GOING UP
Re: GOING UP
Heart felt congratulations from a Mansfield town fan, pleased to see you back in league football after your 48 year journey through the wilderness.
Re: GOING UP
All the things associated with being in the FL are beginning to dawn on me, no more qualifying rounds for the FA Cup, no more FA Trophy (as much as I loved that competition), League Cup etc.
Popular side since '03.
Re: GOING UP
It was interesting to hear Paul Hornby talk about all the things that the club will be required to do as a member of the EFL. For example, I think he said they would have to appoint a Chief Executive, then there were things about stewarding and Elf and Safety requirements. I can't remember everything, but it seemed like a lot of new things to take on.
Re: GOING UP
Indeed, and I have every confidence that Paul and his great team will leave no stone unturned.Jim wrote: ↑Fri Jun 19, 2020 10:21 amIt was interesting to hear Paul Hornby talk about all the things that the club will be required to do as a member of the EFL. Re: GOING UP
You certainly have a lot of good things to look forward to in becoming members of the Football League again but let me warn you, don’t expect to see an improvement in the standard of Referees and Linesmen. In fact, League 2 may be worse than what you are used to.
There are a lot of young Referees who are ‘career Refs’, dreaming of being the next Michael Oliver. They have been Refereeing all through their youth when they should have been playing. They know the laws of football to the letter but having not played much at junior level and not at all at adult level, they know little about the nuances of the game and how to handle players and the situations that arise in the heat of a hotly-contested League 2 game.
As for the Lino’s, there are some young kids just starting but their are a lot of older ones who are failed Referees who are only running the line because they didn’t make it in the middle, so they don’t quite understand the role of the Lino. They are often not up with play and constantly miss things that happen right under their nose.
Be prepared to be frustrated with the Officials.

Re: GOING UP
Need two sets of full size nets as well, an extra set out on the pitch in pre match warm ups. Little things perhaps, but everything going up a notch or two.Jim wrote: ↑Fri Jun 19, 2020 10:21 amIt was interesting to hear Paul Hornby talk about all the things that the club will be required to do as a member of the EFL. Re: GOING UP
Winning the National League was not a stroll in the park. It was hard. Despite what some may believe, we are stepping up another notch here. We are going to face some very talented and well-prepared opponents.
It all comes 'round again.

I have withdrawal symptoms. No one has posted in the 'Decisions being made' thread for over 24 hours.

Re: GOING UP
Hello Barra,
not sure if you've had anyone from our end on to welcome you back to the Football League so I thought I'd take the opportunity. A massive WELL DONE! Couldn't have predicted it personally at the start of the season, but that's the beauty of football, sometimes the unexpected happens! It's great to welcome another Northern team to L2. A couple of tasty games in prospect, that's for sure. Just hope fans are allowed back in! No doubt you would sell out for your visit to us (1700 ish), but please don't decimate the town like some Viking Horde LOL. I've been around since the early seventies and was at most of our games since then and I think we probably hold the upper hand against you on the pitch over the years. Whether that will continue now is anyone's guess.
All the best
