ago that in media terms we would shortly transition from the status of "Under the radar" to a status that you might describe as "Its all about Ian Evatt". Its clear that Adam is already there. Whilst IE is of course the pivot around which all of these good things are happening, pundits need to understand that the Board, Players, Staff and Supporters are all part of the stuff that is making this club work as well as it currently is. Its also what greases the wheels of the club and adds real momentum, making things that are quite difficult or problematic seem easy. This ultimately translates onto the pitch and its something that pundits and punters rarely spot.
He's right to suggest that the period from Solihull away to Bromley at home will tell us how seriously we should be taken and you get the impression that his thought is that we will come a cropper. Truth is we will need some luck with injuries, suspensions and commitment even if our performance levels can be maintained. But I'm hopeful that we may be a little more resilient than some people out there think.

Re: Prediction for the season
I'm a lot more worried by his first point than his second! I just hope that Ian Evatt has decided he will stay for the rest of the season whatever offers he gets but the reality of football is that when managers get better offers they almost always take them. Re the second point, I agree with you that Platt being recalled by Blackburn would be a huge blow and we could also do with keeping White for the rest of the season. IMO, we are blessed with 6 good midfield in Hardcastle, Taylor, Rooney, White and Dyson. Barry and Kay are excellent wing backs and Brown could do a job at wing back. Granite could do a job instead of Hird or Brough but Platt is irreplaceable. I also don't think we have any strikers good enough to replace Quigley or Angus although Dyson could probably do a decent job. However, Ian Evatt has shown that if necessary he can go out and get good loan players and, I'm sure, if we lost our current loan players of there was an injury crisis he would do just that.Suffolk Blue wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2019 12:57 am Interesting article by Adam Virgo (BT Sports Pundit) in todays NLP regarding our chances.

Re: Prediction for the season
Agreed on Platt (and White) would be a huge boost if we can agree a deal to keep them here till the end of the season, really could be the difference

Re: Prediction for the season
Tbf, he’s tipped 5 of the last 7 winners....and Wrexham were a decent shout in the summer seeing as they’d added JJ Hooper to a team that got into the play offs. It’s easy with hindsight, I suppose.
Anyway, nobody’s won anything yet. Long way to go.

Re: Prediction for the season
Will the bookies be paying off for those who had a flutter on Barrow AFC winning the League? Some pretty poor predictions on where we would finish.

Re: Prediction for the season
We had a promising finish to the season before. You could see things coming together. Plus the words of the gaffer- absolutely focused and determined. Low and behold- the perfect storm.
